Petal, Georgia, Book 2

He’s faced down every demon…except one fast-talking Southern girl.

It hasn’t been easy for Joe Harris to live down his not-so-honorable past, but the military made him a better man. He’s determined to make up for past mistakes, starting with coming home to care for his ailing father.

Things are going as planned until his best friend’s little sister comes barreling into his life. Funny, quick talking, smart, beautiful, she’s a temptation he tries—and fails—to resist.

When Beth Murphy hears Joe is back in town, she makes sure she’s the first on his welcoming committee. Though he tries to pretend he’s gruff and unworthy of her, she sees the man who spoils his dog, who touches her like she’s precious. Cherished. But there’s one wall she can’t break down—the truth about what’s happening at home.

On the night the nature of his father’s illness becomes painfully, publicly apparent, Joe does the right thing—push Beth as far away as possible. But if he thought she’d go away quietly, he’s about to learn she’s made of sterner stuff.

Warning: Slow-talking, sexy mechanic with a drawl, looking to get a Murphy right out of her underpants. Quick-talking woman who knows what she wants and has a weak spot for the aforementioned slow-talking mechanic and his dancing dog. Bad words. Polly Chase behind the wheel again.

Lost in You is the second book in Lauren Dane’s Petal, Georgia series. It’s a wonderful story with lots of humor and steam, and poignant and heartbreaking on many levels. This truly, truly is a wonderful story.
From the cover:

As the book opens, with Beth Murphy learning that Joe Harris is back in town and setting herself to doing everything she can to get him to see her as more than just his best friend’s little sister, I really expected this to be a fairly light, run-of-the-mill erotic romance. Well, it’s definitely erotic and it’s definitely a romance, but trust me when I tell you, it’s so much more.

Lost in You is a story about loving unconditionally. It’s about acceptance, forgiveness, compassion, and family. About opening yourself up and letting the people who love you help you, to lift your spirits and help carry your burdens. I laughed at Beth’s blatant flirting and no holds barred quest to work her way into Joe’s heart, by starting with his bed. She never gave up hope, and never stopped trying, because he was already in her heart, and she wasn't about to let him out without a fight. Joe’s story, his father’s story… just heartbreaking, but so, so inspiring, too. There were moments I wanted to smack our hero and heroine, but no matter. Their actions were, for the most part, understandable and in keeping with their circumstances.

Since this is a spin-off of the Chase Brothers series, we do get to revisit them and their families, and while I haven’t yet read those books, I wasn't confused and didn't feel like I was missing anything - well, other than some fantastic stories. But that's okay, because I will definitely be reading those now.

The bottom line: What more can I say than I’ve already said? Not much, really, except that I was totally sucked in, completely invested in the story and the people, and can’t wait to get back to Petal, Georgia again, soon!

Many thanks to Samhain Publishing for providing me with a copy of this book in return for an honest review. It was a pleasure!

I luvvvvvvvvvved it! Now this is how you write a hot, feel-oh-so-good contemporary romance!

An adorable, sassy heroine who's not afraid to say what she thinks and go after what she wants + a former teenage bad boy, just out of the military, matured, tattooed, and oh-so-smokin'-hot alpha nice guy = one exciting, hard-to-put-down read!

Fans of Ms. Dane's Chase Brothers series, you have to read these Petal, Georgia books. It's basically a continuation of the Chase series, only it centers around the wrong-side-of-the-tracks Murphy family (you know, Tate Murphy from (Making Chase and her brothers and sisters).

This one is about 33-year-old Joe Harris (best friend of William Murphy). After a stint in the military--which seemed to cure Joe of his bad boy ways--he's back in town to help take care of his mentally ailing father. Joe wants to make up for being the son he never was in his youth, so he comes home to help out and set up his business (he's an auto mechanic). Joe has friends in Petal (the Murphys in particular), but his number one priority is to look out for his family. A relationship of any kind (other than some casual sex) would be out of the question right now. But when he gets a look at an all grownup Beth Murphy....wow...but...but.. she's his best friend's little sister! Out of the question...

Joe...
 photo joeharris_zps225f9134.jpg

One look at the fully matured, former bad boy Joe, and 28-year-old Beth is bowled over. Six and a half feet of smoldering, blond-haired, green-eyed sexiness, and she's smitten. And he's come home to help his family! There's nothing better than a sexy bad-boy with a big heart, in Beth's book. Now, if she can just get him to think of her as someone other than William's little sister...

