Diana Hamilton was born in a English town. Wanting to be a country child, her imagination came into play at an early age, transforming a neighbor’s tree into a forest, a hole in a stone wall into a gingerbread house, a gas puddle into a fairyland, complete with mountains, lakes and flower meadows. She loathed housework but made to do her share, to lessen the boredom, she told herself stories, in a very loud voice, featuring princesses and flower gardens, discovering that telling herself stories was almost as good as reading them in a book.
She loathed school with an equal passion and got through it by pretending to be somewhere else. Even so she left grammar school with respectable grades... And was sent to art college when she wanted to study to be a vet. This was nowhere as bad as it had seemed because it was there, at age 18, she first saw Peter. He had returned from two years’ active service in Korea to resume his studies, and Diana immediately fell in love with him.
Gaining a degree in advertising copywriting, Diana worked as a copywriter and married Peter. They moved to a remote part of Wales after the birth of their second child, Paul, when their daughter, Rebecca, was three years old. There, Diana enjoyed pony trekking and walking in the mountains; and her third child, Andrew, was born. Itchy feet brought them back to England to the beautiful county of Shropshire four years later and they have been there ever since, gradually restoring the rambling Elizabethan manor that Diana gave her heart to on sight, creating a garden out of a wilderness of nettles, brambles and old bedsteads.
In the mid-'70s Diana took up her pen again to write stories to read to her three children at bedtime. These were never offered for publication but the bug had bitten. Over the next 10 years she combined writing over 30 novels, published by Robert Hale of London, with bringing up her children, gardening and cooking for the restaurant of a local inn—a wonderful excuse to avoid the dreaded housework! In 1987 Diana realized her dearest ambition—the publication of her first Mills & Boon romance, Song in a Strange Land. She had come home. And that feeling persists to this day as, around 30 Harlequin/Mills & Boon romantic novels late, she was still in love with the genre.
Sadly, Diana Hamilton passed away on May 3, 2009, at her home in Shropshire, surrounded by her family. She will be sorely missed by her fans and everyone at Mills & Boon/Harlequin
A very brief summary of Diana Hamilton's - The Christmas Child
Plain h marries handsome and debonair H in MOC after his wildly attractive fiancee is caught in a bad position.
The h gets a makeover and he falls in lurve but she doesn't see it and thinks he doesn't want kids.
When she winds up preggers she blurts out the news of her pregnancy along with a divorce request and dashes from the house without listening to the H's response.
When she goes back the next day to talk to the H, his ex fiancee is there telling her to leave.
She moves to the country and has the baby and the H comes to make up with her.
This one was a fairly sweet story and the h's actions were believable given her character and self esteem issues. The H turns out to be a decent guy too, just unable to express himself.
I liked this one overall and thought it was a nice day at the HP office.

The hero was jilted by an OW, so now he is off women. He decides to have a marriage of convenience with the mousey heroine because she is sweet and undemanding. Heroine has had a crush on the hero forever but her glamorous mother always told her she was plain, so she's never worked on her look - only her academic career. When the hero proposes she is insulted/thrilled/hopeful - but make him work for it.
The heroine's friend convinces her to have a makeover which freaks out the hero. He's starting to have carnal thoughts about his "mouse." There's a lot of back and forth and hurt feelings as these friends turn to lovers.
The hero has always said he's never wanted children. When the heroine discovers she's pregnant at the same time the OW who jilted him turns up again - she assumes the hero will want a divorce. She tells the hero she's pregnant and then flees. When she comes to her senses she goes back to the house, only to have the OW open the door. Heroine doesn't stick around.
She rents a cottage in the country and has the baby right before Christmas. The hero (who has known her location for six months) shows up at the hospital to take her home. After two days together and some Christmas prep - the truth comes out. Hero has fallen in love with her but respected her need to be away from him. He doesn't know she loved him or that the OW was making mischief. Declarations all around. HEA
This one was cute because the hero was so clueless that he could go the rest of his life without sex. Heroine was stupid to leave because it was obvious the OW was playing games. Hopefully their daughter will have a bit more emotional intelligence.

