The story does not require a reading of the first volume but the storytelling does rely on the reader having done so. This individual tale is self-contained but it is written in a beautifully compressed way that page, even each panel, tells so much. A lot of which might be overlooked or confusing without knowledge garnered from the previous volume.

This is dark. This is solely comprised of adult themes. This is a horrific read. But in a good way.

More Hollywood noir pastiche plus magic; less satisfactory than the first outing, but the art still evokes the mood very well.

If the story has a good noir feeling in it and the art is great and there are bit of Vietnam war, it is a good read.
