I was more disappointed with this book in the Smithsonian series than I have been with others, which have garnered 4/5 stars from me. The reason is that there were significant information missing, which other information that I thought wasn't important was added in. For example, the book has no mention of Germans being remanded to internment camps or being forced to carry "papers" that Woodrow Wilson signed not only once, but twice in sets of regulations impacting the Civil Rights of legal German aliens. Something pretty important to be omitted.
This is an appealing format for middle grade readers. What it lacks details it makes up for in vast amounts of brief information and a good overview of the war.