Wow, just writing this down I feel like I want to read it again.:) Joe and Beth were the perfect H/h--I loved them both. Their love story was sexy and fun, but they had some hurdles to overcome. The dialogue was perfection. The characters just jumped from the pages, they were that well drawn. Ms. Dane has a way of making her characters come alive in all her books, and this one was no exception. There was a time or two when I had tears in my eyes...that's how much I wanted this relationship to work!

The sex scenes were fun and hot...lots of teasing and pleasing, and they fell just short of erotic. Joe and Beth had all kinds of chemistry. Yes, Joe had his moments where he thought he was doing the right thing by not letting Beth getting involved with his family problems...but I loved how persistent she was--she was not going to give up on Joe! I just love a strong heroine.

There were times when I wanted to shout "Joe, just let Beth in!"...

So yes, yes, yes, say yes to this series. You'll be rewarded with glimpses of the Chase brothers and their families, get caught up with all the latest from Petal, and be introduced to more Murphys who need their stories told! I didn't think Lauren Dane could top Making Chase (Tate and Matt's book), but she sure came close with this one. 5 stars

Lost In You is the 2nd book in Lauren Dane's Petal, GA series. When I started this series I hadn't read the Chase Brothers series which I really want to do now.
The author does a great job with Beth and Joe's story!
Both sexy, flawed characters experience conflict and then resolution resulting in a wonderful love story.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin/Carina Press for a copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

It was fun being back in Petal GA catching up with the Murphy and Chase families. Good storyline and love all the character's. I enjoyed it very much however; I think LD spoiled me with the "Chase Brothers" series....there is just something missing from this series, but definitely worth reading if your a fan of her Chase Bros series.

An enjoyable visit back to Petal, GA and the wonderful Murphy family. I loved the beginning of the story. Beth is filled with snarky goodness and Joe is unbelievably hawt. Their chemistry was apparent from the beginning. Unfortunately, there really isn't much conflict beyond Joe fighting against being with his best friends baby sister. After a while, I lost interest and wondered why Beth didn't do the same.

‘Lost in You’ started out promising, but dipped quite early on when I realised there wasn’t much else but talk about Beth going after Joe and Beth really going after Joe.

And that was my red flag, even though the best friend’s sister trope is one that I do nose around for whenever I can. Unfortunately, I couldn’t really get engaged beyond the point where Beth started chasing Joe because there wasn’t much more to look for beyond that. A forthright heroine who knows what she wants is always a welcome change in direction in romance, but the small town talk simply seemed to be about everything and nothing as Joe and Beth danced around each other in a two-steps-foward-two-steps-back choreography.

Not having read Lauren Dane’s other series, ‘Lost In You’ did feel like I’d stepped in the middle of a show whose beginning I knew absolutely nothing about. Secondary characters who must have played an important and heartfelt role in previous books made appearances here but because I wasn’t invested in them at all, such scenes actually felt redundant and dragged the story under—this is obviously on me, but it was also a sign that ‘Lost in You’ just wasn’t my thing as well.

I was going through a reading slump and wanted something light and romantic, but I have made the mistake of choosing a book that was part of a series that I have not read or known of.

There is so much emphasis and reference to the secondary characters that was totally meaningless to me and made me confused and lose interest.

Also I’m not sure I liked how Beth pursues Joe, it was just too much, I wasn’t sure he actually deserved it, and I was a little embarrassed for her.

I don’t think that it’s fair to rate this book when I’m not familiar with the series.

I fell in love with Lauren Dane and Petal Georgia when I found the Chase brothers....now we are visiting with their extended family and the Murphy clan.

Joe Harris and Beth Murphy grew up on the same side of the tracks in Petal Georgia, the wrong one. That is what many would think, but now that time has passed it seems that time by the tracks has shaped them into people who care about their family, and understand what it means to be a family.
Joe left Petal for the military, not by choice but in a drunken stupor he signed up. Basic training gave him the structure he needed, and a great drill sergeant helped him focus on getting some skills. Now he is back in Petal, using his skills as a mechanic to set up a garage. He is determined to help his parents and hopefully reconnect with his best friend William Murphy.

Beth is thankful the Chase family has welcomed the whole Murphy clan with open arms. She relishes in her appointed position as favorite aunt to all of her nieces and nephews, however Beth longs to have a man who adores her like her sister Tate has in Matt Chase. Family is important to the Murphy’s weekly family dinners and being in business with her sisters keeps them connected. Beth notices when Joe comes back into Petal and immediately sets her sites on him. Joe tries not to break the “No dating your best friend’s sister” code but Beth is relentless.

