When Chief Inspector Gil Mayo investigates the death of Marion Dove, whose body had been found floating in a canal near her home, he uncovers devastating secrets from the past that have profound repercussions for Dove's family
Marjorie Eccles has written several romantic and crime novels, which have been published both in the UK and in the US. Many of her book shave been translated and serialised around the world. She has one grown up son and now lives in Hertfordshire
A serviceable mystery. Marion Dove, rich owner of the Dove Glass Works, is found murdered. The police investigate the various members of her family and the personnel at the glass factory. But when the dead woman's solicitor reveals that she had recently made plans to change her will, and when it becomes clear that the family members are lying about their whereabouts on the critical night, things get very complicated.
I liked the atmosphere of the book, especially of the old canal and the isolated house where the victim lived.
This one is a rather staid mystery that fulfilled my craving for some fun "junk food reading" on a sleepy afternoon. Marion Dove, a widow in late middle age, is found strangled, her body tossed into the canal in front of her house. Any one of her family members could have done it--they have plenty of motives between them. It wasn't exceptional, but I would definitely recommend this book for die-hard mystery fans such as myself.
