Ninth. Another that I'm pretty sure I'd never read before. Sari takes a temporary job as governess to two french girls and stumbles onto international intrigue in Beirut.
This reminded me in many ways of the Heroine's Sister. If I'd read it as a teenager it probably would have been one of my favorite ever books. The love interest barely shows up, but there's no doubt who he his and she tells him off but good, on more than on occasion. Another typical Elsie Lee in the way that the heroine is right when knows she's right (so refreshing compared to the Harlequin's of the period!)
Definitely suspense, not gothic, but the plot was so convoluted and the entire picture of what was going on so obscure that I was almost convinced information was missing.
