One of the best books in this series, with only a couple of duds and 8 good stories amongst the 13 on offer.
Good stories are David Dixon's 'The Lodger In Room 16' - a man living across a hallway is worried about strange noises coming from the room opposite; Andrea Newman's 'She'll Be Company For You' - a man's ailing wife dies, but a friend is suspicious; there's a story by Mr Anonymous called 'In The Slaughter Yard - not much narrative here but plenty of atmosphere as a man investigates Whitechapel at the time of Jack The Ripper; Mor Jokai's 'The Drop Of Blood' - a very different and atmospheric story of a man who goes to his doctor and asks for a part of his hand to be removed because of the pain; and editor Mary Danby's 'Robbie' - in which parents are concerned by their strange little boy.
Even better are Harry E.Turner's 'The Wager' - an unusual story of a man being challenged by a dwarf to unarmed combat; and Bryn Fortey's 'Shrewhampton North-East' - a good Twilighty Zone story about a group of characters meeting at a railway station, but with nowhere to go. It's enjoyable even if the ending seems tacked on.
Best of all though is R.Chetwynd-Hayes's 'Growth' - a weird and atmospheric tale in which something peculiar happens during a medium's performance.
