Roman and Ashley still hate each other, but the more time they spend together their attraction and sexual chemistry grows stronger. After a little romp around the mud, things get heated between the duo, problem is Roman has a girlfriend. After he calls Carmen to tell her that went went to third base with Ashley and she doesn't care, he's doubting not only his relationship but his entire life.

These two are very passionate together and can't wait to read more, love this!!!!

Totally turned off...

This is the fourth episode in the serial and should be read after Blindsided.

The definition of ravaged is to bring heavy destruction on; devastate. This is an apt title for this episode for in it Ashley literally ravages Roman. The character of Ashley is unlikable, childish, irresponsible, selfish, hypocritical, disrespectful, cruel, and emotionally abusive just to name a few things. This reader was totally turned off by the behavior of this character and will no longer continue the serial. A breaking point was reached when Ashley knowing Roman has a girlfriend he is committed to pushes him to cheat. A breaking point was reached when Ashley did not get the support of friends she took Roman to see and threw a temper tantrum. How much is the reader supposed to take? It is true that not every book is for every reader and this book is not for this reader any longer. Score the serial a DNF.

A match between this hero and heroine is unbelievable, they are too disparate and have nothing in common at their core. The heroine is an individual who lashes out chaos when things don't go her way. She has done nothing but caused harm to the hero. I cannot accept these two as a viable couple, they would never work in real life. You can't constantly hurt someone and expect them to ever forget how you have treated them. There are consequences to be paid for your actions. Roman has my pity. Ashley has my enmity.

I love the character of Roman but he is too nice a guy, vulnerable to this type of person, and she has destroyed his life. He is right when he said he is too weak. He will need years of therapy to recover from the damage she has done to him. He has my compassion for what he went through as a child.

I love Roman, but I can't stand Ashley. She is self centred, manipulative, hypocritical, irresponsible and despicable.

She knows Roman has a girlfriend but she still tries to force him to cheat. She has no respect for his relationship or for him. If Roman would act like Ashley does he would be considered a rapist. Her behavior is messed up.

If Roman ends up with this bitch I'm gonna rate all episodes in the serial with only 1 star because I don't support abusive relationships (Asheley is verbally and emotionally abusing Roman).

Roman Holiday: Blindsided concluded with Roman and Ashley embarking on a blackmailed holiday: a road-trip. Ashley’s final attempt at proving to Roman that the Sunnyvale resort is more to people than a run down old hotel.

Ravaged - As the road trip up the Eastern Seaboard continues in Episode 4 of Ruthie Knox’s eBook original serial, Roman Holiday, sparks are flying—but Ashley and Roman are farther than ever from seeing eye-to-eye about what matters most.

Ravaged left me with all the feels for both Ashley and Roman. Their first stop of the road trip is a married couple who’s been vacationing in Sunnyvale for several years. Ashley is convinced that their spirited, though urban lifestyle, and love for her grandmother and the resort will give Roman a glance into what Sunnyvale is to people.

What she doesn’t expect is Roman’s ability to read people and their needs, the depth to which his skill and knowledge runs. A few minor, yet significant, slaps in the face shock Ashley, but nothing more than a revelation regarding Roman and her grandmother. She is suddenly not as in control of the situation as she thought, and some issues surface that make her realize things aren’t so black and white.

Roman, on the other hand, is a mess. While he’s got the right cards, objectively, in his hands, he is completely at Ashley’s mercy. He’s doing everything in his power to rile her up, shake her out of balance, but eventually realizes he has to continue obliging with her demands. And on top of everything, his relationship with Carmen is crumbling and he discovers that nothing as it had seemed before. From that point on in the episode Roman was strumming my heartstrings like an expert and a few hours in the woods at the end there, make him all the more vulnerable yet determined.

One interesting aspect of this episode is their building attraction to each other, and not necessarily physically. They both make their best to jab and bait the other while at the same time feel bad for it. They start to sympathize and while not wanting to, maybe see the other’s point of view on things. On their goals. Their lives.

*lip wobble* All I can say is this installment is so appropriately titled, it friggin' hurts.

Both Ashley and Roman's defenses are ravaged, and all of their hurts and fears are coming to the surface. This is especially devastating for Roman, as he has spent so many years perfecting not feeling, not caring about anyone or anything.

