Sixteen-year-old June Bae may very well be your typical high school student, but the Rose Cross Academy is not your typical high school. Instead of history assignments and English papers, June trudges through Alchemy mixes and Demonology homework. His sophmore year in the Dreamer program at the Rose Cross Academy is just as predictable as last year, starting off with the standard spring visits to rid the city of paranormal and demonic infestations from civilian nightmares- spring cleaning, the Academy calls it. But June finds out the hard way that some nightmares don't want to be cleaned, when one of those nightmares drags him into the world of demons -a world known simply as Below.
Carissa 'Rissa' Renae was born in 1977 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. She grew up in the countryside, with the forests and fields her only true friends... because she had an annoying little brother, and her other friends just lived too damn far away to visit.
She moved to Calgary, Alberta after graduating high school, laid down roots, and never looked back. She graduated with a degree in computer technology, met her husband at work, they got married, then had a son, Gabriel. Somewhere in there she had the time to study up and gain her Canadian citizenship.
She still lives in Calgary, Alberta, Canada with her family, her dog Mochi, and her cat Boo.
Lovely young adult book. Plenty of intrigue. Thought the author captured the naive perspective of the young characters very well, while still allowing them enough depth to keep them interesting. I thought my school was unpleasant, but at least I didn't have to deal with demons! (Not the literal kind, anyway. I sometimes still wonder!) Looking forward to the next installment! Get writing, girl!
