Listen, that’s my bad. I got this free on stuff your kindle day and didn’t really research what the book was about. If you’re super Christian and love fantasy. This is your book. For me? Nah, take this book and throw it away. What did I just read. It started as a fun whackadoodle read and by the end? Get OUT of here.

I really feel like Lisa Lowell did a great job of building her physical world. The descriptions were easy to picture and beautifully written, but not so overly done as to bog down the story. I was able to follow the location of things despite all the places (I am horrible at directions so this is saying a lot). I loved the dragons. They were fun and wise and added a distinct magical feel to the story.

I found the magic system to be a bit confusing since they seemed super powered, and then would randomly seem bound by rules. I would have liked a bit more foreshadowing of the rules of magic. Also, I was a little put off by the fact that Owailion would always dive into Raimi’s personal thoughts to figure out what was wrong with her without abandon, but I don’t remember Raimi ever once doing that to Owailion. It felt like a very one sided invasion of privacy in that sense.

I liked that Raimi came with insecurities that ended up playing into the themes of the overall story. It made the ending all the more poignant. Emotionally, I would have liked more of a balance between Raimi and Owailion to make them feel more equal. It was clear that Raimi had all the problems and Owailion was the man there to comfort and protect her. Although, this strangely served to make the ending a bit more satisfying.

The plot started out a bit slow, but the author notes this in her book description so that you are aware that is the case. It begins to pick up about halfway through, and gets more and more engaging from there. I feel like there were parts that were very cleverly done in how they find solutions to the ‘Name magic’ problems. (ie. using name magic to control people).

There were some grammatical mistakes. I am not one to notice a few grammatical mistakes, but there were enough in this book to trip me up a few times and have to stop and reread sentences.

As someone who is not a huge fan of fated stories, I found this one intriguing and well done. The dragons were fun, the climax intriguing, the ending poignant, and the descriptions beautiful. If you like religious based fantasy, then this would be a great

When Owailion awakes he can’t remember anything from his past life. Mohan, a giant dragon, reveals Owailion is the Awakened One, and that he has a destiny to fulfil. Under Mohan’s guidance, Owailion learns about the dragon’s land and the magic that resides there, as he is to guard the land from invaders when the dragon’s go into a thousand year hibernation. All is well until they discover rune stones have disappeared from the land and Owailion and his dragon companion must discover what happened to them.
It’s always difficult to set up such a magical and vast world in the first book of a series, and although I enjoyed learning about the dragons, Owailion’s role, and the magic, it did have a slow start. But as the story progressed, twists and surprises picked up the story, and adventure and action followed. I enjoyed discovering who Owailion was as he learnt more about himself and his role in the land of dragons. It was a great start to what promises to be an exciting series.

I enjoy reading about fantastical words with magic and dragons. This story delivered a complex, well-built world, and I was able to dive right in. Though the story did start slowly, it picked up about halfway through, and the ending was terrific.

I should note that there is a very religious aspect to this story. I am not a very religious person, but there was still a lot to enjoy about this book.

This book was very long but very well written. The characters and scenery come alive in your head as if you are there. This book almost feels like it is based on religious beliefs(they refer to God a lot) but it seems to work for the story which revolves around magic and some sorcery. Looking forward to books 2·

Well-crafted and graceful

Excellent book! This is a must-read for fantasy lovers. The writing is solid and the world she created is made real for the reader. Although one of the most endearing characters, for me at least, was lost, I look forward to the rest of the series.

Well written

I usually don't particularly care for books with God in them but she made it her own and didn't over do it. I thought the characters were well thought out. This story has a perfect dramatic flare I didn't see coming and I liked that.

CHARACTERS SHOULD DEVELOPE SOONER

Enjoyable story, but took awhile to get into it.
I liked it more as the characters evolved, but unsure if the next book is available yet.

Moves much to slowly. Characters seem to be driven by only one characteristic or goal - no complexity. The idea of the story is not bad, however, and sometimes the language is quite lovely.

Wise Ones

A great story about the trust and love of believing in god and what he wants for us in life. The way the world is now, this is something all should read. Great book.

A story which was quite unusual in its plotline, but the writing left a lot to be desired.

There will be spoilers in this review. In a land for only those chosen by God, Owailion awakes with amnesia and learns from a dragon named Mohan that he is to protect the land from all those who will bring harm to it. He is to be the King of Creation and the first awakened Wise One. For Mohan and all of the other dragons will soon enter hibernation for thousands of years to come. Owailion gifted with the magical abilities from the Earth, must prepare for the arrival of the other wise ones the come. While looking for the missing prophecy rune stunes, and also is ordered by God to marry the next wise one, Raimi.
The major theme is, “When humanity is given life changing power, humanity will always change life.” This theme is expressed through the book when Raimi and Owailion briefly used Raimi’s bowl to see the future. Where the was overpopulation, atmospheric changes, landscape changes and more. This is seen because it is considered the time after the dragons were to enter hibernation. After entrusting humans with god-like abilities, human would destroy everything they once held dear.
I could only really appreciate the figurative language put into the book. I didn’t like how slow it was it the beginning, and when Raimi awakened it got into a lot of in unrealistic representations of love. Raimi and Owailion were mates by the order of god. It didn’t seem truly believable to me that they just met and already had romantic feelings for each other. I didn’t like that there’s too many mandatory rules in their relationship. When Owailion says, “a man and a woman shouldn’t be alone together until they’re married.” I felt like a lot of it was confusing and way too unexplained. Especially at the end when everything was rushed together. How it took so long for them to find a priest, find out the priest is dead, then are disappointed that they can’t get legally married in the bonds of written laws when there were none to begin with. How Raimi is controlled by name magic the second time. How Raimi and Imzuli died so abruptly. It took me so much effort to stay engaged and focused. I loved the detail of a lot of this book, but I don’t think it’s a finished piece. That why I gave it a 2 out of 5.