“The stuff you say. My God. You probably aged Joe five years.”
“But they were really good five years, Trey.” she winked

I really enjoyed this book, the conflict between Joe and Beth was a refreshing change from what you see in contemporary romances lately. Their relationship took time, and it was not always perfect. Beth is a strong character who is strong in her convictions, when it came time to resolve the conflict in Joe and Beth’s romance I enjoyed how Beth did not immediately run into his arms, but set boundaries. No visit to Petal would be complete without a smattering of appearances from the Chase boys, their wives and Polly herself.

I discovered this book was being released and preordered it for my Nook and read it within days of release. This book is the second in Lauren Dane’s Petal series, it could be read as a stand alone as Lauren Dane gives enough background to keep involved with the story. For your upmost reading enjoyment I highly encourage you to start this whole wonderful visit to Petal Georgia with the first of the Chase Brothers books –Giving Chase , it is the best way to truly get all the inside jokes about Polly Chase and all the background of the characters and places of Petal Georgia. I hope another visit to Petal Georgia is in my future – I look forward to Petal book 3!

The series very much centres on family and I LOVE THIS because it creates such a close knit group of people, displaying different types of love other than the romantic lead we usually find in beloved romance novels. Family and friendships definitely make this series stand out. Lauren Dane weaves together a touching story filled with moments of silliness and happiness and also loving displays of affection as well.

I've come to expect the presence of a headstrong heroine in each of her novels and Beth Murphy is definitely one of my favorites. I loved the way she was so upfront about her wants and how she seemed to understand Joe in a way that others didn't.

Time For Some Petal, GA Action

Overall this was probably closer to a 3 star read for me, but I absolutely loved Beth so I’m moving it on up to a 4 star. The story moved a little slowly at times and Joe needed to pull his head out waaaay before he did, but Beth made up for all of that by being bold, up front and completely honest with her feelings. That fact alone made Lost In You an enjoyable story.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the second in the series of republished and edited stories. I would recommend that you read all the goodness of these books in order, as they will soon become families that you care about and connect with - from Polly Chase and her brood, and Tate and the Murphys, you will soon know how they are going to react, what will set them off, and when someone should probably step down, or up. I love this feeling of belonging and the intensity of Lauren Dane's writing. Not predictable, but always consistent, heartfelt and reading gold.

In this installment, Beth sets her sights on newly returned ex-bad boy Joe Harris. He recognises her worth, but can't see how a relationship can fit in with the crazy that is his life. So there is a push and pull worthy of a tug of war. Thanks to family, patience and forgiveness this is another romantic hit.

It is in the little details that Dane gives us the measure of a person, and connects us to their normal live. For me the scene of Beth eating a whole bag of Doritos and having to wash off the yellow on her fingers just fit so perfectly - both in the moment and the person. And of course Buck's reaction to Beth, and his condemnation of Joe's stupidity remind us of how clever dogs really are, and that they maybe should be listened to more often!

Add in all the catching up with Lily and Nathan from book 1 and the rest of the clan, and we can only smile at the importance of family - and to regulars a chuckle over Polly's hairstyle and her driving skills completes the perfect!

Awesome read. This is a reissue of a previously published book and the author did a nice job of updating it while maintaining the original story. It's full of humor, fun, and lots of hot sexy times. Beth is strong, sassy, and determined. Once she makes up her mind that she wants Joe he doesn't stand a chance. She doesn't care how many this is a bad idea excuses he has or how much he protests. I love these characters and the quirky town of Petal. Can't wait for more and I definitely recommend this one.

I liked this book and the characters yet there was something that just didn't click for me.

Beth likes Joe and wants to to be part of his life, but Joe's hardheadedness leaves her feeling left out when it comes to his family. Her family treats him like the part of the family yet she's on the outside looking in when it comes to Joe's.

Small towns equal small worlds yet we don't see his parents interacting with any of the major players which to me is a little odd.

The romance there yet I would have understood if Beth walked away.

M/F Romance
Triggers: Mental health issues and child abuse is discussed
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

This is Beth's book. She sees her brother's bad boy best friend and sets her sight on wanting to date him. Beth has overcome a lot from her past. She is done hiding from it, but also doesn't shout it from the roof tops.

Joe is back, but he's not sure if that's a good thing. He likes being near his friends and family again, but with his dad's health issues at the forefront of his mind, he isn't quite sure if he can handle a new relationship too.

I loved watching Beth's family and friends trying to help them get together. They are hysterical, loving and understanding. I think this was a sweet story about choosing family and loving the family you have.

