With Zar’Asur’s defeat, the Council hopes to have time to grieve for their losses and rebuild, but the demon Overlord has other plans. After the loss of the Master’s book, Zar’Asur uses his remaining resources to summon another Overlord. The demon brothers have a new strategy, with a diabolical plot that the Council discovers too late.
Mikel’s calm, analytical mind is nearly broken when the Overlords successfully complete the first phase of their plan. The rest of the Council must pick up the pieces and move forward in an attempt to rebuild their ranks. After centuries of hiding, the true evil of the Overlords is revealed once again. Loyalties will be tested and no one will walk away unscathed.

I love to read almost any genre. While the most popular authors continue to thoroughly entertain us, I've found some of my favorite series have come from new authors. My all-time favorite has to be Ben Hale's, Chronicles of Lumineia, along with all the side stories that go with it. A very close second is Michael Manning's, Mageborn Series. I've found several gems within some of the Anthologies I've purchased. One of these introduced me to Michael Ploof's, Whill of Agora Series, which kept me reading for weeks.
Of course, I'll always enjoy one of Robert Jordan's new releases or a re-read of Elizabeth Peter's, Amelia Peabody Series. But it thrills my reading soul to find a new and interesting twist, such as Kel Kade's, King's Dark Tidings or Donna Augustine's, Karma Series.

Starting off in a superhuman battle, Light’s Eyes starts exactly where book one left off. Except now, the battle is shifting. The light is beginning to lose, and they must scramble to not only gather intel on the new demonic forces but also must begin the long process of healing from the previous battle. This next wave of battle is far from over but the tactics on both sides change dramatically until the suspense is nearly overwhelming. It’s not all fighting and death though, there is also love, courage, and friendship laced throughout which makes the story all the more compelling.

The fight scenes are very well-written, and the worldbuilding is excellent. I will definitely be moving onto book three soon.

Normally I’m not interested in books that deal with demons and demonic possession, either fictional or historical, so the fact that I’ve read the second book in this series is testament to the originality of using a setting in the early 1800s for a novel about a fight with demons, and curiosity about what happens to the characters I met in the first book, ‘Light’s Rise.’ This second book in the series is set ten years after the first book and is also written well. The main difference is that much of the action takes place in North America rather than Europe, as the demonic beings outlined in the first book seek to expand their power base and summon more Overlords (true demons rather than demons possessing human forms) to lead their fledgling army. The only humans able to resist them are members of the Council, who use magic to counter the powers of the demons.

The book is quirky and inventive. The training and fight scenes are done well. There is plenty of action, pace and good ideas, and a degree of detective work on the part of the human characters. Darian is the main character and he is well-rounded and likeable. There is one thing that struck me, though – some lack of tension in the book since the protagonists all seem a bit too nice to each other most of the time and I felt there wasn’t enough distinction between them with regard to personalities. Having said that, giving individual characteristics to a large number of protagonists is not easy.

I liked the way that Darian changed through the two books. In this one he is ten years older, and a leader rather than a follower. I liked the development of the story and it held my interest as I wanted to know what happened next. All in all, a good and intriguing read.

Overview: Five demonic leaders threaten the world as a group of heavenly warriors race to unlock their evil plan and defend humanity against their growing army in “Light’s Eyes (Light in the Darkness Book 2)” by Yvette Bostic.

“Light’s Eyes” opens up an exciting and perilous new chapter in the back and forth battle of forces present in the Light in the Darkness Series. On both sides of the fence, rich characters with complex backstories, heightened strengths, diverse skills, and individual goals populate this novel, and while Bostic monopolizes well on all these aspects, they all blend well into the overall tapestry of the ultimate battle of Good vs. Evil.

With Darian’s training now complete, and his mentorship over Cyrus deemed a success, Author Yvette Bostic focuses her main cast of characters (Mikel, Raphael, Angelina, Magdelin, Juann, and Eli—just to name a few) on much higher aspirations and goals as they delve into a brazen new pattern of behavior coming from the sibling-leaders of the defeated lord, Zar-Asur. While the overlords remain intent on spreading over continents and growing their demon hoard for—as of yet—unknown purposes, the heavenly forces are forced to find new recruits—those gifted and mundane—to assist in their efforts to preserve humanity.