Ashley's first stop on her trip with Prachi and Arvind doesn't go anything like she thought it would, and with everything that she hears, by the end of the night she's emotionally wrecked. The night should have been an unqualified success for Roman, but the weird thing is that it doesn't feel that way. When he goes looking for Ashley in the middle of the night to make sure she's ok, as usual Ashley pushes all his buttons and things end up getting a little heated. *fans self* Ok, a LOT heated. Aaaand That's just about the end of what Roman can take.

Later, we get to see more of Roman's background, the things that made him want to be who & how he is and....it's heartbreaking. I just want to hug him. *sigh*

Ruthie Knox writes sexy, steamy and funny like no one else. But she also can make your heart twist and ache for her characters, beautiful, sweet, troubled and real as they are. If you aren't reading everything she writes, you're depriving yourself, seriously.

I'm really loving this series and the characters. Roman and Ashley embark on their road trip, with Ashley working hard to get under his skin and Roman trying to figure out just why he's putting up with her. Yeah, you can feel the intensity building between these two and it may or may not be love, but it is definitely passionate.

It's easy to see Ashley as an unlikable, undisciplined brat, and sometimes she comes off that way, but I'm going to take a chance and say that there is more to her than meets the eye. Roman feels it too, and he can see through her on occasion.

What I like most about this story is that the characters are really fresh to me. They are flawed and they struggle. It makes them realistic and interesting and its a big part of why I keep reading.

So 5 stars for this installment.

Thanks to Loveswept, Ruthie Knox and Netgalley for an opportunity to read and review.

Again, this was better than the first two installments, but not as good as the third. Sigh. I'll keep reading.

I usually love everything by Ruthie Knox, and had been saving this little serial for a busy time when I needed something fluffy to read. This past week I served jury duty & read these 5 during breaks, etc. I don't know if they would have come across more fluidly if they were all read as one book, but I felt like the characters were weaker (I just don't think I personally connected with them this time, like I usually do) and then the serial nature of the story made it feel even more disjointed. And frankly, there was not enough believable attraction between the two main characters to support the UST she was trying to build. I guess I needed a little more lemony payoff throughout. It's still a quick fun read, but I think I'd have been more satisfied going back & rereading a favorite unf-y, UST-y fanfic or one of her earlier books.

Another great installment of this series. Things are getting hotter between these two and much more was revealed on Roman’s past. Man, I want to hug him.

We’re also seeing a little more into Roman’s relationship with Carmen, which we saw glimpse in the previous book. That girl is something, and not something nice.

I still want to know why Grandma did what she did, because more and more I’m finding her to be an asshole, lol.

We’ll see.

In book four, Ashley Bowen now convinces Roman to go to North Carolina to get cleaning supplies, for an Army surplus' store, to clean the Sunnyvale Vacation Rental Homes.

There she meet more friends of her late grandma, Arvind and Prachi Kapoor, who used to stay at the Sunnyvale. While talking with Roman, he convinces them to sell their own home and upgrade to a better, valued area.... Ashley is upset because she was hoping that the Kapoor will help her save the Sunnyvale.

One restless and sleepless night, Ashley walked out to the beach were she encountered Roman. After they shared a passionate kiss and almost had unbelievable sex, Roman confessed to his girlfriend, Carmen. However, he was beyond shock and disbelief when she told him that she didn't care what he did as long as he got rid of the Sunnyvale soon....they were falling behind schedule!

Also, Roman kept having miserable flashback of unfortunate incidents while he was a boy scout and all the bad things that happened with his foster father, Patrick.

I excitedly look forward to read the rest of the books in this very incredible interesting series. Highly recommended!

And again, Ashley is being a bitch. I know that we're supposed to feel for her in her grief, that people aren't perfect, but I didn't feel any such sympathy towards her.

What I did like about this one was the honesty that Roman and Carmen have. I'm a huge believer in open communication between partners and I love that Roman's first thought when things happened to Ashley was to tell Carmen that things have changed. In the process, they both discover their relationship isn't what they thought. I really like their honesty.

I also really loved Prachi and Arvind. They're so accommodating when Ashley shows up without warning and they don't immediately judge Roman and come to buy into his vision. I really feel for the awkwardness of their position.

This novella is actually a whole book divided to 10 parts. Each part is about 40-60 pages long. The first 5 parts are released weekly from 11th of November till 9th of December while the 5 following parts will be released around March 2014.

