Fans of Enders game or Ready Player One will find VEG a welcome companion, being predicated upon the idea of a fascinating and attainable future. When Charles Sanders, the inventor of the revolutionary game VEG, dies of unknown circumstances, a catalyst occurs, awakening heroes and revealing villains. Follow four characters on their journey to save or destroy humanity as they ride the waves of code that engulf our planet. VEG (Virtual Earth Grid) an augmented reality game brings all of their separate worlds crashing together to reveal the terrible truth. Will their haunting pasts lay waste to their future or will hope prevail and save our world? This book is written from the future documented by different media sources and personal journals to unfold the events of the past.
VEG is an ode to gaming culture that manages to captivate its reader with thoughtful characters and a twisted dystopian future. It reads like a cross breeding of Pulp Fiction and Ender's Game. Despite its slower start, VEG grows with each chapter and draws its reader deeper and deeper into the fully fleshed out universe Mr. Nims has created in his mind's eye. A terrific story that leaves you longing for more.
Virtual Earth Grid (V.E.G) contains the seeds of a fascinating concept that would truly transform the way our society would interact with its technology. The characters leap off the page and like the Oscar Award winning film "Crash," the protagonists are brought together in the most surprising of ways for the final blow-out scenes. The novel reveals just how far a game could take us, perhaps even revitalize us and in a direction we may not expect. I liken V.E.G. to the movie the "Matrix", only a much more realistic version, that may occur in the not-to-distant future, where gaming technologies collide with battles over the fate of humanity. The book practically reads itself with the action and intrigue - you can't put it down. I recommend to anyone who likes Sci Fi or just wants a good book to get lost in and probably laugh, cry, and bite your nails along the way.
What a great book! An intriguing story that even complete non-gamers like me will find captivating. Being told from the perspectives of various well elaborated characters, the story is very dynamic and makes you feel like you really are part of the world that is being dramatically changed by modern technology. The whole story - intertwined with many cool hints to what the not-too-distant future could be like - is so good to read that it will make you postpone everything you do just so you could read the next chapter.
Not a big fan of the science fiction genre, but decided to give it a try. I read several books a month and this book was a refreshing break from some of the monotonous, cookie cutter books I read. I believe the author has stumbled onto a storyline that has yet to be tried. I read this book in one day, it was the hard to put down and the plot just flowed from character to character. Highly recommend this book and can't wait to see what the author dreams up next.
Wow, great book. Found it randomly through someone that liked RPO. The author has got to be a little twisted. Parts of this book are not for kids. It has young adult writing but the story telling is pretty on point. I wish the book had a little more meat, but honestly solid book. I liked it just as much as I liked "Ready Player One." They both have pros and cons but where one is strong the other is weak and vice versa.
Ernest Cline and Zachery Nims must have been sleeping together when writing VEG and Ready Player One. They have many similarities. VEG appears to be a realistic depiction of where technology will take us with the new release of Pokémon Go. Loved the chapters with Mr. Smith as sick as that sounds. The story is hard to follow at some points but ties together brilliantly in the end. Has this author written anything else?
I love this book. Sprinkle a bit of Ender's Game here, a bit of Ready Player One there, and you get this wonderful adventure taking place in a future where augmented reality reigns supreme. Gamers are the fittest people in society, since the best treasures are hidden in the hardest to reach corners of the real-life Earth.
I can honestly say this novel was tough to put down. The flow is beautiful and cinematic to the minds eye. I enjoy reading science fiction and this book is up there with one of the greats. You'll fall in love with the group of friends who battle and problem solve their way though the marvelous future world in this novel.
As an avid gamer, this was the first book I've read that really spoke in a language of its own. I enjoyed the mention of games and bosses I've personally faced. My only negative would be that the book was not long enough! I would definitely recommend it to anyone, especially if you have a gaming background.
This is a great book! VEG (Virtual Earth Grid) is the not-too-distant future, where virtual reality finally gets everyone off of their screens and back into the world- for better or worse. If you liked Ender’s Game, Ready Player One, Snow Crash- you will love this book. It is the perfect fast-paced read that you won’t be able to put down. Mr. Smith is probably my favorite bad guy yet…
The first chapter is slow but give it time, the book draws you in leaving you with questions that need answers at the end of each chapter…Excellent futuristic look at today’s socioeconomic problems…Leaves me wanting more.
I enjoy everything that Zach has written. This book keeps you engaged from page 1, I didn't want to put it down! I would definitely recommend. Can't wait to see what he comes up with next.
Great book!!! It started a little slow as it was giving you a background on everything and then takes off. Following the 4 friends through their adventure was great and you feel like the 5th person in all of it. There was a couple times when I pictured that I was their with them and just imagining what they were seeing. I highly recommend this book to people who like fantasy adventure but with the possibility of it becoming reality in the near future. The author has a very creative mind and I look forward to more books from him.
