About the author

Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie FRS, known as Flinders Petrie, was an English Egyptologist and a pioneer of systematic methodology in archaeology. He held the first chair of Egyptology in the United Kingdom, and excavated at many of the most important archaeological sites in Egypt, such as Naukratis, Tanis, Abydos and Amarna. Some consider his most famous discovery to be that of the Merneptah Stele. Petrie developed the system of dating layers based on pottery and ceramic findings.

الكتاب جيد ..
ينحدث عن الجوانب المختلفة للحياة من النظرة للفيضان و تشييد البيوت و عادات المصريين تجاه بعضهم و العملات ونظام السخرة ...
أثار انتباهي تقسييم الكاتب العمال لفئات منتجة وفئات غير منتجة مثل محنطي الموتي و قال أن عبء إطعام الغير منتجين كان يقع على المنتجين...فهل كان التحنيط بالمجان ؟
لم يكن كذلك في اعتقادي لوجود فوارق في عملية التحنيط نفسها ما بين الغني و الفقير ...غير أني لا أدري
ثم كيف يقول لا نفع من هذه الأعمال ومن المعروف ان المصري يقدس الموت والحياة الآخرة فكيف لا يرى التحنيط عملًا مهما و هو الذي يؤمن بقدسية الموت و ما بعده.

تحدث الكاتب كذلك عن مهام الفرعون و الوزير و تقسيم الأعمال في البلاط الملكي

كذلك تحدث الكاتب عن الزواج و النظرة للمرأة و كيف كانت المرأة سيدة نفسها إن كانت تقرأ

أعيب على الكتاب هو ااسترسال في المقارنة ما بين العهد الفرعوني والعهد الروماني ..
إذ ما الفائدة و الكتاب من المفترض أنه يتحدث عن المصريين القدماء و ليس مقارنة ..
في رأيي الشخصي أضعف هذا الكتاب كثيرا
