This book is an impressive collection of some of the earliest literature still extant from the great Ancient Egyptian civilization. Much of the material contained in this work -- poems, narratives, songs and prayers -- was translated here and made accessible to lovers of antiquity for the first time. Covering a range of topics including schools, religion and love, the collected works here provide the reader with a deeper understanding of ancient life along the Nile.
Ancient Egyptian Literature by Adolf Erman was a very good read, and I learned a lot from it. The book provides valuable insight into the richness of Egyptian texts and gives a strong foundation for anyone interested in the subject. However, the language and writing style were sometimes difficult for me to follow, which made the reading experience a bit challenging at times. Even so, the depth of knowledge and the amount of information presented made it worth the effort.