If you haven't read the first, second and third Roman Holiday installment - you shouldn't read my review of the forth part... Here is the review of the first one / second one / third one)

Before you begin reading don't miss out the sweet preface by Ruthie also containing a reminder to the three previous installments.

In this part, Roman and Ashley start their "Roman Holiday" with the first couple who has been coming to Ashley's grandmother's vacation rentals for several years. She intends for Roman to see for himself that soul is more important than luxury. Let's just say it doesn't turn out as she expected...

Though Ashley is making Roman do this trip and though she is mad at him for wanting to take her home from her, and from his point of view though Ashley is trying to take away his bright future and making him take this uncomfortable road trip - they both start caring about each other in their own way. When Roman makes her upset he regrets it immediately and when she feels like she is pushing him too hard she tries to make the trip more control-able for him.

There is also a steamy and dirty (with double meaning here ;)) between Roman and Ashley that leads to a conversation between him and Carmen. I"m sorry to say it like that be she is SUCH A BITCH! How convenient for her that Roman is a little unfaithful... She doesn't give the slightest fuck about Roman or what he does or with whom. but as it seems Roman feels about nothing towards her as well..

"
He tried to imagine Carmen beneath another man. Another man’s mouth on her breasts. Another man’s dick inside her. Roman waited for his pulse to quicken, his fists to clench. Nothing happened.
[...]
He thought of Ashley then with another man between her thighs. Ashley in the bathroom, upset, probably crying.
He stood up.
“What’s the matter with you?” she asked. “You look like you want to do some pillaging.”
“I’m fine.”
He smiled back at her, but it was the smile she didn’t like, and her face fell.
He crossed his arms and shifted from one foot to the other.
He wasn’t fine.
Roman was so far from fine, he doubted he could find it on a map.
"

I must add that I'm taking an educated guess here that the next book in the series will be of Carmen and Noah. As I know Ruthie and her writing I'll probably fall in love with her (and Noah) when I get her side of the story. But right now - GOD I hate her! and I applause Roman for being who he is and also for how he behaves. He cheated, yes, I hate people who cheat! But at least he is man enough to admit it. without being provoked to.

After they depart from the couple they start their drive to their next location - first stop for the night - a camping place in the woods. While Ashley organizes their things Roman goes for a walk in the woods (he walks, he doesn't hike..) and while walking we get a glimpse into his past. We understand Roman housing situation as a kid and in a way why he is no longer in touch with his adopted family. This glimpse left me heart broken. I can't wait for Ashley to "do her magic" on him and tear down his walls and surround him with her sunlight.

I really loved this part since we are unraveling Roman's past, why he is the way he is and also we see how Ashley in her own way breaks him down, makes him feel after years of not feeling anything. He is affected by her. He doesn't want her to be unhappy even though it means he is "getting what he wants" or maybe I should say what he's suppose to want.

I'm SO glad I read this one on Wednesday - less time to wait for the next and last installment (until March). I'm quite nervous for the last installment - I can't even guess what's going to happen and how it will effect them. and god I really don't know how I'm going to wait for the next half of the book! March seem so far away! I feel I'm already in mourning...

Roman Holiday Season One: Emotional Foreclosure & Giveaway! http://fangswandsandfairydust.com/201...

ALL FIVE BOOKS REVIEWEDAT ONCE

Roman Holiday is a serialized, epic romance. The author and publisher talk about it being released in ten episodes of 40 to 60 pages each over two seasons, much like a television series such as True Blood or Downton Abbey, but with far less time between seasons, thank goodness! As a whole the ten episodes will form a single romance arc.

(Blurb)

Serialized novels online are an interesting revival of one of the oldest forms of printed storytelling. Dickens was one author whose work was published in serial form. I don't think it's been as popular in recent times, with the exception of graphic novels. I am not talking about series novels, which are generally longer.

But, digital publishing has reopened this format to new interest and all types of experiments in publishing stories serially and this is Ruthie's second foray into the field. Her first was an advance, serial release of TRULY on Wattpad this past Fall. TRULY is scheduled for release next year as a full novel so it was not intended for serialization at all.

