I was very happy when I found out that Miss Hunter was expanding a story she began some time ago. I fell in love with the short story and was anxious to find out what happened to Eva and Ash. She does not disappoint. I cannot wait for book two, so I can find out what happens next.
I received a free copy of this book from Lady Amber's Book Tours in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of this review.
Crave by L.L. Hunter picks up one year after the end of the prequel novella. Ash is a college student and suffers from nightmares about murders and burning. When two girls show up in his life, Ash doesn’t know which to choose. One girl is beautiful, seductive, and intriguing while the other girl claims to know him and the past he can’t recall. So who does he trust?
I’ll be honest I struggled with this book. I enjoyed the prequel novella and while there were some glaring plot holes I was willing to forgive them because it was only 40 pages AND it caught my attention to read the rest of the series. However when I started Crave, I was disappointed. Ash had no memory of what had happened in the novella and he was just as clueless as he was in the beginning which meant the reader was also clueless and confused. I was completely lost! I didn’t understand what was going on. Add in some timeline issues and I was completely clueless…just like Ash.
Ash is still a likable character, though I can’t decide if I actually like him or just feel sorry for him. His life sucks. He’s having nightmares about the night of the murders that he was convicted for in the prequel but he has no memory of them occurring. Then there are Emily and Eva constantly in the picture. Emily (as the blurb says) is a Siren and even before that is revealed, the author does some great foreshadowing to point you to the obvious. She’s seductive and her agenda isn’t known. Eva, like Ash, has no memories but she can still remember him…confused yet?! She comes to the Human Realm to find him, to be with him, but the question remains why the were separated in the first place.
The plot was kind of all over the place, or maybe that’s just me. There were times where I would be reading and think I’d skipped a page, so I’d go back and realize I hadn’t missed anything. Then there were timeline issues where the character would say it happened then the next page it’s been three weeks or they’ve been traveling together for a month. Confusing!! The world-building was a little better though than it was in the prequel. The author got into the different realms within the paranormal world and Eva and Ash traveled to a couple of them.
Overall I wasn’t that impressed with this book. The romance was awkward, the timeline was off, and the differing POV was confusing. However the ending hooked me in to read the next in the series. Cliffhangers *shakes head* I cannot handle them! If you enjoy paranormal romance, urban fantasy, check out this series.
Crave is an amazing book. The story starts out with throwing you right in, no back story needed. I love that we didn't need a whole lot to understand what was going on. I loved the whole idea of the book, with all of the different mythical creatures mentioned.
I loved that the point of view changes throughout the story, but not too many times. We get to see what all 3 main characters think of everything happening, which was enjoyable. I loved meeting all of them. Ash, Emily, and Eva all coincide perfectly, and I love the idea of Ash and Eva together.
I really enjoyed how the story progressed. The book started off very normal like, and quickly turned into a fantasy world where things weren't as they are in the real world. I loved that there were so many different creatures involved in this book.
The book was really well written. I loved the story, and how it progressed. The book ends on such a big cliffhanger! I really want to know what happens next, and I look forward to reading the next book in the series, whenever it comes out. I have to give this book 5 out of 5 stars!
You know what you don't normally see in books? A love triangle where the boy has two girls veering for his attention. Oh, I'm sure there are books out there like that, but this is my first.
So the story surrounds Emily, Ash and Eva and one intense journey of love and discovery. Ash is a dragon heart. Eva is a dragon heart keeper. It's her job to protect and keep Ash safe, which should have been pretty simple, right? Except, she's gone and fallen in love with the guy, which is a huge no-no. So of course gets them into a heap of trouble.
Now I haven't read book one. I always recommend readers start with, well, book one, but I got through book two without difficulty. Ms. Hunter wove the story together flawlessly and effortlessly. I just love how she does that.
So grab your copy and snuggle down for one hell of a ride.

Crave reminds me of all my favourite fairy tale creatures growing up, it has mere folk, dragons, cute little foxes who aren’t what they seem, and lots more. I felt as though I were travelling through Wonderland, Atlantis and medieval England all in the same book. All of these realms seem to sit just below the surface of our reality.
There is a love triangle, battles, journey of discovery, and mystery and intrigue all jam packed into this story. It is set in the points of view of the three main characters Ash, Eva and Emily, and an extension of The Dragon Heart Keeper. I have not read the first book, but do not feel as though I am missing anything as everything is explained well enough by the author, and this book can be read as a standalone.
If all of the above sounds like your kind of read, then grab your copy today.
This book was really great, the way the author describes everything makes me feel like I'm in the shadows watching. I loved how the book was broken into the different characters point of view and you experienced the story through their eyes. I can't wait to read more of this series.
