RESCUED BY THE DREAMY DOCTOR is a Harlequin Medical Romance story by author Amy Andrews.
A committed, passionate, community mental health nurse Callie Duncan is called out to save a mentally ill patient about to throw herself off a bridge. She manages to talk the patient away from the bridge but at what cost to her? It was on the day of her brother’s eighth anniversary of throwing himself off from that same bridge.
Already emotionally fraught with the memories of her brother’s death, she encounters drop dead gorgeous and world renowned psychologist Sebastian Walker on that day. Later that night she comes to know that Sebastian would be working with them. But unable to control her raw emotions of the day, she goes home with Seb.
Though Callie is a mature woman and knows what she wants, the next day she decides not to see Seb personally as they work together.
But as the two starts spending more and more time together, their professional relationship begins to get more and more personal.
Seb, described through Callie’s eyes brought him alive for me, and likewise Callie described through Seb’s vivid viewpoint.
Both have had tumultuous childhoods, and the one thing they both are adamant on, about not bringing a baby in the world, the author throws the wrench at them and lo and behold, Callie gets pregnant!
Written with plenty of heart, flair and sizzle, Amy Andrews has written a first-rate romantic read that will make readers smile as well as shed a tear. Readers are sure to love deliciously brooding Seb and Callie is a fantastic heroine whose superficial exterior belies a generous spirit and a very big heart.
For me, personally, I learnt a lot about mental health from this story. Big thanks to author Amy Andrews to tackle the mental health issue in this book.
A beguiling and stirring Medical Romance that is sure to tug at readers’ heartstring and leave them with a great big smile on their face at the unusual ending. I finished it in one sitting as I was that eager to get to Seb and Callie's happy ending. I recommend it to all Medical Romance lovers and give it 5 stars!
Independent Callie Duncan is a nurse with the Jambalyn Community Centre to provide assistance to clients suffering from a range of mental illnesses and disorders. She meets Sebastian Walker on bridge when he’s called in to help talk a jumper down – the “jumper” will only talk to Callie. Mistaking him for a cop, Callie later discovers that Sebastian is a renowned psychologist (specializing in PTSD) and that she’ll be working with him over the next year. After one hot night together, Callie and Sebastian try to assume a more professional relationship, but several months later they are seeing one another regularly despite the fact that neither one of them wants to call it a relationship. Their passionate arrangement seems to be working well for them until Callie gets pregnant. Neither Callie or Sebastian wants children, but now that they’re faced with the very real possibility of a child each has to reevaluate the future of their relationship.
This rather formulaic romance reinforces a lot of stereotypes. Callie is described as this really strong, Amazonian woman who enjoys her independence and doesn’t want marriage or kids – how refreshing! But she doesn’t get to stay that way. By the end of this book she’s conformed to everyone’s expectations – engaged, expecting, and ready to embrace life in the suburbs. It’s what she always wanted; she just never allowed herself the luxury. It’s disappointing that she can’t find happiness some other way. OR that is has to come at the expense of her freedom (though, I’m sure she doesn’t see it that way).

3.5 stars rated up. The H/h came across as strong individuals who together make a really powerful couple and balance each other. I like the way H acknowledges how whether they want to or not they are now in a relationship. I also liked the the scene where H declares and then realizes he is in love. The author really makes the characters and the events feel real. The H/h are truly like-able and the way their characters grow as the chapters progress is beautifully written. Truly amazed that Harlequin supported the publication of a book where the H/h are in mid to late 30s and have maturity and fulfill responsibilities that come with their jobs and aren't magically super rich and frivolous with it.
Adored this journey. Realistic, emotional, and as always, laced with that Anderson wit to make any situation better, and the heat is always welcome. The playing field between the sexes was leveled in this, which I was totally on board with. Seb and Callie, each with their own ideals and concerns, each with their strengths, and complimenting each other so well, no matter the situation. Both working in the same field for now, is how they met. Coming from disfunctional and challenged families, they each wanted to do good for others. Life has a mind of it's own sometimes as they find out! I think every parent reading this, will be remembering their first experience of a child's entrance in this world. A happy sigh here!
I love Amy Andrews. She writes so many smart and mature romances. Its all about a real relationship with some real and heavy issues in life. Sebastián and Callie are adults with a lot of chemistry. What started as a fling slowly changed to a relationship. The handled their issues in a mature way. No angst or rom-com here. Just a good down to earth feel good romance.
Prognosis Temporary by Amy Andrews is about psychologist Sebastian Walker and community mental health worker Callie Duncan. Neither is inclined to anything but some shared physical release but one hot night opens the door just enough for more.
Amy Andrews’s story is emotional and hot, as Callie and Sebastian navigate their way to not just a decent working relationship but an unexpectedly vital personal one.
Previously published as Rescued By the Dreamy Doc in 2011.
I enjoyed reading a book with a nurse as a main character as I am a nurse also and getting a taste of the psych field. I did have trouble with some of the spellings of non American words but figured them out! Just different spellings. I also wish we would have had an extended ending knowing how everything turned out! But I am looking forward to the other books now!
For a short book, this one packed a big emotional wallop. Both Callie and Seb have long histories of dealing with mental illness, and that bonds them in a special way. I loved their caring hearts and openness with one another.
4.5 stars. I adore this author's medical romances as they are so interesting and so real. Lots of romance and steamy scenes as well and the last couple of chapters were excellent.
Really enjoyed this first book I have read by Amy Andrews. I loved the story of mental health issues and the compassion of the characters. It had plenty of trials and tribulations, but also love and compassion. Great story and characters....I look forward to reading more by Amy.
Sebastian (Seb) Walker and Callie Duncan meet on a bridge. She’s a mental health nursing professional, and he has just started on a one-year stint as a police negotiator and a psychologist. There is an instant attraction, but once they discover that they are to be coworkers, they decide to keep their relationship strictly professional. Then they head off together to a conference, and it gets harder to stay professional… Both of these protagonists have baggage. There is some mental illness in each of their families of origin, and they are both adamant that they don’t want to risk passing it along to a child. So they are ok with the sex, but neither one wants to call it a relationship.
There is a lot of good in this story. Both Callie and Seb have a solid growth arc within the story. Different experiences create opportunities for self-reflection and help them make difficult choices as needed to meet the challenges they face. There isn’t heavy tension, but the pace stays constant. This is an enjoyable read that can create increased awareness and empathy for the challenges faced by people living with different mental illnesses.
