Absolutely gorgeous! Now that I've borrowed this book from the library, I MUST get my own copy. I already have the perfect home for it on my coffee table.

I not only loved every single one of the amazing and brilliant photographs, but I thought it was such a great idea to have some backstory about the photographer herself, as well as tips on photography, drying flowers and creating flower arrangements.

I love the smaller, square size and the paper quality is lovely.

The perfect gift for anyone who loves flowers, Provence (or France in general) and breathtaking landscapes or portraits.

So much perfection in such a small volume. I hope I can get a copy of my very own soon. Highly recommended!

The Flowers of Provence is a stunning photography book reflecting Jamie Beck's relationship with flowers during the time she has spent in France. Unlike her first book, An American in Provence, this one has very little writing; a lengthy introduction is followed by a tutorial on preserving flowers and tips for cutting and preserving flowers at home. If you're looking for a photography book, the instructions are an added bonus. If you're looking more for information on flowers found in Provence, this could be found wanting. Either way you still come out ahead because Jamie's photographs are moving, beautiful, and I am so happy to have this lovely collection in book form. My favorites are, as always, her self portraits.

I was given an advanced sample via NetGalley but also the copy I purchased myself came early, allowing me to post my full review before release day. This will be out on Tuesday, October 24th 2023.

The Flowers of Provence by Jamie Beck is nothing short of awe inspiring. Stunning imagery that captures the imagination, sparks creativity, and stimulates a sense of nostalgia. Jamie provides a visual tribute to the beauty from the region that has captivated her heart and soul. Through vivid storytelling, the reader gets to see the rich complexity of florals in this region. Lush and bold, soft and demure, whatever your preference may be, there is something here for everyone. It is easy to see why she has fallen in love with this region! The tutorial for preserving flowers detailed, specific, and easy to follow. I also enjoyed the short snippets of notes and insights interspersed throughout.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are solely own, freely given.

The Flowers of Provence
4 Stars

The Flowers of Provence is a gorgeous photography book. The sample ARC is small, it only contains 26 pages. I found the photos stunning, but I hesitate to rate this book higher with so little of the book seen. I found myself smiling along with Beck's childhood re-telling. My love for flowers also began with my grandma. Gardening has always been my haven, and I passed that love of nature to my children.

Overall, I enjoyed this book; it's very inspiring. The artist in me is ready to watercolor colorful florals. Thank you, NetGalley and Simon Element, for the advance review sample for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

High-quality photographs, shot with obvious dedication and love. It was a pleasure going through this book - a very relaxing, almost meditative experience. I often felt as if I could sense the fragrance of the flowers or feel the buzzing of the bees through the pages.

Jamie Beck is skillfully able to capture the essence of Mediterranean nature, but she is also adept at playing with light and composition in a way heavily reminiscent of Renaissance and Baroque paintings. The work with light and shadow reminded me not only of the Baroque movement but of Impressionistic paintings, as did some of the clothes worn for the portraits. Definitely recommend!

I’m a huge fan of Jamie Beck’s work as a photographer, and was so excited when she announced her second book. It doesn’t have much in the way of written text, and focuses on many different kinds of floral photos.

Taking one star off because I feel like the editors did her dirty with the way some of the photographs were cropped. We don’t need two inches of table showing beneath the vase while the top of the flowers were chopped off. But it’s still a gorgeous collection and one I’ll enjoy many times over.

There is something about bloggers claiming to be artists. They simply cannot keep their social media behavior out of the other avenues.

Why post photos of oneself or their underage child when the book is supposed to be about flowers? seems pretty narcissistic. The photos look like they have all been applied the same filter in photoshop and look extremely commercial.
Came across it at the local library, would not spend my money on buying it.

Minus one star for several photos of a lady (the author herself?) and a lady with a child. The book is to be about flowers not people.
