Mama's Brood #2

Unleashing The Storm

Rate this book
It all starts with a feeling.Something isn’t right – hasn’t been since love found its way inside Mama’s Brood – gets more wrong the moment Lucas ‘Big Country’ Beaumont is captivated by the raw sensuality of Stormy Redmond.Never one to be controlled by anything as deceptive as a woman’s nature, Big Country relies on a tried and true system to ensure his dealings with women remain relegated to mutually beneficial transactions that end when he says they end. Or so it was…before that feeling. Now, faced with the consequences of one unfortunate decision, and a past that will no longer be ignored, Big Country struggles to contain the truth of his nature lest it destroys everyone he cares about, including Stormy, the one woman capable of showing him why a man would be willing to die for something as foolish as love.

Romance, fantasy, and horror may seem to be a strange combination for some, but I love reading these genres as much as I love writing in them.

I can't imagine my writing existing without elements of darkness and light.

My perfect life: The Sacred Trio, good health, loved ones, reading, writing, travel, adventure, and simply sitting down with someone and sharing who we are.

After the first book still being one of my fave books of all time I am seriously so disappointed with this one! Big Country was so annoying and really not sexy at all and the female lead (I can’t even remember her name) was just bland and immature. She kind of reminded me of Kristen Ashley’s female leads who in age are mature but in thinking are like teenage girls. They both probably magically change later on and become interesting but to be honest I just can’t be bothered to find out....that’s how much they both annoyed me. Zeus and Sabrina rock and Big Country and What’s-her-name seriously sucked for me. I’m still not giving up on the author though as her first book was great and I have hopes next book will be more like that. Oh and seriously the whole calling his d**k “Bubba” was just yuck!

Another fun and laugh out loud read from Ms. Shay Rucker!!

I had pretty much given up this series. I read the first edition of book 1 back in 2015, so I’ve been waiting 3 and half years for book 2. I had no idea it’s been out since February!! I could have saved myself 6 months of waiting.

To my M/M reading GR friends who also enjoy reading M/F, I would say this series reminds me of the M/F version of A.E. Via M/M books. So if you enjoy those books, give this series a try.

The best way I can describe the Mama's Brood series is to say it’s about group of vigilantes who kill people who need killing.

Except:

-LOL OTT entertainment
-Very diverse cast with colorful, unique personalities (I fell in love with each and every one of them)
-Women with backbone who give as good as they get
-Great writing/authentic dialogue (I did notice some minor editing issues, but they were not distracting)

Each book features a different couple, but the books should be read in order.

4 Stars for Big Country and Stormy’s story. The bar was set high with book 1. I can’t imagine any of the other books being as good as Zeus and Sabrina’s story. Just sayin’…

I hope there’s a book in the works for Bride. That’s one scary, little woman, and I want to know what demons she’s fighting.

It's finally here! The long awaited follow up to 'On the Edge of Love' Book 1.

This is Big Country and Stormy's Story, but it wouldn't mean anything without Zeus. The man that started it all for me. There is simply no comparison to Zeus so I won't even try because no Brood member can surpass or ever take his place in my eyes.

Big Country (BC) Lucas Beaumont is a man prone to having arrangements with the opposite sex who reside in the role of pay to play. It's the no strings, no games and no falling love aspects he likes. The arrangements work fine until he is confronted with one of the sexiest women he has ever encountered. He wants her and he means to have her -- however, he has to do away with team competition first.

When we encounter BC he's brought a one night stand home and given her the orgasm of her young life. Now, she's in love. So in love that the lines of killer and stalker are blurred for her. Her assignment is to kill Zeus and Sabrina for taking the life of Maxim Kragen, heir apparent of The Consortium. A man that deserved to die and very, very slowly.

Zeus is well aware that the danger is still out there and he makes it plain that they must be prepared, even Sabrina's niece Brianna who he is teaching (his future mini-me) to defend herself over Skype. That scene is hilarious!

Stormy is the perfect match for Lucas. She didn't cower in fear despite his big presence and the fear he instills in some people. She gave as good as she got and she owned him in that scene in her office. Lucas decides he wants to one up the competition for a place in her bed so he makes a midnight in person call -- way after midnight and they burn the sheets up. They decide they need a contract or should I say rules on what should or shouldn't happen while they're together. Rule No. 1 ... don't fall in love, which is the funniest thing that Stormy has heard in a long time because she has no inclination to fall in love ever again after a disastrous marriage.

Lucas has issues and triggers related to his childhood, which when revealed would have destroyed a lesser person. When he's pushed to the very edge of his sanity, he experiences a psychotic break and it takes nearly the entire Brood Family to control him.

When Zeus bears witness to Lucas' episode, he had this to say: “And I’m supposed to be the crazy one?” Zeus asked. Priceless.

