Created by some of DC and Marvel’s best comic book artists, The Epic Bible transports readers through a visual journey of Scripture. From Eden to eternity, this stunning hardcover edition engages even the most reluctant readers with brilliant and dramatic full-color graphic art. Packed with action and powerfully illustrated The Epic Bible brings a fresh lifelike view of Creation, the story of the Israelites, Jesus’ life on earth, and the early church.
Readers of graphic books will love this new vibrant look at God’s Word. “Suitably sophisticated, this new retelling of the biblical story as a graphic novel serves its subject matter and its intended audience―teens and young adults―well, epically!” ―Diane Stortz
I’m a huge Marvel DC fan, so this had me at hello :) My kids are actually in 3rd &4th grade and love the Epic Bible! Some of the graphics are a bit graphic (not complaining at all! Just throwing that out there because my kids are younger than the recommended age). The creators did an incredible job bringing the Bible to life in such a beautiful way. We had to set an every other day schedule for my kids to read it because they began bickering over who got it. Lol that’s a win! And I’ll probably just buy another. We have had more discussions with the kids on stories they have heard before but it’s just finally came to life for them. Having my kids grasp and get excited about it is priceless. Will they memorize verses in this? No. But I’d much rather have the stories sink deep into their hearts than them gloss over text or regurgitate words they don’t fully grasp yet any day. I highly recommend this Bible for your upper grade kiddo (up to adult because I’m loving it too!).
As a former Christian, I thought it would be interesting to revisit The Bible given my current view on God, Christianity, and everything mentioned in The Bible. I never would have felt compelled to reread the actual Bible itself, but a condensed graphic novel version of The Bible really intrigued me.
What sold me on reading this was the art. Had it been mediocre, I would not have been drawn to reading any of this, much less the whole thing, but the artists who worked on this adaption really did a great job; it's exactly the kind of art I seek out when reading graphic novels.
I really don't think a graphic novel adaption of The Bible could have been executed much better. Despite having portions which drag on and do not create the opportunity for new and interesting art to accompany the text, I felt more engaged reading this than I ever did reading The Bible back when I was a Christian. There are some sections that reminded me why I no longer hold the beliefs I used to, some of which I had already considered before and some which I had not, so it served the purpose I was hoping. Overall, it was interesting revisiting The Bible in this medium with a more objective viewpoint, seeing it simply as an old text rather than a holy text. While I no longer consider The Bible to be either infalible or something that should dictate my life, I felt compelled to give this book four stars, as I did manage to finish the entire thing, something I wasn't sure I would do when starting it, and I enjoyed the time I did spend reading it.
I read the promotional sampler of this. The publisher donated copies for my Stags Read distribution. I will distribute them to our local churches to distribute to youth.
Pretty typical graphic novel retelling of the Bible. I was surprised at the nativity story-- most human version of the events I've ever seen. Tender and sweet and distinctly human.
This was an excellent visual Bible. I thought it was just as good as the Action Bible. I'm still using it for devotions, God definitely has worked through it in my life.
A visual masterpiece (I just wish two more well-known stories were contained, Daniel in the lion’s den and the wise man building on rock instead of sand).
