This historical novel describes the challenges faced and losses suffered by Muslims of the Indian Sub-continent during their migration to Pakistan after the Partition of India in 1947. On June 3, 1947 Lord Mountbatten announced that district of Gurdaspur was to be assigned to Pakistan but Redcliffe, Head of the Boundary Commission, conspired with Indian politicians such as Nehru and modified the geographic boundaries of the two newly formed countries in order to include the district of Gurdaspur in India’s map. As a result, the Muslim population of Gurdaspur set out in search of a safe home in Pakistan but many dangers awaited them on their journey to their new homeland

Sharīf Husain (Urdu: شریف حسین), who used the pseudonym Nasīm Hijāzī (Urdu: نسیم حجازی, commonly transliterated as Naseem Hijazi, or Nasim Hijazi) was an Urdu writer famous for writing Islamic Historical fiction. Born in British India he settled in Lahore, Pakistan after independence. His novels based on Islamic history are considered one of a kind in Urdu literature.

Title : Soil and Blood

Naseem Hijazi had to migrate from Indian East Punjab to Pakistani Punjab,at partition in 1947.
He witnessed a lot of communal rioting and the book was published a couple of years later,in 1949.

Given what he went through,it is an understandbly emotional book.However,personally,I skimmed through the book.The writing style did not grab my attention.There are better books on partition related violence.

I have read many stories at the time of partition but this one is no way near to them. clear, precise, true and exact picture has been taken by naseem in this book.
maazi ki talakh yadain, na insafian or bahaduri k muzahiray is kitab mai mehfuz karlie gayi hain. shru say le kar akhir tak maazi ki Yeh jhalkiyan, mamlaat, mamulaat or malumaat is kitab ka ahem hissa hain.
I am in love with this book. :)
also, this book has made me fell in love with Pakistan. the efforts and the hard work of Muslims at that time, their sacrifices and helping attitude made it all happen.

A kind of popular fiction that represents the narrative of Pakistani nationalism which tells us this country was made at the cost of the sacrifice of Muslims murdered by Sikhs and Hindus. It's not just a historical fiction but there are also snippets of information about the factors that were involved in the inception of Pakistan which are nothing other than distorted history under the influence of nationalism. It would have been a good book if Nasim Hijazi had told only story, no matter that story was close to reality or not. But when you also try to give some context to your story and that context is just a parochial view, you also ruin the beauty of that story.

The copy I had, was really rusty, old, and almost tattered; combined with the story and odor, it highly reflected the bloody episodes happened during the course of partition in 1947. It describes the sacrifices and hardships a family from East Punjab had to face in the aftermath of partition and how even very close Sikh friends and neighbors betrayed their Muslim compatriots. Though fictional, Naseem Hijazi has painted a vivid picture with historical accuracy to create a powerful expression.

برِ صغیر اور بالخصوص پنجاب کی تقسیم اور اس ضمن میں جو کشت و خون کا بازار گرم ہوا وہ ایک ایسا المیہ تھا کہ جس کے اثرات آج بھی ہمارے معاشرے میں صدائے بازگشت کی ماند متعرش ہیں۔ تاریخ کے عنکبوت کا جال بہت سے مختلف دھاگوں سے بُنا ہوتا ہے اور یہ کتاب ایک اہم دھاگہ ہے جو کہ مشرقی پنجاب کے عام مسلمانوں کے اس خاک و خون میں مالیدہ تجربہ کی تاریخی داستان ہے اور اس کو پڑھے اور سمجھے بغیر نا ہم اپس تاریخی واقعے کو سمجھ سکتے ہیں جو کہ سن ۴۷ میں رونما ہوا اور نا ہی موجودہ معاشرہ کی پیچیدیگیوں کو کہ جن کا ایک بڑا حصہ آج بھی اس صدمہ کی غیر شعوری ارتعاش ہے

