Vladimir Ivanovich Dal (Russian: Владимир Иванович Даль) was one of the greatest Russian language lexicographers. He was a founding member of the Russian Geographical Society. He knew at least six languages including Turkic and is considered to be one of the early Turkologists. During his lifetime he compiled and documented the oral history of the region that was later published in Russian and became part of modern folklore.
This is still lovely but there are a lot of memorable scenes missing from the animation and it's not the best translation I've seen. Obviously it's always a challenge to adapt something like this but I felt like a lot more care was taken with Hedgehog in the Fog.
This is not the original story I read, but is the basic storyline. The story is that the fox lures the hare into having dinner with him, but when the hare shows up, the hare finds out that it is actually he who is to be eaten for dinner. This story can be used to teach children that not everything is what it seems, and that not everyone has your best interest.