ROMAN HOLIDAY was planned as a serial. Ruthie talked with me about the differences in an interview last month (HERE). But, it's important to remember that the point is a story, and only secondarily the delivery method. And, this is shaping up to be quite a story. It's a story about being lost and finding your way, and maybe about being found but lost.

It is the grittiest story I have read by Ruthie Knox. Roman is Cuban-American, born to parents who left Cuba in the Mariel boat lift. He grew up in a foster family in Wisconsin. He is profoundly emotionally messed up: trying to get the approval of father figures who are rigid and either bitter; incapable of loving him. He's been taught to squelch his feelings by a Machiavellian mentor, who seems a bit shady. He's nearly engaged to a woman he doesn't love and who doesn't love him, and who is definitely shady.

Ashley is lost; abandoned by her father when her mother died, she was raised by her free spirited grandmother. She gave Ashley great wings, but not much in the way of rooted sure footing. Plus, she sold Ashley's home out from under her. To Roman.
The story is so far about them each discovering truths about themselves and others; and the illusions we create to get where we want to go. And, it may be about finding their ways to each other. It's also a coming of age story for Ashley.

Roman is the grittiest character she has made so far. He has a sad and tragic past and a powerful desire to succeed. But does he want what he is going to get if all goes the way he thinks he wants it to? And, if Ashley stops him from developing her grandmother's property is that going to give her the grounding she needs? Both of their dreams are illusory, built on sand and promises.

I don't feel the same kind of attraction to either Roman or Ashley that I have felt for other characters she has written. But that isn't going to be what makes the series for me. It is purely the story telling; Ruthie excels at sucking you right into the story. It doesn't matter if I like the characters or want to fantasize about Roman; I want to know what happens: What does Ashley learn? What does Roman end up with? Do they end up together? Does the villain get her due? How does Ruthie pull us in every week? How are the hook-ups (very nicely dirty)?

I can't wait to see where the two travelers go in their peregrinations and what lessons Ashley learns from her late grandmother's friends. I have a feeling Roman will be doing some learning as well.
What does it for me is the way Ruthie takes her characters apart and then reassembles them. So, though I may not like the characters, or think they've made poor choices are are too dumb to live, I am pretty sure I will like them better by the end of the story. They'll probably like themselves better as well.
It all reminds me of the Sheryl Crowe song: It's not getting what you want. It's wanting what you've got.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the series.

Ravaged is the fourth instalment in Ruthie Knox's Roman Holiday serialised novel and once again picks up the story immediately after the previous part ended. Ashley has found a way to blackmail Roman into taking a holiday with her, she has told him that if he gives her two weeks to change his mind about tearing down her grandmother's home she will accept whatever decision he makes at the end of their trip together. Her plan is to take him to visit the people who regularly spend their winters on the Keys, sure that her friends will be on her side and will show him just how important the complex is. But when Roman starts to explain the changes he wants to make she may just find that her plan is starting to backfire.

I've been really enjoying this serial, each instalment lets us get to know Ashley and Roman a little better and gives us more insight into their backgrounds and why they act the way they do. As much as I feel bad for Ashley that her home is about to be destroyed I have to admit that I felt uncomfortable with her actions towards Roman at times. I think in the beginning because he was so cold where she is so open and honest about her feelings it was easier to want to be on her side but as we start to see Roman open up and we learn more about his past it becomes harder and harder to accept the way she treats him. I don't think Ashley realises just how childish she can be at times but she does have a tendency to throw a tantrum when things aren't going her way. I can kind of understand where she is coming from though, she has just lost the only person who has always been there for her, she has also lost the home that she thought would always be hers and worse than anything her grandmother didn't tell her what she had planned so this has all come out of nowhere as far as she is concerned. That doesn't excuse her actions but it does show why she is so prepared to fight dirty to get what she wants.

I've come to like Roman more and more with every episode of the series and the things we discover about how he was brought up just broke my heart in this one. It is impossible not to feel for the lonely little boy he was and that makes it much easier to understand why he keeps his emotions locked up so tightly now as an adult. He never had anyone who cared for him and loved him as he should have been loved so now he doesn't believe that he ever will have that connection with anyone. The only way he has to prove his worth is by becoming a successful businessman and he is determined to be the best there is. All he wants is to prove himself to the people who always treated him like he was unworthy.

