When photographer Skyler Quinn first fixed her lens on gorgeous cowboy Trace Wolf Track, she liked what she saw but didn't give it much thought. Until everywhere she went - the rodeo, the Double D Wild Horse Sanctuary - there he was, and the heat between them built to the boiling point.

As a widow struggling with debts and loyalties from a former life, Skyler needed to stay focused, especially if she wanted to achieve her dream of becoming a mother. Was Trace a fatal distraction, a mere summer fling? Or did this younger man, so deep, so passionate, hold the key to a future that would make all her dreams come true?

First off that cover is a photoshopped nightmare. I hate when they do that. That guy was probably walking, nowhere near a horse, by looks of it.

This was a nice easy read, though the banter, at times, was hard to follow and I had to go back and reread passages to figure out who was talking when since all the he said she said was missing. I don't mind that left out unless it gets in the way of the story and, for me, it did.

The only other thing that bugged me, like, eye roll bugged were the characters names. They were just too cliché for me. She already had us in a mindset of a country song with the title so a popular country music singer's name stuck out for the hero, and her name, well, whatever.

The story started off quickly, settled into its pace and kept going easily. It was a quick and painless read, a nice easy story except for the bit of tension over a lie which I would have considered unforgivable, but the characters didn't. I thought it was actually honorable how it wasn't treated like something completely blown out of the water between them in the story line, but rather a stumble they took care of in their paces. It was believable, even though I, personally, would not have handled it that way.

The technical aspects of the story were believable, as a photographer there were certain words that irked me, but I'm a professional and this woman was, at best, an amateur with no training looking to up her hobby game, so the terms were acceptable.

SORT OF SPOILER BELOW:

I did not like that at the end he seemed to be the only one giving everything up for her. But I don't like people who give up anything. I like them to find a way to come together without one of them giving up. Maybe in the end, after the final scene he doesn't end up giving in, but at the point we read the end, he does.

Overall I enjoyed the book. I might not read it again, but I never wanted to throw it across the room, it held my attention later into the night than I should have let it, I only rolled my eyes twice (once for each name) and there was no WTFckry.

A good story.

4 Stars ~ This is book #5 in Ms. Eagle's Wild Horse Sanctuary series. While this book works as a stand-alone, I think readers would appreciate the stories if they are read as a series.

In this story, the hero is Trace, the rodeo bareback rider son of Logan from the previous book. It opens with the heroine, Skylar taking photos of blue jeans sitting on the top rail of the rodeo pen, and when the best pair jumps off, she becomes entranced with the new views of the cowboy who filled those jeans. And when the cowboy in her view finder catches up with her, and convinces her to help him celebrate his 30th birthday, it's the beginning of something rather special.

Skylar is a 37 year old widow whose husband of 15 years had been 18 years her senior. She'd gladly became the woman he wanted, and helped to raise his son. And when he suffered a stroke, she became his caregiver. It's been a year since his death, and Skylar's step-son is eager to see her happy and pushes her to start dating. Skylar's doing her best to keep the ranch afloat and to achieve her dreams. She's good with horses, so she enters in Sally Drexler's wild horse competition in the hopes of gaining some creds to build a horse training business. In the meantime, she uses her photographic eye to boost the bank account.

Trace has a dream too. He wants that champion buckle and this year is his year. He's winning and earning well, and looking to keep moving on down the road all the way to the National Finals. Once he has that win, he'll be ready to plan ahead. Buying and training horses is his other talent, and seems to fit in with Skylar. Their connection has thrown him for a loop, that and her plan to have a baby with or without him.

Ms. Eagle is a master of the banter; witty, fun, and sometimes deeply emotional. This is the fifth book of hers that I've read in a row, and I've come to truly appreciate her talent. Her characters come to life with real issues to overcome. This world around the Drexlers and the Wolf Tracks is one well crafted and easily to become invested in. I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series.

This book started out really strong for me. I was enjoying the setting and both main characters. But halfway through the heroine drops a bomb on the hero that really turned me off. I would eventually like to finish the book, but I'm setting it aside for now. Hopefully a little distance will allow me to get past what the heroine did and the hero's reaction to it.

I liked this book because it was about a woman who had always lived up to her responsibilities in
life. However, she was not totally fulfilled as a woman. When she became widowed. she had the
chance of beginning a new life with a younger man. He was able to fulfill her need for a happier
life and feel the joy of fulfillment as a woman.

