Wolf Harem #2

Spencer's Secret

Rate this book
Just as Spencer, Ryder, and Luc begin to adapt to their new lives together, the local Alpha gives them the option to join the pack or move out. Rather than deal with werewolf politics, they decide to head out and find a home elsewhere.

Along the way they encounter Dean, a hitchhiker hoping to thumb a ride to a new life. The chance encounter leads to much more between the stranger and Ryder. When Spencer and Luc walk in on them in a compromising position, Spencer fears he's lost the first man he's ever loved.

But Spencer has a secret. Will Luc stay with him once he discovers the truth or will he end up alone in his new home?

Before I write anything about this book...
THE CLIFFIE is plain evil! It's not a cliffhanger, it's a CLIFFHANGER. Big fat cliffhanger!

On to the review.

The story of Spencer, Ryder and Lucas continues. This book is also a very good read.
I like the idea of wolf harem and it's developing very nicely so far. I also notice Joyee Flynn has a soft spot for threesomes and group scenes =)

At the beginning it looked almost as if the relationship between Spencer, Ryder and Lucas wouldn't work out. It actually did. But with the appearance of Dean I was a little sceptical. Still I simply couldn't stop reading until the last page.

Towards the end the events started to happen real fast. And since it's series the end of this book is open. All I can say - its too abruptly cut! I really liked how things were going with now four guys, but the very last scene left not just too many questions, I was nonplussed. I have never ever encountered such a huge cliffhanger before.

I really hope that in the next book Dean will not end up losing a limb again. I wouldn't like him or any of the guys losing any body parts at all. That would be a major dissapointment.

I liked this one as well thought I had a little problem with Ryder but let's start with the beginning.

The first conflict of the guys about Luc feeling like a third leg was believable, and I see it happening in real life menages where a third come into a established relationship and it was well handled, all the stuff about the wolf packs and so was also well planned and I loved how all the boys had different opinions and how talking they reach a common ground were everyone was happy, then they met Dean, and Ryder cheats.

This was the beginning of the fall of Ryder from my good graces, his reason for cheating was stupid, really, and a quick romp in the shower doesn't wrap it up for me, I mean a kiss I could have forgive, flirting, a caress, that would have been enough to move the story, but he was riding Sean's dick like the happiest cowboy in all Texas, hence the resolution came short to me.

The "Secret" was a little overblown, Ryder was too drama-queen about it, I mean, ok, you learned your partner is more rich than you thought but instead of talking to him and asking why he didn't tell you, you go all crazy like if you learned he had another wife and kids.

The main conflict once Sean regrows his leg about Spencer feeling all guilty was a little overblown as well.

typical joyee flynn serial romance. nothing fantastic, nothing so bad it can't be finished. what is typical joyee flynn? imagine a shorter harlequin romance but with no t&a (see, i was going to write no surprise pregnancies, but... yeah.).

out of sheer laziness, i will be using this as my template for all books by :
joyee flynn
sunny day
lynn hagen
stormy glenn
scarlett hyacinth
carol lynne
gabrielle evans

unless otherwise noted. i'd apologize, but i'm not sorry. i figure it's about as much time as they put into their books. dammit! well, i made it all the way to the end being rather moderate in my assessment. that's a win

This second volume of the Wolf Harem series, in many ways, is even more fun to read than the first. Not only does it start out as a hot threesome, there is a fourth man who is added to the mix, there are almost broken hearts, and one big-ass hummer of a secret. All of which come very close to destroying what Spencer, Ryder and Luc have built. Almost.

Adding the tension and the outside threats to the mix of three/four men trying to build a lasting relationship worked really well for me. And the ending? Man, I sure didn't expect that! Where is volume number three when I need it???

*grumbles* This book ends with a HUGE cliffhanger. If that annoys you as much as it does me, you'll want to put off reading this one until the next in the series comes out.

There is only one reason why this book got the four star treatment instead of the five stars and that was the end. The book was great, emotional and funny and the sex was hot. I read romance primarily because I believe an absolutely fantabulous romance should have an HEA, yes a happily ever after. It turns me off the book when there is an HFN (happily for now) or a cliffhanger like this book had. While I would recommend this book to my friends who like the m/m books, I suggest they or anyone wait until the third book in the Wolf Harem series by Joyee Flynn is out before reading it. I very much had a WTF reaction when it ended, so beware.

Great author though. There is enough story and sex to make it a really great erotic romance and I will definitely be adding this author to my TBB list. I have three other m/m authors I like and now I have four. This is the first one I have read from her and yes while I know this is the second of the series, don't be put off by that. At the beginning, in the prologue, there is a short recap of what has happened and while yes, I will probably read the first one, I seemed to have gotten the highlights just from that and was definitely satisfied with this book other than the ending. I'm hoping the author writes quickly, as ending a book like that and then waiting too long for another could really turn some off to ever reading her stuff again.

It was a well written book. The little geek in me only found maybe 2 mistakes at most. The sex scenes were so hot, including the chocolate/turning scene. I'm a fan of only three m/m published authors. I read every single m/m book they have out, and I love them all- Joyee Flynn is one of them.

However, if you absolutely hate cliffhangers, then DO NOT READ!

I slightly overreacted and woke up my whole family screaming "WHAT KIND OF BULLSHIT IS THAT?!" I finally finished reading the book in 10 hours (so many distractions kept occurring) and while it was an awesome, hot, well done story the cliffy was a bit of turnoff.

Do I recommend it? Yes, definitely. BUT: I do recommend that you wait for the #3 of the Wold Harem series to come out before reading it!

I enjoyed watching the dynamics of this new wolf pack. Are they two or can they be three. How is the balance going to work if a fourth going to be added? How big will the pack be and will they just be member or lovers. Who's going to be jealous? Do they have the communication skills and the right kind of personalities to make it work? What will people in town think? I looked watching all unfold...and then you get stuck with a cliff hanger that leaves you screaming at the pages. Luckily, the next book in the series is out and I already had it ready to go!

Book two in the Werewolf Harem series, Spencer's Secret, continues the saga of Spencer and his continually expanding pack/harem. If you enjoy stories that involve multiple sex partners then this is the book for you. Spencer is single handedly increasing the werewolf population by leaps and bounds. Unlike the first book, Second Chance Bite, Spencer's Secret takes what was a cute and heartwarming story, and turns it into a very sex centered romp. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

I liked this book, especially how it literally picks up where Second Chance Bite left off. My only REAL problem with it is the really abrupt way that it ended (It was like reading "Bob heard the doorbell ring. He opened the door. The End")

Boy am I glad I had the third installment of this series otherwise I would have gone crazy with the humongous cliffhanger. This second installment was even better than the first, more emotional and sweet.

Spencer and his growing pack of werewolves are forced to move to an area without a pack if they don’t want to join the local one and meet Dean along the journey
