Being bonded to a peevish adolescent wyvern can be pretty irritating, and Conner Stonefield wants nothing more than to ditch his dragon and get back to his simple life. But he soon discovers that the dragon may be the only one on his side. While human and dragon struggle to find common ground, word reaches both the Harmonic and Anarchic orders of the first human-dragon bonding in over five hundred years, and an urgent race to find the pair begins.
Meanwhile, Princess Veressa finds her bond, but her connection with the animal is stronger than she could have imagined, and the future that’s revealed to her in a vision veers far from the path she is expected to take. When tragedy strikes, Veressa is faced with a host of new responsibilities, and she must find the courage and wisdom to begin making difficult choices. Unforeseen circumstances force Conner and Veressa to cross paths again—this time resulting in a connection that will prove anything but fleeting.

This morning, I uploaded the final (final, yes, seriously, final!) version of the manuscript for this book. And much like standing and waving goodbye to a son or daughter as they drive away to college, I cannot help but feel a bit of satisfaction in what has been born, though also some trepidation in how it will be received.
In truth, this book was finished at the same time that “Call” (Book 1) was complete. “Call” and “Order” are, in my mind, kindred spirits, twins joined at the (book) spine. That is why I had originally planned to release them at the same time. Luckily, better judgment won the day. For those readers who posted their thoughts about “Call,” both here on Goodreads and at Amazon, you had a hand in this past month rescripting, clarifying, polishing, and even adding a few more chapters to the story.
So here I stand at the end of the road, my hand in the air long after my book has past beyond the horizon. I trust that it is in good hands. I must return now to my keyboard, to prepare the next of its kind slated for the same fate as its two older siblings.
If you find this book, I can only hope you come to love it half as much as I have loved creating it. Just please be sure to remind it to write home occasionally.
I loved the first book so much I had to buy the second one in the series! I loved how Conner evolved in this book to finally accept his bond with Skye. My favorite part was when Skye teaches Conner a dragon song; not only was the scene humorous, it showed the strength of their bond. I also liked the exciting fight scene with Marcantos since it is a pivotal point in Conner's connection with the elementals. I plan to buy the third book and the novella about the antagonist!
The second installment ended up being better than the first. The author did an excellent job of developing both the world and the characters in throughout the first book which enables the reader to dive right into this one. The plot moved along at a good pace and held my interest throughout. It was difficult to remember some of the characters, but my memory was refreshed throughout the passages.
The dragon continues to be a great character. Thankfully, Skye has larger role (although I enjoyed him more during the second half as his thoughts/perspective were addressed better due to Connor’s changing views toward him). I will admit that Connor’s reluctance to move forward or change during the first half of the book frustrated me. When I finished reading his actions made sense and it ended up being essential to his character. Once Connor started changing his attitude the plot picked up and major characters all shared the stage which delighted me.
Overall, the book was well written. The world was vivid and the characters flushed out and likeable. Very entertaining. I am invested in the characters and will definitely be reading the third installment when it comes out.
The second Dragonbonded book had everything I love--a dragon, epic battles, elemental magic, assassins, undead, betrayal, evil plots, and more! I cannot even begin to tell you how much I love J.D.'s work!
J.D. Hart writes so beautifully, and the world he has created--the bonds--it's so masterfully done, I just want to climb in the book and go on my own bonding quest!
It was a mixture of Tolkien, Sanderson, Cinda Williams Chima, and J.T. Williams!
This was a must-read epic! I cannot wait for the third book...and the Shazarack Chronicles!!!
If you're looking for the next great fantasy author, look no further!
Not bad. I think I enjoyed this more than the previous book. The MC's growth was an important part of the story. In the first book, he was immature and whiny at times. This book he had reasons for his actions that seemed plausible and he began to listen to advice given to him by his mentors. There was plenty of action, magical concepts, maturation of characters, and best of all. . . . Dragons. When reading this series, it could at times be classified as YA, although there was no indication of this when purchasing them. Still, both books were exciting enough to keep my attention throughout and good enough to hope for book three.
I like the authors take on the dragon bond. In this series everyone gets a bond... it is a right of passage, like becoming apprenticed to some master in some field of study or life work... a bond will happen. just so happens that dragons have been absent for a long time. Enter a kid who has his whole life planned out already, planning to be an apothecary, settle down marry a sweet girl etc, etc. whoops, the bond he gets is not fitting into his life plans... read this and enjoy it like i did. i am sure you will.
Some might feel this series is too slow or not enough action, but for me it feel so much like the epic adventures I grew up reading. It is the kind of story one can just sink into and let it carry you along. My only regret is I found it before it was completely written so I must await the growing drama on the horizon. I really liked the characters in this story!
I enjoyed the book. Much more drama in this book and the action was just right. I encourage you to continue with the story with a new book asap. I could not find time to do anything but read this one in a day. Thank you for that.
First of series features young reluctant hero and wyvern trying to adjust to bonded status. Young man learns basic magical skills of four types and wyvern molts into Dragon form. Elderly shaman character reminds me of Gandalf.
Awesome read with unique features of the bonding of humans with their counterpart creatures and the turmoil between the different councils of fears and magic. Brings forth the first of dragonbond since 500 years past.
Enjoyed a tale centered on a Male hero for a change after a long string of heroine sagas. I had been reading Guy Antibes stories, also with make leads but actually, boys. Connor is older and his maturity is good. Especially since JD Hart does not represent "maturity" as a mere romantic or sexual characteristic. Good, clean fantasy action from both authors.