This is not very exciting. The main character takes pictures and wants a baby. She meets Trace at a rodeo and falls in love with him

Skylar Quinn was a 37 year old widow who had been married 15 years to a man 18 years older than she. He had controlled her life and her future, she had raisesd his son, but she slowly discovered that she had compromised her dreams and her need for a deeply satisfying love relationship for companionship and financial security. Her deepest hope was to become a mother--single motherhood was just fine--but while raising her husband's son was a good experience, she wanted a baby of her own. Hooking up with a gorgeous cowboy seemed like a good idea, even if he didn't know her plan.

Trace Wolf Track was a deep and complicated man who was well on his way to a rodeo championship and was also a master horse trainer--something Skylar was also involved in and something she was hoping would eventually produce some income for her. They met as she was also exercising her other love--photography--and as they kept "bumping" into one another, decided to spend Trace's birthday together--his 30th birthday. He was virile and manly, but he was committed to "moving on down the road." Even though they were thrown together longer than either of them planned due to a rodeo injury, it just didn't seem like their lives were headed in the same direction. When Skylar finally confessed that she had pushed their first sexual encounter to be without a condom because she was hoping to get pregnant, somehow--even though it made Trace pull away from her for a while--they still stayed together, even to the point where Skylar continued to travel with him to several rodeo events. Skylar's need for stability eventually put an end to that kind of experience for them--they still wanted to "see" each other.

This novel was not a simple one to read. It is filled with clues and nuances that keep the reader guessing about what is really going on inside these two people. That they were attracted to one another was never in doubt. But a future together? That question was not easily answered. Could they resolve their differing hopes for the future? That was another issue that appeared not to have an easy solution, either. Their conversations were a delight--it was really sparring at its best. Both were intelligent and thinking people, and both used words brilliantly to keep one another on edge. The author demonstrated a wonderful capacity to write sparkling and fascinating repartee.

I have to admit that there were times I wondered if I would ever figure out these two. Skylar's stepson was also a part of the "mix" that caused some confusion and difficulty between Skylar and Trace. That he had been adoped by his stepfather: a council member of the Lakota Sioux--made a tremendous effect on Trace's way of thinking and his philosophy of living and relating to people. It gave this story an added dimension. So getting all the pieces of the story to come together took time and, frankly, took to nearly the end of the story. It takes a very good author to tease out the tale to that extent and Ms Eagle did it well. It is a very romantic tale about very real people with insecurities and dreams and worries and disappointments--people who had felt the harsh realities of living but who were insisting on finding something better for themselves. That they were also willing to open their hearts to something new may not have been true initially, but their attraction and growing connection to one another put them squarely in the middle of having to make that decision. That kind of tension makes for a good story.

So I recommend this novel to those who want a story that stretches the mind and engages the heart, who like to experience the kind of tension that resonates throughout this story and who are willing to "stay the course" to the very end. That's what it will take to get the sense of what this story entails.

I give it a rating of 4 out of 5.

What happens when a woman guided by a sense of responsibility enters into a relationship with a rodeo cowboy who makes his living “going down the road”? That’s the dilemma facing photographer Skyler Quinn when she meets sexy bronc rider Trace Wolf Track.

Skyler, an expert horsewoman, has been widowed a year, but for a much longer time she was care giver to an older husband as his health began to fail. Attending the rodeo gives her the opportunity to see her stepson perform in his calf-roping event (on a horse trained by Trace), but also to get some equestrian photos to jump start her fledgling photojournalist career.

Here at the Wyoming rodeo, she meets Trace and decides to tip the apple cart and for once do something for herself. The intriguing and attractive younger man is just the fun-loving companion to take her away from the dull existence of debts and former life loyalties. What begins as a friendly night out, develops into a temporary commitment to share the training of a mustang she selected for a worthy charity auction--Mustang sally's Makeover Challenge. Though their passion runs deep, cautious Skyler wants stability and the chance to have a child of her own, but she finds Trace unready to make the investment in a more permanent liaison. Even though the two seemed well-suited, they were opposites in their career paths and I wondered if either could move enough to the center or if the chemistry between them could unlock a door to a long-term future together. The sex scenes between Skyler and Trace are sensual, germane to the plot and very well done.

