In the history of television, there are very few shows that can truly be called classics. The Dick Van Dyke Show is one of those few. Weissman and Sanders have succeeded in capturing the unique flavor of the appealing, warm comedy that went straight to the heart of the American public, in this inside story of the situation comedy that has found an eager new audience on Nickelodeon. 100 photos.
Unless you are an insane fan, get it for the first 150 pages. The early part of the book does a lovely job of telling the story of the show and taking you behind the scenes. After that we have Wiki style entries on each actor, IMDB style episode recaps with lots of names and finally a full script. Don't care about any of these last three myself.
For three bucks on Amazon, it is definitely great for what you get on those early pages. This is a place where digital is your friend. A good sized paper book where you don't care about the last two-thirds would be another story...
I'm a huge fan of the Dick Van Dyke show, so when I saw this on a resale table I had to read it. I knew a lot of the information already, but it was still fun to revisit one of the greatest television shows ever.
