Hola y bienvenidos nuevamente, hoy vamos a platicar sobre un libro estupendo como primera opción de lectura para niños a partir de unos 10 años y que no han tenido contacto previo con la lectura, se trata de SWITCH, Estampida de arañas de Ali Sparkes editado por Uranito México, entremos entonces de lleno a la reseña.

En SWITCH, Estampida de arañas vamos a encontrar aventura, ciencia, experimentos, insectos, arañas, ratas, cambios de forma y una vecina loca, todos temas que a los niños de 9 o 10 años llaman mucho la atención, simplemente hay que ver el tipo de caricaturaras y películas que les gustan a esa edad, todo eso estará al alcance de los niños acompañado de una lectura rápida, ágil, amena, sencilla que mantiene a los pequeños interesados y emocionados por querer saber que va a ocurrir en la siguiente página.

El libro trata sobre los gemelos Yosh y Danny, quienes a pesar de ser idénticos físicamente son polos opuestos en cuanto a carácter, temperamento, gustos y aficiones. Yosh es aficionado de los bichos, todo lo que tenga que ver con insectos, gusanos y arañas, le encanta la vida salvaje e investigar. En cambio, Danny es más aficionado a lo extremo, a lo deportes y a los juegos, de hecho, odia a los insectos. Ambos hermanos se van a ver en un aprieto cuando deciden entrar a escondidas y sin permiso al ático de su vecina, una señora de mal genio que todo mundo cree está loca, y no diré más para que tengan oportunidad de leer el libro y disfrutarlo.

Además de todos estos elementos que gustan a los niños, en SWITCH vamos a encontrar datos interesantes sobre las arañas, las ratas y los insectos, si bien no es un libro científico si incluye información que a los niños les llamará la atención y de paso aprenderán alguna que otra cosa, lo que complementa aún más a este libro.

Sobre la edición quiero mencionar dos cosas que me parece muy importante resaltar, a pesar de tener 200 páginas la lectura es muy rápida porque la letra es grande y además a lo largo del libro vamos a encontrar imágenes en blanco y negro relacionadas a la historia, algunas que incluso abarcan páginas completas, por lo que los niños leerán el libro muy rápido, lo que resulta muy positivo ya que habrán sentido que leyeron un libro "grueso" lo que aumentará su autoestima lectora y los motivará para tomar su siguiente libro.

Retomando el tema de las ilustraciones a mí en lo particular me gustaron mucho, le dan un toque de cómic que abona al gusto de los niños, además por estar en blanco y mejor incluso podría ser que los niños las puedan colorear.

Otro detalle positivo es que por el momento son 4 los libros de esta colección de SWITCH, lo que muy probablemente haga que los niños quieran leer uno tras otro consiguiendo así una seguidilla de lecturas importante.

Y como no podía dejar pasar la oportunidad de hablar del libro desde mi perspectiva de padre, realmente creo que esta es una lectura que podemos usar para dar un par de lecciones a nuestros hijos, la primera es que el respeto hacia las demás personas y hacia las cosas de las demás personas es importante, de faltar a esto podemos meternos en serios problemas tal como le ocurrió a los protagonistas de esta historia y la segunda lección es que debemos aceptar lo que somos y como somos y aprender a disfrutarlo, y eso aplica al aspecto físico y de carácter, sin perder de vista que siempre podremos mejorar alguno que otro aspecto.

Para concluir no me resta más que recomendar este libro, lo encontramos divertido, entretenido y muy útil, un excelente habitante de nuestra biblioteca familiar.

This is one of the best books I’ve read because it a good adventure. I really liked both Josh and Danny, the two main characters. I’m turning 7 in one day so this book is good for a 7 year old.

Twin brothers Josh and Danny love to play in their backyard with their dog. And like most young boys, they make a decent amount of noise which disturbs their grouchy neighbor, Miss Pots. The boys stumble upon some crazy experiments Miss Pots is performing and they end up being changed into spiders. Josh isn't too bothered by this as he loves anything creepy crawly! Danny, on the other hand, hates spiders so you can imagine what he thinks of now being one. The boys face adventure and peril as they try to survive in the insect world while also trying to figure out how to change back to their regular selves. The sinister Miss Pots has plans for the brothers now that they have unwittingly become her test subjects. They had better watch out as the diabolical and scatter-brained neighbor continues experimenting with S.W.I.T.C.H. (Serum Which Initiates Total Cellular Hijack)!
This is a fun introduction to a new intermediate series that will appeal to boys (and girls) in 2nd grade on up. Nice bonuses at the end include a glossary and list of books and websites that might be of interest to the reader.

I can see the appeal this book will have with young children. Two boys are transformed into spiders as they explore their neighbors shed. The vocabulary is good, with an index in the back to explain certain terms. From an adult standpoint, this is not a long, hard read. From a younger standpoint, this is a great chance for a good summer or any time read.

Read this with the kids. The writing is a little awkward (but I think it was translated from another language?), but my bug-lover really enjoyed the story. It moves quickly and has quite a few pictures, making it a great read-aloud for kids starting to listen to chapter books.

I think these books are gross, repetitive and kind of boring. D loves them. He gets to pick what we read and gives the ratings so well done to his uncle who got a great birthday present for a 7 year old..

Will interest boys but not exclude girls. Typical stereotypes for girls. Good more 3rd grade. A good series starter. Some science tie ins. Good glossary and websites in the back. Stepped on toad?

Mrs Potts is obviously a very clever and inventive scientist. I wish there were more books like the Switch Series. Children, especially girls need to read about female leads and mentor in STEM roles.
