The book discusses the types of respect that each person must earn for themselves--by keeping promises, being honest in what they say and do, and being polite and respectful to others. Boys and girls learn that people who are different deserve just as much respect as close friends. Coloured illustrations help the reader in relating to the story. I have read the Hindi language translation of this book.
This book is good, but very simple. It is definitely meant for the youngest of readers. Books like these are important to teach important values like treating others with kindness, how to process emotions, and even how to combat new situations. Young minds can learn a lot when they hear how other people, even fictional people, went through a situation and grew at the end of it.
This book talks about how having respect for everyone is important. It can encourage students to have respect for everyone that they know. This book can be used to encourage discussions and research into differences that people have that may cause people to not respect someone else. It can also be used to have students write about how positive interactions can impact someone's day.
This book demonstrates how happy workplaces are possible in any industry. Everyone Matters teaches students about having respect and treating everyone equally.
This children’s book teaches students the importance of respect and the meaning of respect. It teaches children how to treat everyone with equality. The author stresses the importance if you treat others with respect and as your equal, you will see that you are more similar to you than different. Furthermore, this book emphasizes that although people may look different from one another, they share emotions. There is also an emphasis on bullying and how it is important that people do not tease or victimize others who are different from them because everyone deserves to be respected. It teaches the reader that respect for someone is different from being afraid of someone. It teaches the reader to not be afraid of the bully, but to treat the bully as their equal.
There are many ways an educators can incorporate this children’s book into their curriculum. This book focuses on respect for others and that everyone is equal and should be treated the same. This is relevant to the “Bullying and Respect For Others” theme of the text set. This book shows the students that bullying is disrespectful and no one deserves to be disrespected, regardless of they way they look, dress, talk, or behave. Furthermore, this book teaches students, especially the bully’s victim, that everyone deserves respect, even the bully. This will minimize further bulling and will help spread respect for others inside and outside of the classroom. This book can also be used to teach self-respect. Self-respect is important because if a person does not respect himself or herself, they will have difficulties in respecting others.
While this has some excellent definitions of respect and some good insights on bullying for the kids, the real value of this book is on the page at the back with the tips and ideas for how to use this book with your kids or in your classroom. Maybe the information isn't anything really new, but it's well put together, and the discussion questions throughout make for good stopping points to talk to your children.
This book was included in my social justice text set as a very basic introduction to the concept of respect and the importance of diversity. Its generalized approach to the topics makes it very accessible for students to understand the major themes at the beginning of the curriculum in order to make explaining the more subtle points easier.