Ms. Eagle’s vibrant dialogue and brilliant use of prose and inner thought (the "overreaching sky", "The rush that came with the ride was still good, but the road between rushes was getting longer") sucked me into the story instantly. In addition to creating two extremely likable characters, the witty repartee between Skyler and Trace kept me in nonstop smiles. Both protagonists are engaging and show realistic character development as they journey from carefree to committed, even though it seems as if this won’t happen. Not to worry, Eagle’s consummate skill shines in this enjoyable read that plumbs the human psyche.

I love cowboys and horses so the summary of this book really interested me despite the pregnancy storyline which I was quite hesitant about. For nearly the whole book I was anxious in regards to that conflict, which is one I don't care for, and how it would be handed. I think Eagle did a great job addressing it then moving on. It wasn't drawn out and painful like many authors would have made it. I think that made the book a lot smoother and enjoyable read for me.

I liked Skyler. She was fun, smart, interesting... And I liked Trace even more. Definitely loved the cocky, sexy cowboy image he had going on. Their relationship just didn't work for me though in the first half of the book. Passionate moments felt cold and other than great one liners, I never felt them connect in conversation. However, I did love their instant attraction. Sure the build up can be fun but it often contains some angst or denial, neither of which I find enjoyable. I really liked that there was no pretense or nonsense between Skyler and Trace in regards to attraction. They liked each other so they let it happen. The second half of the book was a whole different rodeo; it was a wild ride and I loved every second of it.

The love scenes can go either way. If you're looking for something explicit and detailed, you won't enjoy the sex in this book. If you're looking for something a little more subtle then you'll really enjoy what Eagle's got in store for you.

Something about this book didn't feel modern, it felt more like something from the mid-eighties. I think it was a combination of the author's narrative language and the dialogue given to the characters. Some lines had a current witty and cleverness but much of it had an older feel. This wasn't a problem for me, but it was a surprise that took some adjusting to.

Lastly, many people aren't going to get the rodeo or equine talk and it isn't really explained. It's not necessary knowledge for the story but it will be frustrating to encounter that type of language not knowing what's going on considering both characters' lives revolve around horses.

This novella was an interesting twist on the May / December romance angle. For one thing, Skyler wasn’t exactly a December—she was more of a July. She didn’t set out to catch a younger man, but he had a way of popping up wherever she went, their chemistry worked, and Trace found lots to appreciate in a slightly older woman.

There were touching moments between them when I found myself smiling and nodding in agreement—especially when he tells her age doesn’t matter. There were also a few rough spots that felt a little uncomfortable. For instance, I liked Skyler, but there were times when her doubts overshadowed the rest of the story, and the intensity of her desire for a family had me watching her biological clock tick away. When she and Trace argued, it lacked the force of a good emotional blow-up. But there’s something to be said for new love and making up, because the love scenes were great.

Overall, I liked the book and the characters and I would plunk down my money to buy it. After all, not everyone fights in the same way, and what may be simply an argument for me could be a catastrophe in someone else’s eyes. And yes, I liked the ending. That made it all worthwhile.

Kathleen Eagle transforms the title of a Dixie Chicks’ song into a wonderful albeit somewhat lightweight romantic novel featuring the likeable characters of Skyler and Trace. Skyler is an older woman with a past, a late husband, debts, and a love of horses. Trace is the younger rodeo cowboy with miles of cocky swagger who catches her eye from behind the camera lens. (Skyler is freelance photographer hoping to make some extra money.) Trace and Skyler hit it off immediately. Their chemistry literally jumps off the page as much as their coy dialogue--some phrases are so ripe with double meaning you’ll giggle. Ms. Eagle certainly has a way words, and developing likeble characters. This story is all about two adults taking a chance, and going in a direction they usually avoid. It’s a fun read without as much of the middle-act heartbreak that some romance novels include. If you love a good romance novel, handsome cowboys, and ladies who take a chance on love, “Cowboy, Take Mme Away” is the book for you!

Kathleen Eagle combines likeable characters, clever dialogue, and her usual excellent writing to give readers the story of Skyler Quinn, a widow with her share of baggage, and rodeo cowboy Trace Wolf Track. Skyler is looking for subjects for her photographs when she meets Trace and discovers he’s far more that physical perfection in a pair of jeans and an eight-second ride on a horse determined to throw him. The attraction between the two is immediate and powerful, and they share a love of horses. But Skyler has another agenda, and Trace is wary of commitment.

