In this tale of wanton love, decadent seduction, and dangerous liaisons, we meet Alice—a quiet, meek woman who, at 29, has never been touched by a man, let alone experienced the piercing pangs of love’s bittersweet kiss upon the heart. Alice is obsessed with Greek Mythology, and early on, she resigned herself to the fact that Lachesis, the Fate who chooses our lot in life, destined her life to be one without love—that is until Erik, a mysterious admirer, surfaces.
Communicating at first solely online, Erik’s passionate poems and erotic love stories slowly break down Alice’s self-imposed wall of isolation. Throwing caution to the wind, they begin to share the most intimate of emails, awakening Alice’s innermost desires. She finds herself falling in love with Erik and in the possibility that he could be her one true love—her soul mate—despite the fact that they have never met in person.
Has Zeus finally heard her cries and granted Cupid, the offspring of Aphrodite, permission to hurl his arrow of love in Alice’s direction? Or, will she get caught up in love’s unscrupulous web of deception and deceit after the identity of her mysterious lover is revealed? How far will Alice venture to recapture love lost—real or imaginary? How far would you go?
All her life she has dealt with being awkward and socially outcast, even by her own family. Alice is an ungainly young woman who is quickly approaching thirty. She is consumed with her desire for physical and emotional love. There's a small hitch in her plan, she's a virgin and finds herself to be a bit uncoordinated when it comes to talking to others, especially men.
She's a an outcast not only in the work place, but also in her own family. The only true friend she has in her life is her friend Patty, who is an outgoing and confident woman who is constantly trying to get Alice out of her hole and live a more social and exciting life.
Socially and physically awkward she eventually reinvents herself with an amazing makeover. Even after she takes down all her profiles on her dating websites, she somehow gets an email from a man named Erik. Even though she doesn't know how he found her, she responds excitedly. They soon get o know each other through emails and soon Alice finds herself head over heels for Erik, even though they have yet to formally meet.
This story had an interesting plot and story line, but I found it was a bit dragged out for me. It seemed the book could have been summed up into a story that was much shorter and would have gotten the same concept across. I was dying for Alice and Erik to meet already and get on with what seems like will be an amazing romance, considering all the erotic emails they have been sending to each other.
What about Erik's emails? Am I the only one who thought he sounded a bit like a young teenager in today's times. He uses an insane amount of slang and words that are misspelled on purpose which I fin to be annoying in real life, let alone in a book that I'm reading.
My favorite part of this book was how much Alice's personality changes when she gains the confidence due to her new love interest. She finally starts to stand up to herself and make herself known as something more than her reputation.
Overall I would give this book a 4/5. The only real complaint I have about this book was how Erik's emails seemed to be too much like a young girl chatting with her friends online. Of course I'm not talking about the content, just his writing style.
Tickle me has all the ingredients to be one great romance. It is a mix between a solitary woman, her passion for Greek Mythology and a mystery man. A book that keep you in the edge until the last page.
Alice has lived in the shadows, always in the sidelines of life dreaming with finding happiness. A 29-year-old woman living in Alaska with only a cat as her roommate, Alice is the perfect heroin for this story. Her life gives a 180 degrees turn when she starts to get emails from a hot mystery guy.
Erik is the name of this unknown gentleman who appears from nowhere and seems like the perfect man. With his poems, stories and romantic emails, he will drag Alice more and more into unfamiliar territory.
The story has its highs and lows. The base of it is intelligent, credible and quite real. Nowadays it’s really easy to stay in touch with any person around the world. So, a relationship that starts on-line feels real and interesting.
Alice’s evolution is one of the greatest things in the book. See her become a strong woman, confident and embracing her persona makes a good reading. And read the changes in her relationship with the world is a high point because we see a woman who used to be just a number, a name, a colleague, a work partner, transforming into a successful worker. This is really great to read.
However, there we some parts that were slow and some of the choices Alice made were hard to understand. For a woman who never takes chances, she takes the emails very well. And for me it was easy to discover Erik’s true identity. There are some keys during the book that lead you to the answer.
Another character that made the difference was Patty, the crazy best friend that helps Alice in this new world. She has a personality that is annoying at times but you like her anyway.
The ending was a good thing. It was not what I expected (specially the epilogue). Patty's “secret” left me speechless and the last pages were really breathtaking.
Overall, a good, solid romance with good characters and very well written.
(I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for an honest review).
Alice is your not-so-normal 29 year old heroine living in her house only accompanied by a feline mammal. Being overlooked and pushed down by her family and society, Alice becomes lonely and finds her life insecure, unsatisfying and boring. There is one friend, though, Patty, who tries to get Alice to live her life. Even when none of that works, emails from a stranger completely changes Alice's life.
Erik's emails, although, surprises Alice at first, later makes her to fall in love with him and changes her personality and outlook in a very good way. The mails were erotic stories, poems and stuff. And its everything Alice's fantasized about. Erik has proved to be Alice's motivational factor, that could create amazing transformation in her. The couple still didn't meet yet and the ending is something I didn't expect.
I truly can understand Alice's problems and attitude, what with being feeling inferior all your life without any support from friends and family. I suppose that is enough to make a person shy away from the society and of course, there is no surprise that she is a virgin. Each person needs a motivation factor in their life - something or someone. I felt so happy when Alice met hers. The shift is fantastic.
