A collection of unique and sophisticated crochet designs!
Enjoy Yumiko Alexander's showcase of eighteen clean, sophisticated crochet designs. Her garments feature eye-catching construction based on very simple lines that come together in unexpected ways. Stitch patterns have central focus here, as the silhouettes or shapes are kept simple to emphasize the crocheted fabric. Yumiko's pieces are versatile enough that they can be dressed up or down according to your fancy.
Yumiko takes her inspiration from the natural world-tide-swept sand, shells, coral, shale rock formations, the colors of sunset. Her nature-inspired palette is brought to life using luscious yarns that are as pleasing to the hand as they are to the eye. These designs will appeal to crocheters seeking a more upscale look in their garments. Rustic Modern Crochet features designs in subtle earth tones and warm sunset hues that hold a cross-generational appeal.
I originally checked this book out of my local library because I have a penchant for collecting crochet patterns even though I didn't think I'd like most of them based on the title. However, I liked most of them so much that I bought my own copy. There are a few patterns that had me scratching my head, but most of them are very pretty and unique. I've made two of the patterns so far and they've both turned out great! I found them to be pretty easy and to turn out exactly like the pictures/patterns say they should. I would definitely recommend this book if you love crochet patterns!
From 18 designs this book had 8 scarves, 3 tops, 2 shrugs, 2 cowls, 1 hat, 1 pair gloves, 1 pair leg warmers. So, most patterns are for accessories. The garments are decidedly unconstructed, as shrugs characteristically are, and additionally the 3 tops are oversized. Even though the author says she doesn't often use lace weight yarn, her designs read as delicate. There are many different crochet techniques here, from an exploded granny square and pineapple lace to a filet crochet-type top. Beautiful book with plentiful photographs (so you can clearly see the pieces), schematics, and chart patterns. A great book for crochet inspiration.
I loved looking through this book. Every design in it is gorgeous. And while I'd love to try some of them, they look too time-consuming for me since they are worked with a light-weight yarn, using with a small hook, and because I have way too many projects to complete as it is. Still, and lot of time has gone into designing these and the completed work is beautiful. I enjoyed looking through them.
Most of the patterns were a bit too 1970's for my taste. I am making the Sand & Shells top for a birthday gift for someone who loved the pattern. So far I have only found one small problem. The pattern seems pretty straightforward otherwise.
Only 18 patterns but each one is unique and interesting. There's a little bit of a beachy theme, some have a hipster look, some look like you'd wear it sipping cocoa on a cabin porch in the mountains, and some have a fun urban look.
The book itself was a beautiful collection of … well … rustic and modern crochet patterns. I do love it when things are titled appropriately. Most of the patterns were large and technically complex sweaters and wraps, with this single exception of a one-skein chunky yarn project. It made for a great introduction to the book.
rustic modern crochet's: 18 designs are beautiful.
The patterns are illustrated well and easy to follow making a new piece for your wardrobe rewarding. Sadly, Rustic inspired by nature is more uptown than retired in the forest miles from town.
I love all her designs. I made the "driftwood" scarf and it was not easy exactly but the directions were clear and it turned out beautifully. I envy her creative abilities.
