Illustrated Textbook of Paediatrics 2/e covers the core curriculum for undergraduate teaching of clinical paediatrics. The second edition retains the innovative, full-colour design of the first, incorporating numerous colour photographs, diagrams, illustrated case histories and clinical hints & tips highlighted by a 'smiley face' icon. The writing style is succinct, with bullet-point lists used to facilitate reading and learning, and the content is pared down to cover what students really need to know and no more . There is one new chapter on The Child in Society covering general issues in child health in developed and developing countries. All the system-based chapters have been thoroughly revised and coverage of ethics, evidence-based medicine and developmental paediatrics has been expanded. Identifies key topics and tells students which topics are absolutely essential New chapter on The Child in Society provides introduction to community paediatrics and key child health issues in developed and developing countries Detail about Evidence Based Medicine (e.g. how this applies to paediatric practice, how to do research in children, etc) Revision of all system-based chapters brings chapters up-to-date, provides better explanations where text has become too condensed and allows improvement of diagrams Bullet-point writing style allows rapid assimilation and retention of information Specially drawn artworks and flow charts clarify anatomy & physiology (e.g. in Cardiac chapter), examination techniques and diagnostic/therapeutic interventions more effectively, and more memorably, than acres of text Improved design and hierarchy of headings and paler background to tables mean easier navigation and information retrieval; less strain on the eye!
Good. But I think it’s summarized and that will be a problem for those with a weak foundation in pathophysiology and adult medicine. If only the important details were included I think it’ll be half of it’s size. Toooo many repetitions and unnecessary details. I love it’s summaries and little boxes. I dislike it’s paragraphs that just repeat stuff over and over and suddenly drop a new sentence.
Good book, easy to go through. Illustration were of great help to me. However, a book is never enough in medicine and you can never guarantee the main source of the exam.
A good book for students, very effortless to read. Nice visuals, good graphics. Needs some proofreading in some chapters. The authors are great but the editor did a poor job sometimes. Also one cannot inform them anywhere of mistakes. The H2 blocker is NOT an hydrogen blocker!!!
This is a great book for both Theory and Practical sessions, it covers everything, it's a little bit detailed, so make sure you start a month before your test
This is the most beautiful book of pediatrics I have seen. It is full of pictures, graphics and it is really easy to read. Although it is not enough for requirements of medicine studies, some topics are missing and others are given quite shortly, I loved it. :)
A very concise textbook, it covers an enormous area, not in any great detail, but in enough. It gives a good foundation of paediatric medicine on top of which one can build up their understanding by googling the conditions only briefly described. In order to make the most of this book, I think it is first necessary to have studied some general (adult) medicine, and then after having read it, test yourself on your new knowledge. 'Passmedicine' is what I'd recommend for that. All in all, this was a very readable textbook that kept me pretty interested. I would have liked a bit more personality in it, but I still haven't gotten over the brilliance of 'Psychiatry PRN'.
Very good textbook to study medicine as an undergraduate student. I did not like the pictures very much but the text was very clear and thorough (for the purpose of this book but not for a specialist anyway). The self-assessment book was very helpful to revise and fully understand the material. Highly recommended.
A very good introduction to paediatrics world, I like they way of presenting information, covering almost everything but not that detailed. I recommend it as a first paediatric book to read, for 3-5 years of medical studies, for last year students need more detailed book I guess..
this was boring.... except for a few chapters... I would've chosen another source to study but unfortunately this was the recommended for the curriculum.