Bostic’s plotline is rife with action, including back-and-forth skirmishes and bloody confrontations between the forces of good and evil. Possession and torture act as tools of the trade for the demons, while friendship, romance, love, and hope spur the heavenly forces onward in their battle to save the world.

This novel does contain graphic violence and mild adult situations. I highly recommend this fantasy novel for ages 15 and up.

Light's Eyes is the second in the Light in the Darkness series from Yvette Bostic (third if you count the short prequel novella, which you really should read as part of the series) and picks up right from where the first book left off.

It's a story of superhuman beings battling against demons during the Napoleonic War, trying to foil demonic plans to throw the world into turmoil and subvert it to their dark will.

Now let's be honest here - this is book two. If you're interested in how this is then you're already invested. You're not going to start here. Or to quote Captain Mal Reynolds, "You can't open the book of my life and jump in the middle."

Go back to the start, begin there and I'll meet you back here once you've caught up.

Caught up? Good. Well, this one has more of the same fast-moving adventure - but with a twist. There are new enemies to bolster the old, and new allies to help our band as they fight on the side of the angels.

I particularly liked that the heroes keep coming to the aid of those who find themselves often trampled on by life - the occupants of a brothel, the villagers about to be steamrollered by demons, those without power on their side.

A resolution to it all remains, of course - which on the evidence of this book will be suitably epic.

Another great read

Good versus evil! People being sacrificed in order to bring the Overlord's back from the dead. The Overlords are powerful demons, and the only ones that can defeat them are the Council -- God's chosen ones.
Darian, the main protagonist, is one of God's chosen - I must admit, he is also my favourite character.
In Book 2, there is more enemies to fight. More lives are lost as the enemy gain strength - not only in numbers, but also their knowledge. Will good eventually conquer evil? How many more lives will be lost? Will the Council be able to find more of God's chosen people before time runs out? I guess all the answers to my questions are waiting to be discovered in Book 3.

This book follows on nicely from the previous one. Interesting new characters are introduced and you learn a little more about the existing ones. The pace is perfect. There is enough action to keep you reading yet it is not always ‘go go go’. The scenes are well described, allowing you to easily picture them in your mind. While this one continues to follow the one main character, the supporting characters are well represented as well. What makes these books stand out from others is the little scenes and conversations that aren’t really needed for the story, but help you get to know and understand the people better. I can’t wait to read book 3.

The epic good versus evil battle continues

As the Council of Light struggle to keep up with the rapidly advancing plans of the evil Overlords and their demon hordes, they must struggle with their own troubles as well. The Overlords have spread their hold into the wilds of the Americas and across the other continents. Will the Council be able to recruit and build their resources in time or is it already too late?

This Series Keeps Getting Better!
The second full-length installment in the Light in the Darkness series, Light’s Eyes brings new faces to both sides of the battle between light and darkness. The nature of the conflict is shifting. Zar’Asur’s fall allows a new, cannier Overlord to ascend– one who is capable of waging a far more strategically complex war against the forces of light.

The rise of a new Overlord catches the Council by surprise, and Darian and his allies scramble to gather information, search out the source of the demonic blight, and build their defenses. Many of their number are still recovering, both physically and psychologically, from the toll inflicted by the previous battle.

This sets the stage for a whole new level of conflict, one much more like a game of cat-and-mouse than a series of straightforward attacks. There’s tragedy, love, loyalty, and even humor (teleporting cows, anyone?) Light’s Eyes is a darker tale than those that came before it, but the evidence that there are real consequences for the heroes makes the story all that much more relatable.

Light’s Eyes is my favorite book so far in this series and I’m really looking forward to the next one!

I am well into this series now and I read this book in such a short space of time that I surprised myself, but I just wanted to know what would happen next! This is good vs evil with a different slant and I loved how this book begins to raise the stakes. You can feel the events building up as things begin to unravel and the characters of both sides try their hardest to stay ahead, but the enemy is growing stronger and I get the distinct nailbiting notion that things could go very wrong for the heroes in book 3. This is a really worthy sequel to book 1 and I'd recommend this to anyone looking for adventure! You will not be disappointed!