One of the things I loved about this instalment was the increased chemistry between them. I've said before that although they are opposites in a lot of ways I think they'll help balance each other out as they become closer. Roman is already starting to loosen up just a tiny bit and is questioning the way he lives his life and wondering if it is really as fulfilling as he always pretended it was while Ashley is being forced to face up to some home truths about the way she is treating Roman. I think Ashley still has a way to go before she accepts her grandmother's plans but I'm hoping she will start to realise that perhaps there was a reason for her actions. I can't wait to find out what happens next in Ignited!

The fourth installment in Roman Holiday, aptly titled Ravaged continues with the road trip from hell. Ashley is being Ashley and Roman is being Roman. Translated as, Ashley is being a brat trying to make Roman lose his control, to what purpose she doesn't even know. We get glimpses of both protagonists background, what influenced them, what makes them decide what path to take. In essence, I have two emotionally and psychologically wounded protagonists looking for self-worth in all the wrong places. Their attraction to each other is palpable, the illusions they have about their pasts and current relationships are being slowly ripped apart. For Ashley its two people she was counting on to help with her cause of saving Sunnyvale and realizing for the first time that her grandmother might not have cared for her that much. For Roman, it was hoping that his relationship with Carmen was more than just a business one. When he finds out from her that it isn't, then this proves that his foster father was right all along, he wasn't worthy. All this told, in that witty, wonderful and humorous way that will make you laugh and feel heartbroken at the same time. Not many people can relate to Ashley, she's bratty, annoying and brash. While most people would totally love the wounded, stoic hero that is Roman. But this is a Ruthie Knox book and she always matches totally incompatible people together despite the odds and makes it work. It happens in real life too.

In the fourth installment of Roman Holiday, our crazy couple find themselves at the first stop along Sunnyvale memory lane. While Ashley is hoping to show Roman what a gem Sunnyvale is and how much it means to people, she underestimates Roman's knack of reading people. Emotions are getting high, tempers simmering below surfaces, and passion just waiting to escape.

I feel like in this one, while I'm still not loving Ashely's childish behavior, I am understanding her more. And I do feel bad for her, but I also wish that she would own up to what's going on and try to cope. She spends all her energy on trying to make Roman see things from her angle, that she doesn't even take time to see where he's coming from.

And then there's Roman. Oh, I do feel bad for him, but at the same time, he's letting himself be dragged all over the South. If he really wanted to, he could just go back to Florida and tear down Sunnyvale. But instead he's giving into Ashley's crazy whims.

These two are both so messed up that it's a miracle any of them can actually function. While they finally give into one feeling in this installment, I think they need to connect on a different level if any progress is going to be made.

Picking up where the 3rd installment left off, Roman and Ashley are leaving the swamps of Georgia and heading on their next leg of the promised two weeks she has to change his mind about knocking down her grandmother’s hotel. This story just gets better as the two learn one another, between bickering and sharing moments.

The more that Roman sees her disappointment and sadness, yet her stubborn ability to cling to hope, an emotion he long ago decided had no place in his life, he wonders if perhaps they have more in common than different, despite their history. With an incredibly raw moment in a small muddy pond, emotions and sexual tension flares, and decisions must be made…

Told in installments, this story manages to add levels of nuance and development to each character as the story behind Roman’s acquisition of the property is being divulged. As we learn his history that explains his obsession with control of his emotions and reactions, it makes him much more relatable and actually allows readers to gain some empathy for him and his early life. Ashley is still avoiding her own issues, preferring to focus on changing Roman’s plans even as she wrestles with the attraction that is blossoming between them.

I received an eGalley from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Actual Rating: 2.5, but it's more of a 3 star read than a 2 star read, so I rounded up.

The more I read this serial, the more I think I might not be the right audience for this type of publishing. Sometimes books drag a little in places and I am used to that. Sometimes it leads to DNF’s, but sometimes it also leads to some of my favorite reads. Usually though it something starts to drag, I have more to look forward to that might pick it back up. With a serial, I don’t have that. I have to wait for the next piece and hope that it’s the part of the story that picks back up.

With Roman Holiday, I think I’m losing interest. I was never really that much into Ashley and Roman. I haven’t connected with either of them and by now we don’t really know much about them other than Ashley seems to be a bit of a brat and Roman’s a fraud. I did enjoy that Ashley learned a little bit more about what others think of Sunnyvale. I also enjoyed the small fraction of growth we saw between Ashley and Roman…and learning more about how brutal Carmen is.

