A somewhat gory story about Elizabeth Covington - a young London woman in the late eighties of the nineteenth century who wants to brush up on her medical knowledge for her exam. A good read, I appreciated the original angle and the fast pace.
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I loved the historical setting of this book. It really felt like I was reading something from the 1800s in the classic British literature style. I also really enjoyed the nifty twist on the jack the ripper story. This will not be the last book of Rena’s that I read! This was really fantastic and I will definitely read it again. I would recommend this to anyone who loves horror novels mixed with a dash of classic British literature.
*Maybe some spoilers* Jack the ripper time period. Girl who is in medical school is doing abortions on prostitutes. She made a mistake with one and killed her. She is about to get married and women have to be wives not have careers. She will pass school no matter what becuase of who her father is. But isnt expected to be doing actual procedures. Her father gets talked to about the ripper case and she helps convince them it couldn't be a women. (Even if she is responsible for keeping them busy finding bodies as well as Jack)

Very clever. The protagonist had enough anger to desire the death of these women. The way this story was put together, combined with all the Jack The Ripper elements, made it an enjoyable read for me.
Speculations were made that it was someone with medical knowledge. It's impressive how the killer used their profession to get ahead in a time when women were not granted the same chances as men.
