Parents no longer have time to read long books about the theories of parenting. What they want are quick pieces of advice geared to their busy lifestyles and immediate needs. Dr. Jenn comes to the rescue with this fun yet useful book that offers 26 short chapters on everything from pets to being a sports parent to healthy relationships to food to keeping your marriage as much fun as it was before the children arrived.
Designed to be browsed or picked up from time to time for specific help, the book provides insight and guidance for any parent but focuses on those with toddlers to third grade. Upbeat, lively, and humorous, this book answers parents’ most frequent questions about how to raise a healthy, well-adjusted child. Because every chapter is only a few pages long and can stand on its own, busy parents can read what they need when they need it.
Excellent- read cover to cover or specific chapters ! It’s great especially the sections on digital devices and the concerns /problems that come up with it in modern era parenting.
Pretty good. Worth reading. I liked the short chapters focusing on a wide range of different topics. I picked this up looking for some ideas about how to teach kids about finances and ended up reading the entire thing (well, all that applied to me--I didn't read the chapters about twins, boys or only child). I did not agree with the author 100% (I did agree 90%) of the time but I appreciated the different perspective she gave. I appreciated the extra resources referenced in the book too.
I try to read one or two books like this a year, just to keep up with my development as a parent and see what experts are saying about child raising practices. This is an easy to read, very digestible book that pulls in theories and ideas from other, more specific and academic, books. While not every chapter will apply to everyone, I thought it was worth checking out if you're a parent.
Good stuff in a short format. Easy to read. Some good reminders, especially in the A for Apple chapter. How I wish I could back off and let my kids decide to just either eat or not without saying a word! I'm working on it...
Excellent, non-judgmental information. Provided in an easy-to-read format (you can read bits at a time) but isn't simplistic or dumbed down. Lots to think about.
