Helen Beatrix Potter was an English author, illustrator, mycologist, and conservationist who is best known for her children's books, which featured animal characters such as Peter Rabbit.

Born into a wealthy household, Potter was educated by governesses and grew up isolated from other children. She had numerous pets, and through holidays in Scotland and the Lake District, developed a love of landscape, flora, and fauna, all of which she closely observed and painted. Because she was a woman, her parents discouraged intellectual development, but her study and paintings of fungi led her to be widely respected in the field of mycology.

In her thirties, Potter published the highly successful children's book The Tale of Peter Rabbit and became secretly engaged to her publisher, Norman Warne, causing a breach with her parents, who disapproved of his social status. Warne died before the wedding.

Potter eventually published 24 children's books, the most recent being The Tale of Kitty-in-Boots (2016), and having become financially independent of her parents, was able to buy a farm in the Lake District, which she extended with other purchases over time.

In her forties, she married a local solicitor, William Heelis. She became a sheep breeder and farmer while continuing to write and illustrate children's books. Potter died in 1943 and left almost all of her property to The National Trust in order to preserve the beauty of the Lake District as she had known it, protecting it from developers.

Potter's books continue to sell well throughout the world, in multiple languages. Her stories have been retold in various formats, including a ballet, films, and in animation.

This is a sweet board book perfect for tots who don't want anything scary in their Halloween fare. Peter helps his sisters work on a Halloween costume (princess fairies) but runs out of time to work on his own. Mother Rabbit comes to the rescue with a pumpkin costume for him. Simple story but illustrations are lovely and very gentle in the Peter Rabbit style with only a few autumn leaves and pumpkins to create the autumn ambiance and no "Halloween" decorations such as ghosts, witches, bats, etc. More of a three stars for me now, but there was a time when this book would have been absolutely perfect for my sensitive little ones and it is nice to see a book that fills this need so I bump it to four.

Wow, anyone who loves Peter Rabbit and Halloween will adore this book! It's perfect for early readers and the illustrations are outstanding!! Peter Rabbit and his family search for items to make their own costumes for Trick or Treating from things they find in their environment. This is a story of love, sharing, family, and fun and I highly recommend to librarians, teachers, parents, and caregivers who are looking for the perfect children's holiday book!

Peter is such a good big brother in this tale. He spends all his time helping his three sisters with their costumes, happily. But this sacrifice leaves him in a bind for his costume. Thankfully, Mother has a solution.

I think it's safe to say Beatrix Potter did not write this story about trick-or-treating, LOL. It's cute and gentle, but don't expect the memorable stories of the classic works.

Great book for halloween that teaches a good lesson and also has no questionable halloween characters. Only features princess, fairy wings, radish and pumpkin.

"The bunnies were all very excited - it would be their first time trick-or-treating!"

All of the animals in the forest have organized a Halloween trail! Peter and his younger sisters are so excited to get dressed up.

As a big brother, Peter wants to help his sisters with their costume - fairy princesses. So he gathers ivy and flowers to make wings and crowns.

"What about your costume, Peter?" they asked.
"Don't worry," said Peter. He had a big plan for his costume but wanted to help his sisters look their best...

Will he be able to help his sisters AND get his costume ready in time?

Okay, I have to admit, these 'new' Peter Rabbit books are growing on me. At first I was like: NUH-UH. Beatrix Potter is the ONLY Peter Rabbit writer for me.

And yet...

I'm reading all of these cute board books and I'm being won over.

It's a lot of fun to get a peek into Peter's life with his Mama and sisters - and these versions are a LOT less violent than Potter's original books ( a lot less rabbits being eaten or threatened to be made into pies).

I like the gentle plots, the sweet drawings and the adorable expressions on the rabbit's faces.

The one thing that did annoy me was that the cover gave away a pretty major plot point BUT given the target audience is under the age of five, they probably wouldn't notice.

If you are looking for a fun Halloween adventure - this is lovely!
