Do you know a child with a favourite storytime character? Crochet them a hooded blanket, then settle down to complete the entourage!
Bedtime bookworms will love snuggling up and listening to their favourite story in a cosy hooded blanket. Bring storytime to life as they act out the characters - will they be a goodie or a baddie, Little Red Riding Hood or the wolf?
Lynne Rowe's latest new book has ten fun, fairytale projects to crochet, including a deer, a dragon, a lion and a unicorn. Each blanket can be made in two for toddlers (age 2 to 4) and for young children (age 5 to 7).
Along with crochet techniques, there are suggestions for varying the yarn colour to create a different character (changing a polar bear into a brown bear, for example) and you can choose between a rounded or a pointed hood. Lynne has also designed a strip of matching bunting to accompany each project.
Every blanket tells a story, with pockets on the sides for snuggly paws and different tails. Perfect for unwinding for a bedtime story and animating the oral tradition of storytelling - little listeners, as well as their parents, will find themselves enchanted.
Even though my grandson is only 12 weeks old, I’m always looking for some things to make him for now or later. This is on the later list to come back to because I loved the lion blanket and think he’d look adorable wearing it. The others looked amazing as well, deer and polar bear especially.
These cute and gorgeous designs will make every bedtime something to look forward to for every child.
Made in two sizes.. Ages 2 – 4 and 5 – 7, they have a character theme from favourite childhood stories.
The technique guide makes it easy for even a beginner of crochet to be able to make a blanket and I loved the added embellishments such as bunting and pom poms.
The photography is amazing, it will encourage and inspire you to have a go and create something fun.
I’m sure each design can be adapted for a unique style for your child’s individuality, but each one is clever and imaginative.
I picked this one up as a Kindle Unlimited offering prior to making the decision to purchase.
I'm an experienced crocheter and these patterns look fairly straightforward: a basic corner-to-corner stitch in either a rectangular or square shape, with "extras" (hoods, mittens, embellishments) to make each unique. Instructions seem clear and easy to follow, pictures are gorgeous.
A bonus: the toddler looked over my shoulder as I flipped through the pages ooh-ing and ahh-ing as we went.
I think I would prefer this book in a print version should I actually purchase it.
Very cute designs. One basic corner to corner blanket pattern with changes to make different embellishments like a dragon or little red Riding Hood. It would be easy to.make a bunch for kids to play dress up.
