"The best investment you will ever make is in yourself and your career" ..
^ Pg 20 and 34 were worth the $20 this book cost alone.
Unique perspective I didn't think about. Real estate or Shares? Why not invest in your education and work performance, because a promotion is much more likely in 7 years versus seeing any return on stocks in that time, if that makes sense.
Anyway, a v good book, also better than the $1.5k Uni elective I took lol. This is all you need. 2nd half can be a bit heavy for beginners such as myself, but no doubt will come back to the glossary/definitions in future.
3 Stars. It’s a good book, a few parts I don’t agree with for someone looking for a quick-start (like Options). I didn’t realize it was an Australian book (US reader here) until I had to figure out what a superattuation was. There were clues earlier, but never specifically spelled out that discussion of investments were based on the Australian market, not American market. That might’ve been helpful. Despite that it was a generally good book if you want to know more about different opinions on personal investing.
A financial book about investing which assumes basic financial literacy. Discusses the psychology of investing and gets the reader to consider their reason for and their investing style. Delves into more complex share selection principals in the last few chapters, with the majority of the information international.
There were a couple of little errors that the editors missed and a section or two that went above my head (i.e. they need to be dumbed down further). Overall, I'm hoping that it will inspire friends and family to get started investing and enjoy compounding returns and passive income in the future! I've passed my copy on to my brother.
This is definitely the best finance book I have read so far. It covers the fundamentals clearly without being patronising and then moves on to more advanced information. I got a lot out of reading this and am feeling much more confident in my investing future.
Good book for people who want to get into investing but don't know where to start, with an insightful Australian focus. At times the book can become to oversimplified / over-personal for the genre its in, but overall worth a read for those wanting to begin investing.
Great start to help people like myself understand how finances, investing and stocks work. This is a good beginner level to get people started and Glen and Nick give good insights to things to keep an eye out for and problems they faced and the risks with each investment which is great so people understand it isn’t all just beneficial and there are risks to consider before investing in efts or stocks. Glen and Nick also have podcasts and websites for readers that want to learn more and understand the investing would better. Great book I’ll keep for myself and others I know that want to start in investing as it is a great start for anyone