I loved the sense of camaraderie and family. Most of all I loved that we were able to catch up with Zeus and Sabrina. We'll be seeing more of them plus Brianna in future books. This bunch of rag tag hard-core team more than proved that when a member of the family is in trouble -- it's The Brood to the rescue or die tryin'.

Highly Recommended: Read It!

YAY!!!!

What a great next installment. I love Lucas and Stormy together. I also love what I believe is next to come with Sabrina and Zeus with Briana in France. Action, hot scenes, strong women, and wicked humor makes this series a winner. I also love that she touched on some serious issues regarding mental health. I love that! Ms. Rucker did it again. My only piece of constructive criticism is that she needs to invest in a better editor. There were mistakes here and there that should have been caught. With that said, I was still able to stay present in the book and laugh my head off.

Another great read in the Mama's Brood series!!!!! The feels: the laughter, double takes and the cries with the larger than life, Lucas Beaumont aka "Big Country" & good girl, Stormy made for a memorably engaging 5 star read!

Still my favorite cray-cray hero in this amazing series is Zeus!

A must read series with thumbs up and wagging!

OMG... I just loved this book!!!

The story was well plotted and executed, full of action and drama, chocked full of humor throughout. Mama's Brood is a special bunch of misfits who rely on each other for their different specialties when they are out in the field. They have formed a family like cohesiveness with real concern for each other on and off the job. This story also dealt with people whose thinking was one bubble off center and failing to see reality.

When Lucas "Big Country" Beaumont first saw Stormy "Sienna Red" Redmond, he thought she was as beautiful as moonlight in the bayou. His sterile interactions with women before hand was only needed to scratch an itch and satisfy "Big Bubba's" need. He thought he would get his Sienna Red to agree to sign one of his love contracts and his need would be satisfied but "Big Bubba" had other plans.

Stormy Redmond had been divorced for three years and her girlfriends kept trying to push her into getting back out there in the world. I just loved reading their conversations with each other. They were true BFFs with their candid talk with each other. When she met Big Country at Mama's bar, she did not let him treat her any kind of way. She refused to be just another playthang. She wanted their relationship on her terms too and refused to tailor her life around another man like her ex did her. She was not ready for a relationship per se, but that first time together had them both reconsidering. Their erotic scenes together was on fiyah, better than Fifty Shades fiyah, IMHO. Big Country's Sienna Red was the only woman he allowed himself to fall in love with. She was the only woman that soothed his "blue light" that tortured him since childhood. She was the first woman to truly have his back without wanting anything in return but his love. She was the first woman to truly love him.

My only problem I have with the author's writing was some French Creole/ Cajun terms in the story. She used the word "chi" throughout as a term of endearment. What should have been used instead is the word "cher" (masc.) or "chere" (fem.), pronounced without the hard "r". Being of South Louisiana Creole descent, I just could not let this one slide as the term is used in my family all the time. With that said, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It is now added to my to be re-read list. I laughed from the beginning to end, especially the Teat and Meat scene and the resort scene. Great job Shay! I can't wait to see what else members of Mama's Brood will be up to in the future.

Jesus. I think I need a cigarette!

The author did her character Big Country a solid. Big and Stormy's relationship was..well... Big and Stormy. They were two large personalities that really filled the book to overflowing. I enjoyed the hell out of them and just how wild and exuberant they were.

I think I was expecting something a little more fraught/angsty like with Zeus & Sabrina. But this ain't it. Thinking on it, the tone of the first book was very much like Zeus's personality: deadly, stealthy, and intense. But the tone of this one was all Big Country. And it makes sense. There were some moments that touched on some of Big Country's past tragedy (all of Mama's Brood are damaged in some way), but overall this was an adventure. This book was funny and raucous and bordered on hugely inappropriate -- just like Big Country himself.

The writing was great, it crackled and sizzled. And sometimes you had no idea what was going to come out of Big Country's or Stormy's mouths next or what they were going to do next. They were a hoot.

Fans of Shelly Laurenston would like this, I think. I got a very Laurentson vibe from this between the interplay between Stormy and her friends to the big cast of characters all of whom were just as personality filled as the two main characters to the whacked out humor in places.

Really enjoyed this.

I loved the first book so much and couldn't wait for Unleashing the storm, but it was lacking and underwhelming.
Big country wasn't as enticing and fascinating as zeus (him calling his dick bubba didn't help) and I wasn't convinced by his relationship with storm.
This book had too many point of views taking away from the central romance so suspence and love story wasn't as well balanced as "On the edge of love".
Disappointed by this book but I will read the next hoping to find this magic back.

NOT A REVIEW, JUST A PERSONAL NOTE.