There are some flaws in the novel. The first one is that the fetish focussed in the novel may not appeal to everyone and actually I found myself skipping some parts of them. Second, there is a lot of dragging. The author could have given me a short novel and I still would have enjoyed it..there is no need of lengthing the pages without much information.
Erotic romance with a different concept, that can be shortened to increase the enjoyment!
Monica Bouvier surprised me in the novel "Tickle Me" with many elements that I would not have associated in an erotic fiction. Bouvier's characters are well developed and as a reader you really have to pay attention to this plot from beginning to end to get the full concept. Tickle Me was a good novel and kept me mildly interested. This novel reads kind of like a soap opera, there is drama, sex, intimacy backstabbing and a sense of feeling that all is not well with the office workers. I did quite enjoy how Bouvier included office politics within the story line it made the story have a more realistic feel to it. At points the reader could identify with the main character Alice and who hasn't had or wanted a tough/bad "A" friend like Patty. I reiterate the character setup was superb.
Although I thought the novel was entirely too long for the plot, it was not a bad read and I would venture into reading some more of Bouvier's works.Tickle Me put a definite spin on erotic fiction and was very well rounded novel despite the wordiness.
Tickle Me by Monica Bouvier is a romance novel that in parts have you at the edge of your seat. The story was interesting in most parts and I say it is interesting in "most parts" because the story is very long and it seemed to drag in some parts but the "interesting parts" make up for it. I just want you to be aware the pace is not even flowing and this is a long story but hang with it, you won't be sorry.
Alice is a twenty nine year old who loves Greek Mythology and lives in Alaska with her cat. She has never felt the passions of love and seemed to resign herself to that her fate is to live life without love. She had a low self-esteem and seemed like she was on the side-line of life just dreaming about becoming a participant. Then she started to get emails from a mysterious guy named Erik. As time goes by the emails become much more personal and romantic and all the while Alice not only falls in love with Erik, she changes from being on the side-line to a participant full force. The change in Alice's whole being from this depressed, low self-esteemed person throughout the story was amazing and refreshing to me.
Although I really didn't find the emails and some of the actions that romantic or erotic (to me it's more of a torture) I understand where Alice is and her views most of the times. I can tell you that her taste and mine are two different things but even so I was able to really get into the story and connect with her. I didn't find Erik so romantic nor such a prize even in the beginning. However, the important thing is Alice did and with a stretch of my imagination, it was believable. After all, I did find my husband on the computer so that part wasn't hard to believe at all and how many times has someone made a decision that made you wonder, "what was she thinking"?
The story was not all fun and games and had its share of 'problems' of not only everyday life but also with people which also added to the believability of the story. The other characters in the story are all developed enough for their roles. Throughout the story some things didn't make sense but toward the end of the book it all comes together and the ending itself was really something I didn't expect.
To sum it up, it was a good story even though it was dragged out and I would recommend it to those who like the erotic (or maybe I should say "exotic") romance.
I'm a little torn on this novel. I really enjoyed the first 3/5 of the book... then I ended up bored because it just kept going and I felt like I was going nowhere. I ended up skipping probably 1/5 of the book and jumping right to the part where Erik & Alice meet in person. The mental journey that you take with the main character - transitioning from thinking of herself as a no one to someone who is desirable to at least one person - is interesting. It was a perspective on life that I don't read about often. Then you end up with the online relationship with Erik and it seems too good to be true. I never really found anything Erik was saying during the actual "conversations" attractive - I mean, a guy who says "hehe" and "ticklezzzz" just isn't attractive. Plus the crazy amount of smiley faces and such he uses in his emails is a little non-attractive to me. But his stories - oh man - they're intriguing. It's almost like you're about to enter a BDSM scene - spanking or one of the lighter bondage scenes - but then... it turns out to be tickling... It's a little... odd I guess I could say - but fun to read. I'm an insanely ticklish person so someone handcuffing me to the bed and having their "tickling" way with me - not something I'd look forward to & definitely not something that would get me all hot and bothered. Even though some of that sounds negative, it's just personal thoughts. The end... well... the end takes you completely off guard. Looking back, it made it quite interesting to re-read some of the conversations. It shed an entirely new light on the entire novel. Loved that spin on things. overall, 3 stars - I liked it okay.
OK. So I finished this book last night and am still disturbed by it. I have not given this book a star rating only because I don't know exactly what to rate it.
The book was about 200 pages to long. I liked the concept of the story but it dragged. I did start out liking the book but about half way through I just couldn't take much more. I stopped reading some of the 'fantasy' stories and poems because it was all much of the same.
I did not expect the two cliffhangers at the end. The part with Patty help explained why she was acting so weird.
The cliffhanger with Alice, well as I continued to read I figured that one out. It also made a lot of the book make more sense. Throughout the book I noticed certain things that were not lining up with prior parts of the story, but it all made sense at the end. However, it also made me question some of the book and what was real.
I am still rather bothered by this book after a nights sleep. Bothered to the point I think I am almost angry with it! Like I said I think the concept of the story was great, but I had a hard time getting into the book with the way the story played out.
Alices' first bite of love and desire is Eric who persues her with a passion. Thier story will keep you on the edge of your seat. Just when you think you have it figured out...that is not the case. I did find the novel a bit wordy, and I almost put it down, but it picked back up, so I'm glad I didn't. All in all a good romance that will take you by surprise. I won this book on www.librarythings.com
I just do not know what to say about this book. I stuggled trying to read this book. this was do far to the left I just do not know what to say. just bizarre. review is totally confusing and misleading
