About the author

Joan Smith is a graduate of Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, and the Ontario College of Education. She has taught French and English in high school and English in college. When she began writing, her interest in Jane Austen and Lord Byron led to her first choice of genre, the Regency, which she especially liked for its wit and humor.
Her favorite travel destination is England, where she researches her books. Her hobbies are gardening, painting, sculpture and reading. She is married and has three children. A prolific writer, she is currently working on Regencies and various mysteries at her home in Georgetown, Ontario.

The age of our original heroine was a little off putting, even for the regency period. Not to mention the original love story challenging to believe was genuine, for the same reason. The secondary love story felt way too rushed to even call it a story. Overall, a lot of promise but fairly disappointing execution

I love this book. It's not your usual historical romance. The main character is an author who writes historical romance. She is on a trip to England to research her latest book when she is distracted by a local legend. A ghost story. And a group of villagers who have séances and believe in clairvoyance. This story is about the author and how she becomes the main character in her own seemingly hopeless love story.

It is a kind of mixture of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir and Georgette Heyer's Regency Novels and her Murder Mysteries. Somehow, Joan Smith makes it work. I don't want to spoil it by saying too much but I loved it enough to buy the book so I can read it over again. I love the way she brought it all to a very satisfying end. Not your usual historical romance. Oh, no, indeed!