Save this for a better mood, lol.
Things in the sample...
-Opens with graphic bad oral/ fingering between the male lead and random woman
-Male lead goes into detail about his life as a hobbyist and quotes his favorite prostitute
-Female lead gets enough POV time to say that she's been celibate for 3 years
-ML mistakes FL for a prostitute, refers to her by her skin color even after hearing her name

Things to remember...
-ML is going to be a pain because child abuse
-FL should be a complete badass

Well, that was a ride. Plenty of highlighted quotes that moved me. And some really funny parts. Strong tension throughout, too.

I struggled with other elements, though. All the god stuff was just way too much for me. A couple other things niggled at me and I didn’t feel this was as tight as the first book. But a ride, overall.

The h's introduction, in the beginning, was really bad. I did not like her. Several times throughout the book, it is mentioned that she is a social worker who is licensed but we never see her do ANY social work. The villain was so silly as well while the H was just ok. I still think the couple in the first book was better. The story was messy and I was disappointed with the characters.

More of the Brood

This book is the second installation of Mama’s Brood. This story is about Big Country and his love interest Stormy. Most of the Brood show up or we hear about them. Cizan is back in the country and he seems fascinating. Is it wrong of me that while I really enjoyed Big Country, Stormy and their respective families I was really way more interested in the times Zeus appeared? I could really read a whole new story about him. Will Sabrina ever make up the bed? Asking for a friend.
Anywho, the action in this story is a direct connection to the action from the previous story. I idly wondered when Zeus killed Kragen would it end there. It did not. His father and some mysterious religious leader has sent an assassin to kill Sabrina and Zeus. Unfortunately for the assassin, she is sidetracked by some Big Country loving....and Bubba wasn’t even in the game. The action and the assassin take us to a long awaited reckoning with Big Country and his beyond nasty family.
Because of his mother, Big Country has a Disassociative disorder. Stormy helps him cope but one of the funniest lines is when Zeus asks ....so I am the crazy one?
The story ends with the assassin taken care of and Big Country’s family in jail. This was an awesome story and I won’t try to tell it all. I really hope that books 3, 4, and maybe 5 are in the works. At least Lynx and Cizan???

Okay I almost felt like I needed to re-read the first book because it's been so long. But oh boy was I in for a treat with this one. Shay Rucker please don't ever leave us for so long again! Big Country was a hoot and a half!! And Stormy was a heroine worthy of standing on her own and right beside him.
Lucas Beaumont is a man determined to let a good time stay a good time without all the messiness that romantic relationships bring. But until he meets Stormy Redman, his Sienna Red woman, does he believe that maybe a good time can last a little longer than one night between the sheets. And Stormy is on her way to reinventing herself after a divorce and a career change. So when she makes eyes with this larger than life slick country talking Brood member, she thinks about giving him just one night. That is until he mistakes her for a hooker.
But Big Country isn't deterred, but trouble is about to rain down as past and his family are causing trouble on his grandparents farm. Not to mention Zues and Sabrina are the targets for revenge as Kragen contracts a hit on them through an unknown organization called The Shepard's Order. And through it all Stormy rides it out with him, unveiling the secrets and ugly truths of what made him the man he is.

I'm short I loved it, and it is a do not miss read from Ms. Shay!!!!!!!

Send me a Mama Brood Boy

Okay I've been anxiously waiting for the second book since reading Zeus and Sabrina and I must say the wait was worth it. I fell in love with the first book because Shay's books step out the box when reading an interracial romance. This book is so much more. Crazy good more. This is about Big country and Stormy. Omg attraction like no other set Big Country off when he meets Stormy in a bar. I love the dialogue between the two because Stormy was the right woman for this alpha and yeah Big Country is all alpha. This book has a good storyline that books you immediately with the violence and vivid sex scenes. I devoured this book just as quickly as I did the first. I'm only hoping we don't have to wait so long for the next book in the series. Grab this book if you're looking for drama with an ex, an obsessed woman, and members of a crazy cult going after the Brood.

Still loved it.

I have been waiting SOOOOOOOOOOO long for another book and I’m not disappointed. When I saw it for sale, my exact words were: “ YES, B***H, YES!”
There were some issues, there was some repetition in the beginning. Descriptions of things changed, little things like the color of his boots from grey to tan. “For all intents and purposes” was used over and over again. And there were issues with your and you’re I think only once or twice though. And some punctuation. Even with that it was a pleasure to read. Ok one thing I didn't like was how stormy was one second a LCSW but then there was talk of medical school , Clinical psychologists have a doctoral education so maybe that's what they were going for? It volleys in the story, but she made no attempt to help Cornelius, odd because life long abuse was evident. But I digress. I would have loved if stormy’s dad was someone the brood was a little intimidated by but still. I recommend it.

I loved reading this book a lot. It was such a great read. Big Country Lucas Beaumont was something and someone to know. On the one hand Lucas is this funny loving good nature guy. But the moment he meets Stormy Saint Claire Redmond. Big Country goes into the rage that he can't control.

