This is the second in the trilogy and as compelling as the first. Great book for boys between Spiderwick and older YA boy books. Very action oriented, great obstacles, easy to visualize for those who like "movie" books. Good one for middle school aged boys (and girls). Fans of The Golden Compass will also enjoy thses.

Heavens above, I loved this book! Humpherys is dark without being horribly bloody and frightening and I just love Sky all the more in this book. Thank you, thank you for being a character that is freakishly awesome, but still admits you have much to learn. I love the different "magic" of this book--no wizards, no djinn, no demi-gods. Just a kid and a bunch of stones and Mazzeri. Loved it! Loved it!

I have picked up this book so many times, but have decided not to finish it because it has some disturbing images of animal murder that made me shudder.