I hope that Ignited, ignites my interest in this serial again because Ravaged really kind of killed it. I just don’t think I care much about any of them at this point and I’m not sure I’m going to be able to.

My heart. It hurts. It hurts for Roman, it hurts for Ashley, it hurts for how they see themselves.

Watching Ashley let go, get mad, let loose was terrifying and breathtaking. She feels deeply and lets it all go and I love that about her. But the sight of her sitting in that garden, feeling lost broke my heart a little. Stoic, tough, strong-willed Ashley sitting there like the little girl she was never allowed to be.

Roman. Oh, Roman. Talk about breaking my heart. Seeing further into his past, into just how hard it must have been and how much he tried... it hurts. Sins of the father were definitely visited on the son. So it is completely understandable why he shut himself down. But the minute he broke open, all that tightly repressed emotion breaking free...now that was glorious. Roman is truly something to behold when he allows himself to feel, react, act.

Roman had his world skewed by Carmen, rocked in a lake by Ashley and repressed once more by the words of the men that shaped him. But that shell has cracks and a few more swings from Ashley's spirited hammer are going to send those cracks shattering. I for one can't wait to watch it happen. To inevitably watch this world burn. And the Airstream is sure to glow when it does.

Ravaged by Ruthie Knox is the fourth in a set of five serial novels about Roman and Ashley. There is another set of five novels that will be released at a later date giving us a holiday from our Holiday!

So the road trip continues. Roman is giving Ashley the silent treatment and she's not getting the response she expected from people. She is so desperately trying to save Sunnyvale from demolition that she has a difficult time comprehending when people don't see the place as she does.

Roman has been trying so hard all his life, first with his foster dad, then with Herberto, he doesn't know who he is anymore around Ashley. She makes him want, she makes him feel and he is just itching for it to stop. For things to go back to how they were before she chained herself to that palm tree.

*Banging head against wall* When will they both realize they care for each other? *Frustrated sigh & eye roll* people can be so dense sometimes...
Now onto book 5...

This story just gets better with every week. Installment #4 Ravished. We get backstory on Roman and how that affects his feelings. Their love-hate relationship heats up as their chemistry skyrockets.

Roman and Ashley leave the commune and head to their next stop. Ashley makes him stop for supplies so they can stay in the camper. She is not a very nice person in this episode, making him do everything she wants and acting very much the part of the blackmailer. He remains passive and resigned to do her bidding but hates every minute of it. Her friends do not take her side at this stop and welcome the ideas Roman has for the new complex. This throws Ashley into a tantrum and they come pretty close to having sex in a pond. He is stunned when he confesses to Carmen and she doesn’t care what he does as long as he keeps Ashley quiet so she can get their project going.

My heart went out to Roman in this episode because he is confused about how his life is not the way he wants to live it, but strict rules are what he must follow to hold himself together. He has been hurt too many times to even dream that he can have love and happiness.

As you read this serial, were you burning to know more about Roman? Well, Ruthie Knox reveals a little more about the hero in the fourth episode of Roman Holiday and why he is so damned determined to carry out this business plan despite the big obstacle of an Ashley Bowman.

It’s a little sad, really when you discover more about him. As a child, he didn’t really have anyone to lean on. There was no one to tell him he’s done well. So the only way he can really prove his worth is through his work. Despite working with others, he keeps himself in this prison of his own making, never letting anyone penetrate enough to get to know him. His lonely life has lead to a lonely heart and it seems that Ashley is also having a hard time picking through that icy barrier.

If you like a little angst in your Contemporary Romance, well then Knox delivers in this helping. I’m hoping for a HEA for Roman soon! He deserves it!

Roman Holiday: Ravaged brings us to the Eastern Seaboard. This is the first stop in Ashley’s quest to rally her friends around Sunnydale. Unfortunately, Roman’s pitch for an all-inclusive resort is awfully enticing to the first set of her resort friends. Ashley is upset by her friend’s reaction and begins to question her efforts.

Grief really begins to take over in this episode. Ashley takes great pleasure is taking control away from Roman. She doesn’t give him complete information about where they are going and what the plans are. Instead she leads him around and takes pleasure in it. Roman, on the other hand, begins to loosen up a bit. Not much, but enough that we begin to feel his pain and the reasons he is so determined to be in control.