The Novel "Khaak Aur Khoon" describes the working of youth and sacrifices given by the emigrants at the time of freedom of the subcontinent and establishment of Pakistan. It consists of four parts:
I. Muskurahatain
II. Dharkanian
III. Surkh Lakeer
IV. Aey Qaom
Saleem the central character of the story in an intelligent reposeful and novel-minded person. 1st part of the novel describes his childhood. This part is full of smiles. There are a lot of other fascinating events that make the reader addicted to the storyline. Salem receives his primary and higher education from his village. In this part, the writer describes the qualities of the central character such as devotion sense of responsibility, and intellectual humor.
Dharkanain the part second describes the college life of Saleem. In college, he becomes aware of the importance of a separated homeland for Muslims. He becomes the part of Pakistan movement run by the Muslim league. Salem participates actively and works to convince the Muslim youth to be part of this movement. He urges them to participate in sessions that are held at college by Muslim League. He uses his pen as a weapon for his participation. He made speeches, writes articles in the college magazine. He devotes himself to the establishment of Pakistan, a separate state of Islam.
Surly Lakeer describes the cruelty of Hindus and Sikhs. In this part, the writer wants to sketch the cruelty and tyranny of the Sikhs nation on weaponless Muslim emigrants. In this part the clear picture of, how the Muslims were slaughtered, women were rapped and the caravans of emigrant India to Pakistan we're robbed has been shown.
Saleem leads a caravan and tries his best to make it reach the destination. His family also has been martyred in his village. He with some other young men fights with groups of Sikhs attacking the caravan and makes the traveling safe. After a lot of sacrifices, the damaged and robbed caravan reaches its destination the new homeland Pakistan.
In Aey Qaom, the fourth part, Naseem Hijazi describes how the plans and tricks of the British Government in India gave rise to the issue of Kashmir, Gurdaspur a city with more Muslim population was included in India. This city links India to Kashmir. This corruption of Redcliff allowed. Indian Army to illegally occupy Kashmir. But Kashmir is a state with a more Muslim population. The resistance of Muslims of Kashmir Against this occupation encourages the tribal nations living in the North Areas of Pakistan to participate in this Jihad. Majeed an army and cousin of Saleem with soldiers salute Saleem for his services and tells Saleem that he is going to Kashmir to participate in the war of freedom for Kashmir. Saleem marries Asmat one of his friend's sisters, whom he likes since a teenager. The writer ends this novel with the hope that one day the land of Kashmir will see the sun of freedom.
This novel encourages the reader to devote himself to the nation. After reading this novel truly describe the sacrifices the individuals of the nation have to give for its rise. The coordination of all the characters in the novel by their nature. The dialogues written by the writer are of standard quality. The simple vocabulary is used anyone can understand the context. The flow of the story mesmerizes the reader. One must read this novel.

Naseem Hijazi's novels have a special place in my heart.He is the reason I fell in love with historical novels though I used to hate history despite that I really enjoyed this novel.There's something special about his writing style and his novels are perfect to portray the beauty of the Urdu language.

This was the very first Urdu novel I read.My brother recommended me I guess I Read this book back in 2019 and I could still vividly remember the plot. This novel for me, was a rollercoaster of emotions Some parts were funny some were cute and wholesome and in some parts I bowled my eyes out. At the beginning there were a lot of fascinating yet hilarious events which made it even more addictive and made me stick to the story line. Saleem and Majeed were such sweethearts and Amjad too. And then there's the love story of Saleem and Asmat. The thing I like the most about Naseem Hijazi's books is that it contains little to no-romance and is expressed in the most decent way possible unlike how romance is portrayed in novels nowadays. Their love story was kinda cute I would say I'm going to re-read all of his novels once I'm done with my exams. I really really love this book there's so much you could learn from his books, do give it a try and I'm sure you'll love it too.♡

حجازی کو خود اپنا گھر چھوڑ کر پاکستان انا پڑا تھا، اس لئیے وہی دکھ اور غریب الوطنی ان کی اس تحریر بالآخر جھلک آئی. ان پر ساتھ میں یہ الزم بھی لگایا جا تا ہے کہ انھوں نے حقائق کو توڑ موڑ کر پیش کیا ہے لیکن تاریخی ناول نگاری میں یہ چیزیں معمول سمجھا جاتا ہے (اس لئیے تو تاریخی ناول نگاری کو تاریخ سے ایک جداگانہ ادبی صنف سمجھا اور پڑھا جاتا ہے). اس کی ایک اور وجہ اردو زبان میں انگریزی زبان سے متاثر ہو کر نت نئے طریقوں سے طبع آزمائی بھی ہوتی ہے).
بٹوارہ برصغیر کی تاریخ کے الم ناک واقعات میں سے ہے، تو جس نے بھی اس پر تحریر لکھی وہ درد کے ایک تجربے سے گزر کر لکھی یا درد میں ڈھوب کر لکھی. شاید یہی حادثہ برصغیر کے ادب پر اپنی گہری چھاپ چھوڑ گیا.
خاک اور خون اپنے مدوجزر میں بہا کر لے جانے کی صلاحیت رکھتا ہے. انگریزی ادب پڑھنے والوں کو شاید اس میں وہ ادبی گہری یا موشگافیاں نہ ملے لیکن دور جدید میں جب عبد الحلیم شرر یا شورش کشمیری کی تاریخی تحریریں دم تھوڑ گئ ہیں ایسے میں حجازی کی تحاریر آج تک بھی زندہ ہیں. شاید کچھ وقت ابھی باقی ہوں.

A very painful story .It showed partition hardships. Our Punjab people had given a lot of sacrifices for getting sacred Homeland Pakistan.
Pakistan came into being after lots of sacrifices of Muslims which is truly shown in this novel .Hindus and Sikhs betrayed Muslims only on the basis of religion.
The story showed childhood of hero Saleem which was full of happiness and then came the youthfulness of hero which was enthusiastic and full of zeal and zest.After that, the most painful time ,partition time,came in which Saleem lost his entire family.
I cried a lot while reading it as it revealed pain of my ancestors who gave their lives , honor and property for nation. It is patriotism invoking book. I love it.