Stormy is a woman that is the right woman for Big Country. Everything that Lucas tried to shocked Stormy with. Stormy girl just rolled with it. Didn't run from anything. Especially Lucas's crazy family. What his mother did to him as a child. She wouldn't woken up.

I'm just so glad that Stormy was as strong as she was to go toe to toe with Lucas. That after all the Lucas had gone through in his life that he didn't lose who he is. The Big Country Boy thing he has. Stormy and Lucas were perfectly smart matched couple...

Big Country😜

In the Big Country....dreams stay with you....like a lover's voice on a Mountain Top....yeah...that's from a 80's song.....and Big Country Lucas brought Bubba out to play.....thought he could di#k down Sienna Red and she would run with her tail between her legs.....boy was he wrong.....she came prepared...butt plug and all....she made Big Country sing and explode like Mt. Vesuvius.....I waited for over 2 years for the 2nd book from Shay...patiently....no ...not patiently....I almost gave up...almost....please don't let me wait another 2 years for Lynx's story....he's next right....

Big Country is Bae

This was sooooo worth the wait! I was looking forward to Big Country 's story since he told Zeus in The Edge of Love "if you throw another knife at me, imma filled you full of so many holes, you gone think your nationality is Swiss!" This chemistry between Stormy and Lucas...whew chile! Stormy laid down the law from the jump and so did he. Together were hilariously dirty, both strong willed and both willing to go to bat each other. That Delilah was a murderous ding bat..totally off her rocker. Wonder whose story will be next so we can get Kragen wiped off the face of the planet

Absolutely brilliant, electronic worth the wait...Bravo Shay!!!

I loved from the start of the book to the finish, this book has outshine the first and that was a brilliant five star plus read too. Big Country aka Lucas Beaumont was phenomenal, putting him with Stormy was the only woman who could have as she added substance to him.

This book is one of my favourites for this year, I loved every word written!!!! I look forward to reading more from Ms Rucker as she is one of the most talented authors I've had the pleasure in reading, her writing is exceptional and brings your, mind body and soul into her world she has created.

Better Than Happy Hour 🍷

I am very stingy with 5 star ratings and even more so when it comes to reviews but this, this right here, more than deserved it. What can I say, it just keeps getting better. Book 1 with Zeus and Sabrina was hot, but Lucas and Stormy is fire. I laughed through this whole book. Lucas is a hot damn mess with his ridiculousness and Stormy used her no BS attitude and class to reel him in and down a notch. The suspense alone had me glued to my kindle and bypassing social happy hour.

The short glance into religious fanaticism or cult is very eye-opening.

I hope Lynx is next

Big Country tamed, I didn't see that coming!

It has been a minute since we've visited this crew of Mama's but man it was so worth the wait. He thought he had a plan to keep Stormy away from his bestie Lynx but all along Mama and his bestie had a plan for him. That plan was Stormy. I loved seeing all the terms of the "contract" go to the wayside. As with the first book two was filled with suspense and laughter but most of all love. Mama's Brood captured me with book one now with book two I am hooked. Excellent job. Looking forward to the next, hopefully it will be on Lynx.

I AM HERE FOR ALL OF IT!

Ms. Rucker has woven a story of suspense and hilarity with the most unhinged group of people...and I am here for all of it!

Big Country and Stormy (much in the same way of Zeus and Sabrina) brought a special brand of crazy to balance each other out. I like the story development, character growth and the over arching big bad I'm looking forward to learning more about (and ultimatley being dispensed of) by the end of the series.

Bring on Book 3! Ms. Rucker you are doing an excellent job!

Brilliant Romantic Suspense

Thoroughly enjoyed this. Cleverly woven storyline with its cast of characters, twists and turns, humour and suspense. Big Country is entertaining and downright comical and he and Stormy are perfectly matched. The Mama’s Brood series has become a sure fire addiction for me. Ms Rucker’s writing style is crisp and exhilarating and this book had me captivated from the beginning paragraph. These books are binge worthy and I highly recommend. Thank you Ms Rucker for another charming read.

Big Country and Stormy

I loved Big Country and Stormy's intial encounter. The men of the Brood are no joke and so far so are the women they fall in love with. It was good catching up with Sabrina and Zesus. Big Country's parents were horrible people and should've never been anyone's parents. They really messed him up. I'm glad Stormy stuck by him though. I can't wait to see which member is next to fall in love.

Well, Now!

Sigh. I would not have predicted Big Country’s as the next story in this series but it works so well! The narrative connects with the first of this series yet is so distinctive and digs deep into his family of origin. The verbal bayou, Deep South mannerisms resonate with my own family’s Alabama roots, and I enjoyed many a belly laugh at the dialogue Ms. Rucker skillfully employed. That sexy scene outside of the bar in the rain, though! Whew!