By the end of the episode they have reached a fragile truce. Ashley begins to trust that Roman is in this for the long haul. Roman also begins to trust Ashley and realize that she’s not out to destroy him. This could have been a transitional episode, but Knox manages to keep it fresh and the action moving.

Roman Holiday 4: Ravaged by Ruthie Knox
In this installment we delve further into Roman and Ashley’s relationship.
We get to see so much more of Roman’s history and what shaped him into the man he is today.
I just wanted to give him a big hug, or something!
Ashley is still grieving for her Grandmother and while I do feel for her, I am exasperated also, come on girl, just open the box.
Although Roman is still upset with Ashley for blackmailing him into this road trip he feels that they are becoming less and less like enemies. Ashley is also struggling with her feelings, bemoaning the fact that Roman is so nice to her and that he makes her hot.
Ashley’s latest strategy, in changing Roman’s mind, does not go the way she expected leaving her more hurt and confused. Roman searches her out to comfort her, thus moving their relationship to the next level.
My oh my, the latest installment was aptly named and adds more layers to this complex and determined couple.

The novel was provided by the publisher through NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Will try not to be spoilery, but omg this section really got to me. As a former social worker and someone who has spent much of my adult life working with traumatized youth, this section resonated in a painful, yet curiously beautiful way. Ms. Knox has really nailed the emotional backdrop so well.

Ashley has spent much of her life disconnected and is now desperately trying to hold onto the last tiny, weakened root of her life; the one thing that has been her emotional compass.

Roman, who was cut loose through circumstances entirely out of his control (and this is IMO a central theme to his character), continues to deny these roots ever existed or were in any way necessary to his life.

In the midst of all of this angst is some of the most heated UST I've read in a while. Holy Wow.

I laughed and I cried throughout this piece. So many feelings were evoked and they were spot on. Kudos, Ruthie.

Reviewed on my blog, Becky on Books.

The road trip continues!

We have a super fun and sexy scene that is reminiscent of a mud wrestling bout in this episode--awesome, but cut short way too soon. It's definitely a highlight, though.

We also find out quite a bit more about why Roman is Roman--and it's bad. Very, very bad. I had to keep reminding myself that he's just a fictional character and it wasn't all real, because--whoa. Ruthie really gave him a tough life.

Ashley too is beginning to have some wrenches thrown her way--from sources that she never expected. All in all, this is a tough episode for our hero and heroine.

Never fear, though--one more to go before the enforced (darn it!) hiatus!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This serial is risky and beautiful and brave, and I'm loving it. Especially Ashley, who is such a fun, fierce heroine! I'm just so appreciating the fact that Ashley is devoted to something that's important to her - I feel like I don't see that enough in heroines. It might not be the most constructive thing she's devoted to, but that's her journey, and it's compelling as all getout.

It makes Roman feel so much more strong and solid, too, the way he hangs in there. And I love their sexual chemistry. This episode is quite combustible.

Knox weaves little insights into both their psychology along the way, their past, and it is quite deft. I feel like I have a depth of understanding into these characters that is unusual. Richly looking forward to the next.

Things get pretty messy in this one. Like, really gross. (And things have been pretty gross before.) And weird. (And things have been...yeah.) And that's okay, but I'm having a hard time liking any of the characters at this point. Which is fine; you don't have to. Yet.

Learning more about Roman's childhood was revealing, though, as was learning about his relationship. All the control he thought he had was only an illusion. And that's got to suck to realize. But all the support Ashley believed she had could be illusory too, and I was kind of gleeful when she started to realize that. Is it sick that I'm enjoying seeing these two characters get torn down? Maybe, but you know it'll be sweet when they come out the other side.

Some fun stuff happens in this installment. Roman & Ashley's road trip is now beginning. First stop is North Carolina to see a couple who's been going to Sunnyvale to vacation. Ashley hopes they can help with her cause. Things really don't go according to Ashley's plan though. Ashley learns some hard truths that's hard for her to handle. I don't want to go into to much details because I don't want to give anything away. But, Ashley & Roman are able to break down some walls between them & they may have a heavy & wet make out session. A lot of stuff does happen in this episode. We see more of Romans past & how he's trying to fight and figure out what's going on with how he's starting to feel about Ashley.