Heroine was obsessed with the OW. It was pathetic.
I loved her in the beginning and felt pain for her unrequited love but then she became whiny. Her leaving hero was justifiable under circumstances but her avoiding all contacts with him, that was cruel. The more I loved hero in last chapter, the more I hated heroine. I also had problems with this author’s writing style.
good tropes like marriage of convenience and family friends but i hated the mcs so much. mattie is the DEFINITION of tstl doormat heroine and james was so ??? idk ??? useless ??? i have no idea how or when he developed feelings for her bc he was genuinely just not that into her.
It was a decent novel and I was impressed with most of it. I adored how brave the heroine became but at the same time, she was really down on herself a lot, her mother did a number on her, heartless bitch!
Okay I hated his ex Fiona and I hated the part where he was thinking she was 'inventive' in bed while he was asking the heroine to marry him. I almost have up but I went on and it was a little angsty, I cried at the scene where she walks out, and I hated the hero at times. So why four stars? Because it really ended up good. There was a makeover, there was passion (fade to black), angst and a baby. I really ended up loving it
The heroine had loved him since she was 14 and he was a playboy. He gets engaged to the birch and there was a very public break up. He comes to visit, her Father is his partner, and he feels very comfortable with her so he proposes a marriage in name only, his nickname for her is 'Mouse', yuk, and she agrees. He takes off and her friend gives her a makeover. He is stunned and turned on. He is such a jerk. They marry, he doesn't like how provocative she is, he runs off, comes back they have sex and she gets pregnant. He doesn't want kids, the evil OW is back, she runs away and has the baby on her own. He picks her up and I can't reveal any more.
The epilogue is good and I got an aaah feeling after it. It was good and safe except for the disgusting flashback.

Mattie has loved James for so long. His engagement to Fiona ended harshly. He goes to the family who have been there for him. He ends up asking Mattie to marry him. That it would only be for convenience sake. But lines are blurred. Can they make it work. And what about Fiona? Is she still in the picture? Diana Hamilton's books are great for rereading.
A very sweet story. Mattie has loved James for as long as she can remember. But knowing that she was grumpy and unattractive, she didn’t stand a chance with him.
Then his fiancée left him and he proposed a MOC with Mattie. All was fine until she got a makeover and for the very first time James saw how truly beautiful she really was.
Their marriage became real and Mattie became pregnant. Still insecure about James’ feelings for her , knowing that he does not want children, and believing he still loved his ex-fiancée, Mattie walked out of their marriage, leaving the field open to the ex.
Poor Mattie’s low self esteem caused her more pain than necessary. The OW was annoying and James was an idiot to allow Mattie to walk away without explanations.
I liked James’ type of groveling! Piss me off and but me a cottage in apology too, James! :) The ending was sweet and perfect.
I didn't like it. The characters were not great, their interactions were so formal and businesslike, plus he was so boring that it was hard to see what she found attractive about him. But she was kind of depressing with all her negative thoughts about herself.
Heroine was one of the weakest I've read about in awhile. She was in love with him for years, thought about him all the time and married him thinking he was in love with someone else. She leaves him for 6 months because the other woman leads her to believe they reconciled and while believing he cheated on her, admits to herself she would take him back if he asked her to come back. All her thoughts for majority of book were of either him or of how she wasn't good/pretty enough. Always thinking he wished to be with the ex and comparing herself the the ex.
Hero was not at all attracted to the heroine until he realized she had a figure, even referring to her as mouse. He thought about his ex fiancées "inventiveness in bed" while trying to convince heroine to marry him.
He proposed a sexless marriage and that he wouldn't cheat on her. However he was only celibate for a few weeks at that time and was coming off a bad breakup (because of the ex fiancee only marrying for his money and he overheard). He started lusting after heroine when he realized she was attractive, but still didn't want to sleep with her until he realized some other guy one day would want her and he'd lose a wife.
