In Good Hands

Rate this book

Amber Smithson just had mind-blowing sex with a totally hot stranger. In an elevator! Ditching her high-powered medical career to become a homeopathic doctor sure didn't prep her for this kind of hands-on therapy.

Corporate lawyer Roger Martell leads a high-pressure lifestyle that's given him money and power…and, unfortunately, high blood pressure. His solution? Ask the deliciously soothing doc to help him out with a few alternative treatments…and plenty more steam-up-the-yoga-studio sex!

The results leave them both healthy and very, very happy.

Still, a few nights of great sex won't bring down Roger's blood pressure indefinitely. Amber's in his bed now, but that doesn't mean she'll stay there.

Unless, of course, Roger can talk Amber into making those house calls a permanent thing….

When Amber Smithson left her prestigious medical job to become a homeopathic doctor, she never thought one of her patients would be as sexy as businessman Rodger Martell. But when a daring bet leads to a steamy hook-up between the two in an elevator, Amber quickly jumps at the chance to be Rodger's doctor.

Between high blood pressure and a severely stressful job, Rodger's health is hanging on by a thread. His physician orders him to take a two week vacation, and Rodger is not too thrilled with the idea -- until he meets Amber. The doc is not only smokin' hot, but she also says she can help fix Rodger's condition if he agrees to spend the next two weeks with her. Sounds like a no-brainer! While the couple work on lowering Rodger's blood pressure, the chemistry between them sky-rockets. However, can Rodger and Amber's attraction to each other withstand the major differences between them?

Let me start off by saying that this book begins with a bang! Amber and Rodger are thrown together almost immediately and their chemistry is apparent from the get-go. Since Blaze titles are not very long, the fact that the plot cuts to the chase and quickly dives into the action is much appreciated.

While it's easy to write Rodger off as a typical suit-and-tie businessman, he overcomes the stereotypes with his sensitive nature and, ahem, sexual prowess. Don't let his compassion fool you, though; he definitely uses his dominating Alpha male side when necessary. As for Amber, she's an alternative medicine doctor bent on saving the world one raw food meal at a time. I really enjoyed Amber's character because she is so multi-faceted. She seamlessly transforms herself from hippie to power suit to doctor and back again, all without breaking a sweat. The conflict between the couple is as realistic as the bedroom scenes (which don't always take place in the bedroom), making both equally enjoyable to read.

In Good Hands is a roll-in-the-hay good time that any romance reader will definitely want to get their hands on!

Amber Smithson is a doctor who has been researching alternative medical treatments (raw food diets, energy treatments, and homeopathic remedies) since she resigned from her high pressure, high powered job at prestigious Mandolin hospital. She meets Robert Martell – a corporate lawyer with high blood pressure – when she takes a bet to prove that he isn’t gay. This matter is quickly decided when the two are trapped in an elevator together for a couple of hours (longer than they need to rip off each other’s clothes and get it on). After getting to know one another a little better, Martell asks Amber for help in treating his high blood pressure. Because he’s at risk for a stroke, she immediately makes him take a 2-week vacation, change his diet, and practice meditation and yoga to give his mind and body a break – their wild, passionate love life is just a healthy side-effect.

Meanwhile, Amber is going through her own personal crisis – she can’t afford to fund her hiatus from her chosen field for much longer and she’s considering returning to Mandolin (her former boss who had a narrow view of alternative treatments is retiring). Unfortunately, that would mean a return to her own former high pressure, highly stressful life. It would also effectively end her relationship with Robert. When Robert realizes that Amber is planning to run, he confronts her and makes her face her fears.

Kathy Lyons’ characters are well-developed, playful, and smart and In Good Hands is funny and charming. I don’t usually care for romances, but this was pretty decent. I loved the author’s sense of humor and found myself quite caught up in the story.

Terrible Romance
1 star

Corporate Executive, Roger Martell, needs a treatment for his sky high blood pressure since no modern medicine seems to be working. A chance encounter in an elevator with tempting Amber Smithson may be just the thing he's been looking for.

Since Dr Amber was fired for practising alternative medicine, she's made it her mission to help those in need. And Roger is definitely in need. But once he gets her into bed will she be able to leave?

This is the follow on book from Taking Care of Business - Roger was the hero's best friend from that book. Having said that both books stand completely alone so you don't need to have read that one before reading this one.

Unfortunately, while I really enjoyed Taking Care of Business, this book was completely the opposite. Amber wasn't just unsympathetic but also completely unlikeable. Added to that she was preachy, stereotypical and annoying - not the ideal heroine. Roger was fine although a little blah all round. While there were plenty of sex scenes, without any connection or chemistry they all fell a little flat. In the end I couldn't help but feel that Roger deserved someone a whole lot nicer than Amber.

On top of this I felt the story was weak and at times bordered on ridiculous. It was a real struggle not only to finish this book but also to even remember what the book was about once I'd put it down.

For a Blaze this was a real disappointment. I like to be swept away by the romance, lifestyles, characters and sex and this book didn't deliver on any. 1 star.

love love loved this book! I loved the alternative med angle and how the author dealt with the real issues of med docs not wanting to accept its legitimacy! This book was very steamy too! GREAT sex scenes and original too! It was fun and sometimes silly but over all just great! Going to check out this author's other works. This was my first book by her! Highly recommend to any romance reader but especially anyone who likes, in real life, homeopathic remedies, raw foods, alternative medicine, etc.

Imagine finding ourself in a elevator having sex with a totally hot and complete ...stranger ! Every girls fantasy. But it might not be that much fun afterwards to handle ...that is unless the characters were created by the very talented Kathy Lyons.

From the cover alone the book oozed sex and sensuality. I loved the character of Rodger, smart and sexy, one of those that you as reader cannot help but to think man this guy is awesome !

And of course a happy ending like only Kathy Lyons can do ! A delightfully sinful read !