اس ملک کی مٹی میں لاکھوں، کروڑوں شہدا کی مٹی شامل ہے ،اس ملک کی خاطر ہزاروں لوگوں نے بےشمار قربانیاں دی ہیں اور ہزاروں ماؤں اور بیٹیوں کی عصمتیں قربان ہوئ ہیں مگر ہم میں سے بہت لوگ اپنے ہی ماضی کو فراموش کر بیٹھے ہیں ۔آج کل کی نسل کو اپنے ملک کی فسردہ تاریخ کے بارے میں کچھ زیادہ علم نہیں اور یہ انتہائی علمیہ کی بات ہے ۔
خیر کتاب کی طرف آتے ہیں ۔
یہ کتاب تقسیم ہند پر مبنی ایک دل کو جھنجھوڑ نے والی، خوبصورت اور دل دہلا دینے والی کتاب ہے اور کیا خوب کتاب ہے ۔ میں کسی کتاب کو پڑھتے ہوئے اتنا نہیں روئ ۔
یہ تھی سچی محبت کی داستان ، یہ تھی پکے یارانہ کی داستان اور یہ تھی خون اور آنسؤوں کی داستان ۔
کہانی کا اہم کردار سلیم ہے ۔ اس کی اپنے زندگی سے وابستہ ہر چیز سے دل لگی ناول میں کافی دفعہ دیکھنے کو ملی۔
یہ کہانی ضلع گرداسپور کے ایک قصبے پٹھان کوٹ میں واقع ہے۔سلیم کی اپنے گاؤں اور اس کے مکینوں سے ناقابل فراموش محبت دکھائ گئ یے ۔لورڈ مائونٹ بیٹن کے پیش کردہ تقسیم ہند کے پلین کے مطابق گرداسپور اور اس کے آس پاس کے ضلع پاکستان میں شامل ہونے تھے۔چودو اگست کو ان تمام اضلاع میں جو خوشی منائ گئ ٹھیک سترہ اگست کو تمام مسلمانوں کا خوشیوں کا مینار زمین بوس ہو گیا اور ان کے بچپن کے دوستوں نے ہی ان کو ذلت اور خون کا جام پہنا دیا اور جن کی بیٹیوں کو وہ اپنی بیٹیاں کہتے تھے،انہی کی عصمتوں کی پرواہ نہیں کی ۔ اس انتہائی بے سرو سامانی کے عالم میں جب سلیم کو اپنے ہی قصبہ سے نکلنا پڑا جہاں اس نے اپنا بچپن اور جوانی گزاری تھی اور مشرقی پاکستان کی طرف ہجرت کرنا پڑی وہ ایک الگ ہی روح فرسا داستان ہے ،ان سب واقعات کو پڑھتے ہوئے یہ یقین کرنا مشکل تھا کہ یہ سارے واقعات حقیقتاً جامع پزیر ہوئے ہیں اور کروڑوں مسلمانوں نے باقاعدہ یہ سب تکالیف اٹھائ ہیں۔
کہانی کا ایک اور اہم کردار امجد ہے اور جو دوستی اس کے اور سلیم کے درمیان دکھائ گئ ہے وہ لازوال ہے ،جس طرح سے ان دونوں نے آخری دم تک دوستی نبھائ وہ قابلِ تحسین ہے۔
ایک اور کردار عصمت کا ہے ،اس کی اور سلیم کی محبت کی کہانی بہت خوبصورت لکھی گئ ہے اور جب کبھی ناول کا ماحول اداس ہو جاتا ان دونوں میں سے کسی ایک کی طرف سے چھیڑی گئ بات یا خیال ماحول کو قدرے بہتر بنا دیتا تھا۔
اس کے علاوہ کچھ اور اہم کردار دائود، افضل ،اسماعیل ،چودھری رمضان ،ارشد ،راحت ،شیر سنگھ کے تھے ۔
اس کتاب میں جگہ جگہ مزاح اور طنز کا بھرپور استعمال کیا گیا یے اس لیے آپ اس ناول کو پڑھتے ہوئے بور نہیں ہونگے۔
دوسری بات اس کتاب میں تھوڑی سی سیاست اور تاریخ شامل ہے اور ہندو فاشزم پہ تفصیل سے تبصرہ کیا گیا ہے اور میں یہی کہوں گی کہ ان صفحات کو بھی ضرور پڑھا جائے کیونکہ اگر آپ اپنے ہی فسوں حال ماضی کا سامنا نہیں کر سکتے تو معزرت کے ساتھ آپ محب وطن کہلانے کے لائق بھی نہیں ۔اس سے آپ کی نالج میں اضافہ ہو جائے گا ،یہ سوچ کہ ہر گز اس ناول کو نہ چھوڑ دیجیے گا کہ اس میں ہسٹری ہے
Trust me a little bit of history won't hurt you especially if it's about your own homeland
Overall the book is so good and I will never stop recommending this to everyone
