My first modern Joan Smith tale with a mystery from Regency era to be solved by our heroine. A bit fantastical but still enjoyable.

Sappy. Melodramatic. Not my cup of tea at all.

The age of our original heroine was a little off putting, even for the regency period. Not to mention the original love story challenging to believe was genuine, for the same reason. The secondary love story felt way too rushed to even call it a story. Overall, a lot of promise but fairly disappointing execution

x. I like the Regency tragedy Belle tells of past Arabella and Alexander, not them reincarnated and possessed current-day. Regular poodles are large. Typos: 17.11 hint is him.

I love this book. It's not your usual historical romance. The main character is an author who writes historical romance. She is on a trip to England to research her latest book when she is distracted by a local legend. A ghost story. And a group of villagers who have séances and believe in clairvoyance. This story is about the author and how she becomes the main character in her own seemingly hopeless love story.

It is a kind of mixture of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir and Georgette Heyer's Regency Novels and her Murder Mysteries. Somehow, Joan Smith makes it work. I don't want to spoil it by saying too much but I loved it enough to buy the book so I can read it over again. I love the way she brought it all to a very satisfying end. Not your usual historical romance. Oh, no, indeed!