It didn't feel like he wanted her for her or thought of her as special. It felt like he hadn't had sex in weeks and then his libido came back. He even offered to divorce her if she didn't want to sleep with him, he wasn't determined to be with HER, he didn't have overwhelming feelings to be with her specifically, he just wanted to have sex again after months of celibacy.
The last few chapters were horrible, the inclusion of his ex fiancee, all that she told heroine and heroine believing it. Then her leaving for 6 months and hero not going after his pregnant wife. It was especially bad how he reacted to the baby and refusing to bond with her and not even looking at her until heroine and him reconciled.
There was never a POV from him after the pregnancy was revealed to him so his thoughts and feelings for the baby were unclear. How did he come around to the idea of being ok with kids after being so adamant that he didn't want them? Did he only want to be a part of his child's life if heroine stayed married to him? P.

Gosh....this was a really rough read. At least for me. I totally respect anyone who liked this book, and respect the author for her published work.
But woah, I didn't care at all for this book. Just.....wow. Mattie is one of the most weepy, weak, emotional, helpless heroines I have read in a long time, if not ever. The hero James, he wasn't that special at all! He was blah and weirdly rude at times. And she just seemed to flail around in the book taking whatever breadcrumbs of affection he gave her. It was just really hard to read. This is a spoiler free review by the way.
I got this book from a thrift store and think I will actively avoid reading any books from this author.
Maybe this book was a product of the times? It just blew my mind how a female character could be written this spineless and irritating. This doesn't mean Mattie is worse than James. They are both very irritating. But a good portion of the book as another reviewer pointed out is her internal dialogue. And no one wants to read over 180 pages worth of a woman totally doubting herself at every turn and refusing to accept respect from others and simply communicate. I understand her character is suffering from childhood neglect in the form of her mom. But gosh, it didn't work as a good read.
Not bad, but the heroine jumps to some wild conclusions about the hero. Honey, he is right there just ask, why are you acting nuts. The beginning 'lets get married' makes not a lot of sense, but I liked her make over freaking the hero out completely. Thats what you get sucker. Hero was very nice, accommodating and straight forward with the heroine, she assumes a lot and it made an ass outta her big time. Eh, read if you need something quick.
Better than three stars except the pacing was uneven and this dragged badly for almost a third. H could have avoided all the trouble if he’d told h that he had dumped the OW instead of letting h believe OW had dumped him because he didn’t measure up to her lofty standards.
Si l'histoire est bien sûr de temps en temps ou limite de la caricature, il faut reconnaître que les personnages sont bien décrits, respectables et attachants. Le titre du livre manque visiblement de punch. Et il est déloyal face au contenu de celui-ci.
This was a well written book with many turns. Some were expected but some were not. I would highly recommended this for anyone to read that like romance books.
I really did not expect to enjoy this as much as I did since the beginning was s-l-o-w. Hung in and was pleasantly surprised. The h's self esteem and feminity was essentially destroyed by her mother and her father really did little to boost her sense of self worth. It seemed like most people considered her an likeable academian with poor basic skills and someone to turn to when you needed something. Fortunately she had a best friend who pulled, pushed and kidnapped her into a shopping trip after she had accepted a MOC proposal from the H. She became a woman before his eyes and his world spun...and he fled.
She misunderstood most of his statements and his ability to communicate clearly needed a lot of work. The OW almost separated them but fortunately, each had learned some hard lessons and the HEA was earned.
Ketemu lagi sama Hero yang ga terlalu membangkitkan pesonanya.
Tapiiii....
3,5 of 5
Sebenernya ceritanya bagus, cuma narasinya mendominasi banget, jadi kurang disitunya, sama gaya nulisnya kurang bisa bikin aku bawa santay Wkwk ini jenis pembaca yg pilih2, (balik ke selera yess)