At times, I wanted to really smack Joe, but overall, I understood why he was reacting that way. I loved Beth and how strong she was throughout. I can't wait to see what happens next. This is a great family.

I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads

3.5 stars - This is my favourite story in this series so far. Beth is an irrepressibly likeable heroine and despite all his attempts to be a jerk, Joe is a surprisingly charming leading man. I like the gender reversal in this book - it’s Beth who throws herself into wooing and courting a reluctant Joe. Beth’s plotting and scheming is comical and I really like her irreverence. I actually liked characters from other stories more than I liked some of them in their own books because Beth seems to make the people around her more vibrant. I like that this story is laugh out loud funny in places but it also tackles quite difficult themes of domestic abuse, mental illness and PTSD.

So. While this was a more enjoyable read than others in the series, I think this will probably be my last visit to Petal, Georgia. I’ve explained my reservations about these books in previous reviews. In short, I really struggle with the wholesome small town family values feel to these books. It’s a personal reaction based on my own considerable baggage and I know I’m not going to do the author any favours by signing up for more books to review. I hope that readers with different values and life experiences will really enjoy these stories.

OMG...Lauren Dane is completely back in her latest installment of the Petal, Georgia series, Lost In You. While I liked the first book Once and Again, it wasn't over the top good like the original series that centered on the Chase Brothers. However, in this book she makes it abundantly clear that she's a master storyteller and knows just how to keep her readers satisfied.

This is the story of Beth Tate and Joe Harris. We've known Beth for some time, but Joe is a former Petal resident who's come back home to help with a family situation. I absolutely love Beth; she's completely feisty, goes after what she wants, and says what's on her mind. She is my kind of gal! Joe, where do I begin with Joe? He's the town's bad boy all reformed. He is running his own business, helping his Mom with his Dad's failing mental health, and he's convinced he doesn't have time for a woman. Especially when the woman is his best friend's little sister which makes her off limits. Thank heavens Beth has her own ideas and she doesn't take no for an answer.

I've always enjoyed Lauren Dane's writing style and in this book she out does herself. In addition to Beth's completely smart mouth and often hilarious dialog, we are treated to the smooth talk coming out of Joe's mouth. Let's just say Joe likes to talk during intimate moments and while he uses the occasional dirty word, he's pretty damn eloquent as well. Their sex scenes are hot just by the actions alone, but when he turns on the talk...holy smokin' hell, make sure you have your partner or BOB nearby!

One of my major complaints with the first book in the new Petal Georgia series was we didn't see near enough of the Chase family. I'm happy to report that Lauren made sure we saw them multiple times and they were there with support, words of wisdom, and to just be plain damn fantastic! There was plenty of time spent with the Murphy clan as well and that made this reader completely happy.
From the very first Chase brother's story I have been in love with the town of Petal, Georgia. I'll admit I had more than a little crush on three of the four Chase brothers but I'll be damned if Joe Harris hasn't totally thrown them over. Even when he was being an obstinate jerk, I wanted to fold him up in my arms and hold him....he is one damn, big, hot as hell man!

Lost In You is an extraordinary story of love in forms. It shows us that no matter how hard it is sometimes you have to let go to make the other person understand you are what they need. The thing is you don't give up; you just sometimes have to be a little creative to make them understand! Thanks Lauren for this awesome story, considered me wowed!

Lauren Dane takes the readers back to the town of Petal, for a visit with the rowdy Murphy clan, in this sexy and entertaining story.

Joe Harris came back to his hometown to be a good son and help take care of his father. He’s changed a lot since his bad boy past. Then, sassy Beth Murphy sets her sights on the sexy mechanic. Joe tries to push her away at first. He’s got some reservations about getting involved in a relationship right now. Beth is his best friend’s little sister and that makes her off limits. And Joe knows that his dad’s health is declining fast, he knows he should keep his attention on his family. But a sexy and willing woman is hard to resist. Eventually, Joe gives in and they start burning up the sheets. But Beth is falling hard while Joe is still keeping a distance between them. Beth is stubborn and stays on his scent like a hound dog on the hunt, then just as they are getting closer, Joes private pain becomes public in a very big way. Ashamed and hurting, Joe breaks Beth’s heart when he calls things off for good. But hey, those Southern gals don’t go down easy, and Beth turns the heat up full blast. Still, a girl can only take so much rejection, and Ms. Dane had me wanting to smack Joe around some for being so darn obstinate.

