Soldier's Night Mission

Rate this book
Special Forces operative Carter Baigneaux has never shied away from danger—and he has the scars to prove it. His assignment to interview astrophysicist Lily James about her latest research project hardly qualifies as a life-or-death mission. But after thwarting kidnapping attempts, facing potential nuclear war and sharing the most lust-inducing kisses he'd ever experienced, the war-hardened soldier isn't so sure.

Lily might not consider herself a sexy scientist but she can't resist the way she feels in her handsome bodyguard's arms—and in his bed. And when a deadly formula finds itself in criminal hands, this unlikely duo must avert a military and scientific disaster that could end the world….

Cindy Dees started flying airplanes while sitting in her dad’s lap at the age of three and got a pilot’s license before she got a driver’s license. At age fifteen, she dropped out of high school and left the horse farm in Michigan where she grew up to attend the University of Michigan.

After earning a degree in Russian and East European studies, she joined the U.S. Air Force and became the youngest female pilot in the history of the Air Force. She flew supersonic jets, VIP airlift and the “C-5” Galaxy, the world’s largest airplane. She also worked part-time gathering intelligence. During her military career, she traveled to forty countries on five continents, was detained by the KGB and East German secret police, she got shot at, flew in the first Gulf War, met her husband and amassed a lifetime’s worth of war stories.

Her hobbies include professional Middle Eastern dancing, Japanese gardening and medieval reenacting. She started writing on a one-dollar bet with her mother and was thrilled to win that bet with the publication of her first book in 2001.

As a Navy brat and Tricare employee in real life, I have the utmost respect and admiration for our military. (Yes I'm one of those - I LOVE a guy in uniform!) Only thing better than a guy in uniform is a girl in uniform...and veterans who write romance? Too cool! So I picked up this Cindy Dees book from the trade shelf at work and it sounded interesting. Admit it, ladies - special forces guys are HOT! And I like smart heroines - I HATE damsels-in-distress. The scenario is Armageddon w/a twist - meteorite scheduled to slam into Nowhere, Siberia...which just happens to be the secret location of a doomsday device. Suddenly it's not about barbequed bunnies anymore but the whole human race. Racing clock, international relations, embassies and spies, secret government installations in the desert... Ms. Dees packs a LOT in 217 pages!

The character chemistry was smokin' hot. I was hooked with "I know better than to walk away from your kind of fire, chere." (Yes, Carter's from NAWLINS) Good-old-boy goes to MIT? More to this guy than your average grunt-with-a-gun. Lily's brilliant but shy and not used to any excitement - she lives in a lab w/math equations and chalkboards. Her idea of getting out of the lab is teaching bored college students in a classroom. She's in way over her head, but she holds her own. These two are great together.

Very fun book!

This book was awesome had me engaged from the first chapter. I love the hero a southern charmer. The heroine was a little bit of Tnt she was great but the only flaw I had was...the heroine had a problem with the hero killing some lethal kids but when she shot a man there was not too much remorese or shock. I felt she was too nonchalant. Since she even was a vegetarian and had a problem with his killing. It suprised me that there was none with hers. This did not sit well considering her personaIity. I really felt she would have been more upset.
I have read the Charlie Squad and a couple of Medusa books by Cindy Dee's. I like the way she writes. I feel like I am right there. It is nice that Ms. Dee's flew a plane in milàtary herself. I really get the intense emotion. And many of her heroines wear sexy lingeraie under there uniform or during a danger situation Keeps our heroes priorities straight. LOL
