He gained an MFA in creative writing from the University of British Columbia and was an International Writing Fellow at the University of Iowa.
He is an award winning playwright whose plays have been produced in the UK, USA and Canada.
He also writes children's books, as well as for television. His recent novel Book of Sands won the HarperCollins Prize for Best New Fiction.

The moral of the story is nice, that every act of kindness will be rewarded even if in unexpected ways!
The story is about a young prince who rescues a mouse from being caught in a thorny bush, and how the mouse is able to repay him in turn one day when the prince finds himself in need of help.
