Are the mysterious aliens the solution? Or are they the problem? Immortality? Um...be careful what you wish for! But first, humanity needs to avoid going extinct from the greatest threat they've ever faced...
Soldier, teacher, author, hobbyist; my past experiences find their way into my books. I have an imagination with few boundaries. I use that imagination extensively, particularly in my New Frontiers Series. By contrast, imagination figures in my Darwin's World series but there's also tons of personal experience. When I describe chipping flint, I've done it. I've set traps, made and used ropes, raised horses, spent a lot of time in the deep woods. But the series is really not about survival; that's how it begins, but by the time you reach The Return, it's begun to change to hard SF. I'm currently writing Defending Eden, which is not only hard SF, it has elements of space opera. The Wizards Series is about wish fulfillment. Who wouldn't want to find buried treasure, move huge objects, fly, and do in bad guys? With side journeys into saving lives and fighting wildfires? As for my novella, Hands, expect everything from grins to belly laughs. And then there's the stand-alone short story, Ants, which offers a different view of where the New Frontiers Series might have gone. One work-in-progress, two more in the pipeline, and a new home page: http//jacklknapp.com/home In other words, I'm nowhere near ready to retire!
Similar to the previous in the series. Plenty of setting the stage. I call it Social Angst. By the 60% point I was 'Depressed' - ready to read the last chapter just to see if Author Knapp would avoid the destruction of the solar system! 😨😭 Yes I enjoyed the book. Didn't care for the descriptions of the 'problems' and the 'Idiots' that we're surrounded by today. (I don't read dystopian books). I read for escape, hope & entertainment. 🤗 The good: minimal Profanity - didn't notice any. Only generic references to sex. Pretty clean book. Good editing too, only noticed two small errors. Thank you for the story Mr. Knapp!!!
According to the notes following this installment, the hard science ends and future installments will be more space opera. That’s a bit disturbing since I felt the relationships portrayed so far were not well considered or well played. I’m unsure it would worth my time to read further.
As for this installment, I found it only OK. The ending was loosely written with much of the final action only mentioned in passing, and mostly undefined. It feels like everything is over and no one is satisfied, certainly not me.
Finally the author Jack L. Knapp beefs up the tension with excellent twists and many problems to solve before it will be to late, one thing for sure the author imagination is working overtime and beautifully so !!!!
As usual Narrator Tom Lemnon does an awesome work wrapping it all into an excellent audio.
Mars is a great finish to a well written series. The continuity of characters and developing plot made it hard to pace my reading sessions. The author has decided this book will conclude his trilogy. Too bad! I would enjoy another book or two.
The first three books were hard science in the fiction books with a lot of political business going on, and the last two were more of a Space Opera. They were all action packed interesting entertaining stories.
