Dr. Rosenberg writes about how the body holds the pain of the unmet needs of our Primary Scenario (childhood) in the form of muscle tension, described as armoring or blocks. One goal of Integrative Body Psychotherapy is to explore the unmet needs of the Primary Scenario and provide reparenting. Another goal being the discovery and release of muscle tension within the body. I found this book enlightening. Through reading it, I was able to discover my Negative Introject, and begin to replace it with better messaging. I'm addressing and releasing the body armoring I've been doing unconsciously since I was a kid. Reading that emotion and breath are connected was a helpful reminder to breathe deeply with the chest and stomach when negative feelings creep into the present. A highly recommended read, especially if your parents didn't really care for child rearing.