Lauren Dane rocked this story like the pro that she is. As usual, she made me fall in love with her wonderful characters. She has created such endearing characters in the Murphy family and I can easily relate to them. That sense of family that she injects into her books is what gives me the warm and fuzzy feelings when I read one of them. I love all of her books, and this one is no different. It is an exceptionally compelling read, that drew me right into the story and too soon I reached the end.

Bottom line: I loved it! A very touching and romantic story.

I absolutely love the Petal Georgia series! I fell in love with the Murphy siblings when we first met them in the Chase Brothers series. I was so excited that Ms. Dane decided to continue with the Murphy kids in the Petal Georgia series. Tate Murphy from Making Chase, is one of my absolute favorite female book characters, and her sister Beth Murphy is no exception. I want to be Beth Murphy when I go up!

Beth Murphy is a strong and loyal person, and she does not take no for an answer when it comes to setting her sights on Joe Harris. Hell, she even gets Joe’s dog to fall in love with her. But, first she has to make Joe see her as something other than his best friends little sister.

Joe Harris has spent many years in the Army and has completed several tours in Iraq, but now he is home in Petal to help is parents. Joe’s dad health is declining and his mother needs his help. Joe never thought he was a good son, so now he is more determined than ever to be a good son.

This is another great story by Lauren Dane. You will fall in love with Beth, Joe and the whole Murphy/Chase gang. The story line with Joe and his dad is so emotional that you truly feel for Joe and parents. The Murphy family has been through it all, but they love like nothing else. Beth stands by Joe until he sees that loving someone does not make you weak, and love only makes you stronger. Beth shows Joe that it is okay to ask for help and lean on the ones you love. I am already looking forward to the next book, which I hope is Ann and Royal!

Happy Reading!!

I really like this series, love how the Murphy's have spun off from the Chase's. Both families are big and full of love, something that amazes me when you learn what the Murphy's home life was as kids.

I loved Beth, loved that when she met Joe, she knew she wanted him and boldly went after him. She was unabashed in her efforts, yet she didn't come off as a desperate hussy. There were so many times that Joe never knew what hit him! I liked seeing Joe fight the, no I can't, best friend's sister.

When Joe finally gave in, the two of them were cute, but I hated that Joe wouldn't share his troubles. I knew it would bring trouble, and whew boy did it and in a very public way. I hated that Joe was cruel to Beth in the aftermath, especially as it is when he needed someone to support him.

It didn't surprise me how hard Beth took things, but she did manage to come up with some great speeches. The first to Tate, talking about their childhood, I found myself in tears as she explained how the new generation was being raised in love, instead of fear like they were. The next time I found myself in tears was when Beth went to Joe and explained how she knew about shame, no person should have to have learned in that way.

I found it interesting how everyone started to pipe in with their thoughts on if Beth should fight for Joe and if he even deserved her. We already learned that Beth thought he was worth it and had no problem fighting dirty, her last act was great! Just the thing that Joe needed to wake him up.

I hope the stories keep coming in this series!

Ten years ago Joe Harris left Petal, Georgia for the military and now he’s a better man that he was when he left. All he wants is to get his garage up and running, take care of his dad and spend time with his dog. But even though he has no plans for a relationship, Joe finds himself being tempted by his best friend’s little sister.

This emotionally gripping story grabs readers by the heart and refuses to let go. The romance is full of electrical chemistry and wonderful passionate moments full of depth so that readers really get to know these strong, convincing characters and the emotional turmoil that takes place through this story gets ensures that readers really get the nitty gritty details of everything that Joe is going through with his father and his feelings about entering into a relationship.

The small town and the closeness of the families as they come together are really inspiring and make this romance a heartwarming story that readers can really sink their teeth into. This author has a knack for filling her stories with all the emotions of life so that her stories are realistic and comes to life. This romance also has a bonus story at the end that gives readers a fun and happy experience as the couples of Petal, Georgia experience a celebratory night out.

It was a refreshing change to have a heroine that is confident, forward and goes after what she wants.

However, while her chasing him was fun at the beginning of the book, it got kinda sad after awhile.

Love the Murphy family and this book would've gotten 2 stars, but that family is too awesome. They came from a horrible background and childhood and banded together to all better their lives.

This is a great series. I really enjoy the town of Petal.

Beth is a great heroine. She knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid to go after it. She also knew when to let go and move on.

I wish we'd gotten to know Joe a little better. I felt like I understood who he was now, but not a lot about what got him to this place. He was good for Beth, though. It was easy to see why she cared for him.

It was good. I love how the heroine gave the hero a run for his money. I will most definitely be reading the next in the series when it comes out. I adore this series so far.