Trace is one of the adopted sons of Logan Wolf Track, hero of Once a Father, who makes a brief appearance in CTMA, as does Sally Drexler Beaudry, heroine of Cool Hand Hank. Longtime Eagle readers may miss the complexity and layered characterizations of the author’s single-title books such as What the Heart Knows and You Never Can Tell, but Cowboy, Take Me Away is a worthy, readable addition to a strong Silhouette Special Edition series.

A contemporary Western romance of an older woman/younger cowboy--seven years difference--and two people who had experienced love on a very limited basis. She had been married 15 years to a man 18 years older than she, had raised his son, and yet had been disappointed on a number of levels. Skylar Quinn now wanted to begin her life on her own terms and Trace Wolf Track looked very good to her. Trace, on the other hand, stood to win a rodeo championship and while Skylar had gotten well and truly under her skin, she wanted a life that seemed at odds with his -- he still wanted to "move on down the road." This novel is about two very tentative people, full of clues and nuances that leave the reader free to put the picture together--not all at once, but the author keeps on tantalizing the reader to move forward to the next clue. There is hidden heartbreak and some deeply buried needs, betrayal of sorts and not always living in honesty--both with each other and themselves. Yet it is a curiously satisfying read, one that takes a bit of guts to get through but worth it in the end.

Another good easy-going read. I liked the characters and the story line. This is something I wouldn't mind reading again but more for passing time, something to read, or something for comfort and relaxing. I didn't get pulled in but this definitely kept me interesting. I loved the little bantering that was between them, it was fun and friendly. I got a little confused reading parts of this book, I don't know why, but I think some of it just went over my head cuz I just didn't get it. I think that's something that most people would obviously get but it just passed me by and I was left wondering 'What just happened?' quite a few times. Maybe I'm just not in the loop or had a few blonde moments. ;) Anyhow, I liked this book. There were plenty of emotions, fun dialog (what I understood), good characters, some warm scenes, great side characters (I would definitely like to read more on them), some mini-self-discovery and, of course, a happy ending that left me with a little smile. Enjoy

As short romances go, the characters in this one have more depth than many. Unfortunately, like many of them, the couple falls in lust quickly, and goes to bed shortly thereafter. Still, there is some depth to Sykler's character--she a former local pageant queen turned nanny turned stepmother turned widow who is setting goals and working toward them. Trace has some pain in his past, and suffers from physical injury in the book but he doesn't want a nurse or a mom. Guess how it ends? An overworked phrase describes the book best "It is what it is" and if a quick predictable happy ending is what you want, I think you'll enjoy Cowboy, Take Me Away (Harlequin Special Edition)

Another good cowboy story

Skyler Quinn loves photography. She also wants to become a master trainer of rodeo horses and a mother. Trace Wolf Track is a saddle bronc rider and a master trainer. They she meet at a rodeo in Sheridan, Wyoming.

Skyler is a widow with unkempt promises, unpaid debt and undisclosed loose ends left to her by her deceased husband, Tony. Tony's son, Michael will have to deal with the debts if he wants to keep the cattle operation going. Skyler wants to put things in order and get on with her life. Will it include Trace? Watch their relationship grow. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

Skylar is a a widow who is trying to get a handle on her life. She is a photographer and horse trainer. Trace Wolf Track is a horse trainer and bareback rider. They meet at a rodeo when she is taking pictures. They are attracted and spend some time together getting to know each other. She wants a baby; he wants to keep on going down the road. He doesn't want to leave a baby behind. Any baby of his will have him as a day to day father. They need to work out their differences on their way to true love.

Eagle is always thoughtful and delightful, but it seems to me that the category length constrains her. I'm enjoying the series of books she's writing now, with glimpses into the worlds of wild mustangs, disability issues (not in this book) and more.

But. The banter in this book almost overcame the story and I ended up hungry for more. She's still way better than most of what's out there.

This was an okay read. I think I found the jargon and the clever, witty language a turn-off because there was just so much of it. They hardly seemed to speak in what I would think of as normal English. It was all double talk, in terms that are completely inaccessible for me as an Englishwoman. However, the premise of the story was interesting.

It was an ok read. Predictable in every way and not anything new but it was good. Quick and easy read. I thought the story could have had more details and been a little more in depth with the characters backgrounds and such including the stepson but again. Enjoyed it.
