Stephen Fry Greek Myths Series 3 Books Collection
In this companion to his bestselling Mythos, Stephen Fry brilliantly retells these dramatic, funny, tragic and timeless tales. Join Jason aboard the Argo as he quests for the Golden Fleece. See Atalanta - who was raised by bears - outrun any man before being tricked with golden apples. Witness wily Oedipus solve the riddle of the Sphinx and discover how Bellerophon captures the winged horse Pegasus to help him slay the monster Chimera.
The Greek myths are amongst the greatest stories ever told, passed down through millennia and inspiring writers and artists as varied as Shakespeare, Michelangelo, James Joyce and Walt Disney. They are embedded deeply in the traditions, tales and cultural DNA of the West. You'll fall in love with Zeus, marvel at the birth of Athena, wince at Cronus and Gaia's revenge on Ouranos, weep with King Midas and hunt with the beautiful and ferocious Artemis.
Stephen John Fry is an English comedian, writer, actor, humourist, novelist, poet, columnist, filmmaker, television personality and technophile. As one half of the Fry and Laurie double act with his comedy partner, Hugh Laurie, he has appeared in A Bit of Fry and Laurie and Jeeves and Wooster. He is also famous for his roles in Blackadder and Wilde, and as the host of QI. In addition to writing for stage, screen, television and radio he has contributed columns and articles for numerous newspapers and magazines, and has also written four successful novels and a series of memoirs.
A wonderful and well written introduction to the most important and most famous heroes, gods and the Iliad. The style is extremely approachable, the characters do not feel one dimensional as they do in several other „reimaginings“ or retellings of these myths. The style in which everything is presented especially read out by Fry himself is just most delightful. I can absolutely recommend this book to anyone with just a superficial interest in mythology of any kind.
Having Stephen Fry read the audio version is a true treat. I loved each of the three books. Fry has an amazing ability to entice the reader with his superb style and beautifully descriptive details. I enjoyed them all so much I read them and listened to them multiple times.
This read is mandatory for those interested not only about Greek mythology but also the beginning of misogyny, how women are portrayed and the role they play in the oldest stories of the world
