When new books come in for review, they go up on ‘the review shelf.’ I leave them there until I have written the review, photographed the book, and shared it with all of you. After that, they go in to ‘circulation’ in the house.

I’ve wanted to share this book for a while, but I haven’t been ready to write the review — it’s sometimes that way when you really like a book.

I am a long-time fan of Sugar Snap Studio (the illustrator of the Mrs. Peanuckle books we adore as well as ABC What Can She BE? that we read all. the. time). This book has the same signature bold graphic style, and it’s such a special book.

Letters to My Darling Daughter would make for an incredible first birthday book — especially if you fill out the last page where there’s space to write your own personal words. From there, it could be read together for years and years!

This book is a series of letters, each with distinct and important advice for the recipient, the Darling Daughter. This book is encouraging, joyful, and meaningful and such a nicely packaged way to share heart words with the daughters in your life — and I am so grateful to have it so share with mine.

This book captures the concepts I so want to impart to my daughters — like “enjoy the small things in life”, and “play is just as important as hard work.” I always try to show them examples of speaking up… even when it’s hard. Even when no one else is. And so I particularly love the letter that reads: “Speak up. You have a voice. Your opinion matters. It’s good to feel strongly about something and stand up for what you believe.” YES!

Each letter is written clearly with a young audience in mind — and in that beautiful simplicity conveys big ideas — and is accompanied by a signature Sugar Snap Studio illustration that aids in understanding. I so appreciate the diverse representation throughout.

What a beautiful book to share with someone you love.

Thank you to Quarto Kids for this review copy.

Letters to My Darling Daughter is a book about exactly what it sounds like. Through colorful illustrations and timeless, albeit generic, words of wisdom, the book is a sentimental reminder to daughters that they are unique, brave, and, above all, deeply loved by a parent.

This isn’t a how-to book. There isn’t much in the way of expounding on how to apply some of the timeless truths within to one’s own life. Instead, the book serves as a thoughtful, gentle reminder for little girls of what matters most. At the end of the book, there is a page for a parent to write their own letter of wisdom to their daughter, which I thought was a nice touch.

As a dad to five girls, I appreciated the book's sentiment, but its usability with more than one child is limited. Minus buying multiple copies of the book, I would have liked it if there were a few more blank spaces for writing at the end.

The book's design, readability, and text complexity best suit a younger audience (4-6-year-olds), but an older child might still appreciate it from a warm, fuzzy memory standpoint.

Overall, it is a sweet, sentimental ode to daughters that might make a nice gift and keepsake. Still, it would be more effective had it been written for slightly older children at an age to understand better and appreciate the sage advice contained within.

Letters to my Darling Daughter from Sugar Snap Studio is a beautifully written and illustrated book for young girls. This book has a dust jacket and is quite large in size measuring roughly 10 inches square and is 32 pages long. This book is aimed at children ages three to six--but I think it would still be of interest up to age 8. Actually, the message is timeless and one someone might look back on if they grew up with this book.

I like that the illustrations are bright and cheery. They are also inclusive in that they show people of color and of differing abilities. I think ALL of the messages in this book are good ones. I think they are messages that all girls need to hear and take to heart.

On the last page of the book is a page for you to write your own message to your daughter. I can see where that could make this a special treasured keepsake for years to come.

I wish the company would also make a book like this for boys as I have a boy. I also would like to see one that is aimed at children without coming from a parent as some kids don't have parents that would do this but rather an Aunt/Grandparent/Special friend--that could still be a wonderful tool and keepsake.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through the Amazon Vine Program. All opinions within this review are my own.

This picture book features typical encouragements for young girls, along with sweet and colorful illustrations. The letters are written in a vague, generic way that will apply to almost every reader, and there is a space at the end for parents to write their own, more specific encouragements for their particular child. There is nothing special about this book to elevate it above similar sentimental gift books, but it's nice.

The messages are all pretty typical, encouraging girls to believe in themselves, follow their dreams, and care for the earth. I think it is far more effective to teach children life lessons through memorable stories, instead of just reading canned sentiments like this, and the book will likely appeal to adults more than children. Nonetheless, this is a good fit for parents who want to give their daughter a sentimental gift book for a special occasion.

I received a free copy from the publisher through Amazon Vine in exchange for an honest review.

This book offers sweet nuggets of wisdom, with each page revealing a letter pulled from an envelope. The messages cover a range of topics, from being kind to others to embracing and loving one's body. While some of the content may feel somewhat cliché, the words carry significant weight for young women who need to hear them. However, I wish there had been more emphasis on the value of hard work and finding purpose. With the rise of books focusing on self-esteem and the idea that everyone is special, it's essential to pair these themes with the journey of pursuing something meaningful. Without this balance, as we've seen, the message can unintentionally foster narcissism. That said, the letters themselves are powerful. The illustrations, while simple, have a clipart-like quality that complements the book's straightforward style.

As it says, a love letter from a mother to a daughter, reminding the child to be environmentally thoughtful, kind, polite, and to cherish the chance of fun, friendship and celebrating her uniqueness. It's in a decent place between collection of bland platitudes and something more distinctive, such as the Sunscreen song, and the visuals add to the obviousness of it all without going too far. There's also a final page for a personalised lesson to be passed down, as if the generic notelets and passages so far aren't relateable enough. I've seen these things done a lot worse – three and a half stars.

I loved this book! It is a book I am going to need to own for each of my daughters. It perfectly says what I mean to say but couldn't find the words. It also has a space to add your own "letter" if they missed something. It was a perfect reminder for myself as well. What a great book.

This book was so beautiful. From the illustration to the message. I have been wanting to write letters like this to my daughter and leave little notes. With her getting into her preteens it makes me want to write to her even more.

This is a darling idea. I wish there could have been a page with a mom and a dad together. I only saw a page with two dads holding hands, and who holds hands when they are using a shovel anyway. It seems forced and looks awkward (holding hands while you shovel).

I loved the illustrations in the book, they are really great and lovely to look at. They bring the book to life, they are beautiful and look so natural and are really in keeping with the theme of the book.

As a mum this book was just wonderful, it says everything I say to my six year old daughter and it is one that she can keep and read at any point to know how much she is cared about and loved too. The book has a lot of positivity and it is really encouraging as well.

It is 5 stars from me for this one, I really loved it as a mum and would have loved to receive a copy myself when I was younger too as it makes a great keepsake – very highly recommended!

This book was everything I would have loved to hear growing up. And I would recommend it to anybody with a daughter in their life.

This book is a reminder to just live fully and stand in your truth. That there’s value in you & so much more.

I loved the imagery & the colors. The way photos were vibrant and each page had a different story to tell.

And the final page, it sealed the deal.

I volunteered to ready an ARC of this book through NetGalley.
