This storyline is very intriguing, I will admit at first when I was reading the book I personally thought it was moving too fast, and things were happening so fast without any real reason or details as to why. As well as some things were confusing, but I really like the overall idea behind the story and as I got further into it, it grabbed my attention more and more.

I'm really interested in learning more backstory to this world where the fire starters are from, it's definitely appealing. So I can't wait for the other books to learn more about this world that is just a portal jump away.

The characters themselves, Natasha, the main character, I do find her interesting but very confusing as well. Of course with the events that have happened to her I can completely understand why she was the way she was. I feel like she doesn't really know what she wants even tho she says she does.

But what happened to her at the end of the book has definitely gotten my attention, it's like holy sh*t I need answers to why this happens and etc. the end is quite the cliffhanger, like something happens and boom it's done and you are like what? Wait? I need answers and unfortunately we have to wait, blah.

I definitely can't wait for the next book to come out, I have so many questions and I'm excited to learn the answers about this world and all of these characters!!

I'm not really fond of writing reviews, I'm planning on doing some reviewing to the books I've read or at least started reading, have they been finished or not, but mostly of what I'm going to be writing will be basically just a piece of what was on my head while I was reading and some points and aspects that actually caught my attention and made me apreciate or not the books I've read or attempted to read!!
So pls don't shoot me down ;3

********************************************************************
I Really enjoyed this book *-*
I always get really excited when I read a paranormal story that is different from the usual!!
And I certainly loved the concept of
I always find a book more interesting when the main characters aren't involved in love triangles, I always liked the idea of the protagonist being decisive about who she likes or feels better with, maybe is because I'm sort like this and can't understand much the mind of a character that is always going back and foward between two or more guys.
So I liked how the romance was portrayed ;3
Another interesting aspect of this book that pleased me was . It actually helped to see other events that were happening or happened with the secondary characters and that were actually interesting to the plot.
Anyway, I really liked this book and It was a very easy and entertaining read, once I started It was hard to put it down ^-^

First, I wanted to thank my friend Shane for providing me with ARC copy of her book, in exchange for review. Unresisting was a book that I been wanting to read for while, so was happy when she contacted me, asking me if I like an e copy. It’s safe to say that after reading it, I fell in love with Shane Morgan’s novels even more. From moment I picked up the book, I was hooked into the story, it was unlike any fantasy that I read before. It was unique, the characters were out of this world, especially Nat & Chace. Unresisting is a story that you can’t help but get hooked into, a story that will keep you on edge of seat from start to the end. Each chapter, each page will have you eager for more. Once I reached the end, it had me wishing that the next book was out so I can see what happens with Natasha next. How can you not? Especially after a twist like that at the end? I don’t just want to see what happens next, I need to know what happens next.

It’s hard to not like Nat or Chace. At first when I met Chace I wasn’t sure what to think off him, I had a feeling that there was something not quite right about him. It just feeling I got about how he acted around Natasha at first. Right from start I could tell he was hiding something. I wondered right from beginning if he knew what Nat was just by the way that he watched her. Though she didn’t see it at first or at least I didn’t get feeling that she did, I could see the connection between the two of them. What I loved about her, she didn’t judge him like everyone else seemed to. I found myself rooting for them as the book progressed; I saw how much the two of them cared for one another. What the two of them have is true love. Now Jesse I had mixed feelings about, at times I liked him, others not that much. His attitude is what put me off most of time. At first I was sure he was nice to her, because he is used to getting what he wants, but as time passed, I could see that he cares for her, even though he shouldn’t have.

Story and the characters wasn’t only what I loved about book. The action was amazing too, there wasn’t a moment in the book where there wasn’t something going on. It was my type of book, this is what I love about Fantasy books. The cover was absolutely stunning; I believe that it would be one of first things that would capture anyone’s attention. Just look at it. It fits the story, the title. Of course the title is captivating as well. I know that this is fantasy but it felt real to me, I felt like I went onto journey along with Nat, like I connected with everyone when she did. I connected with her, and I believe that is one of main reasons why I fell in love with the story. I’m grateful that I have received an early copy. Shane Morgan took my breath away, and is one author that is going go far. She inspires me. If I could I would give this book more than 5 stars. A book worth picking up, a thrilling ride.

4.5 Stars for Debut Novel!!

I was gifted with the opportunity to read this novel by Shane in its ARC form. I have to say, Unresisting has a very interesting plot line, and is an intriguing story that manages to pull you into the narrative. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Natasha's story.

As a debut YA novel, I think it fits in greatly with other stories of its kind. Yes, it does share some of the same elements of other paranormal stories, such as girl moving to new place and making a discovery about herself, but I'm in no way going to pick this book apart because of that tiny detail, because not only did this story pull me in, but what YA PNR book doesn't have those elements? It seems to be in the majority of books, so I think it's fair and just to accept that as a trend that it is, and move on.

I thought Natasha's thoughts (the ones in italics) were often hilarious; I enjoyed being inside of Natasha's head.

For example: He leaned against his locker, arms folded and looking my way. The difference in his expression this time was that he seemed enchanted instead of shocked. Not that I cared, I was more concerned with the weird way he looked at me.His hair was cut just right, glossy black and ruffled; a few strands dangled over his dark brown eyes. His eyes! A force all by themselves that could possibly steal my soul if I dared to stare too long, not to mention his chiseled jaw-line twitched pleasingly at my presence.
He fitted perfectly in his black jeans, and I could see how buff he was in his dark blue shirt. Handsome was too much of an understatement. This guy was more like a Greek God straight out of mythology. But then again, I would’ve been mesmerized by all that had I been interested. I wasn’t.

I also LOVED the male lead. Okay...Just check this out:

He moved closer and lifted his hand lightly to touch my arm. I stepped back, nervously. His smile broadened, revealing perfection that glistened at me. "Did you think I was gonna kiss you just now, is that why you're shaking, breathing heavy, trying to get away from me?" Chace lowered his head only inches from my face, and whispered. "Your heart's pounding so loud I could hear it from the end of the hall."

“Wait…what are you…doing?”

It was soft, warm, passionate, and tasty. Chace planted his lips on mine. My tight grip on his jacket loosened and I gave myself to him entirely. I’ve never felt anything like that before, not in the few times I allowed Eric to kiss me. This was different. Chace stimulated something more, something deep and intense

and...

You can't get away from me, Nat. You and I, we're inevitable.

I admire how Nat doesn't give into him, not at first. He has to chase her around a bit, to get her to like him. Well, I think she was interested the entire time, BUT, of course, she has her suspicions and doesn't just buckle under because he's gorgeous.

Also, the whole fire-starter aspect of this novel was intriguing. I, in relation to my own reading experiences, have not encountered anything like this before, so I thought it was a fresh idea, which is fabulous.

Additionally, this novel had me glued to my seat, I didn't want to put it down. It's just....good

But....I didn't like that Cliffhanger! The ending left me needing to know more.

With all of that said, there were a few errors such as spelling mistakes and present tense, past tense shifting. However, this was an ARC and not a finished copy, so I believe the final version will have corrections. Also, the present tense, past tense shifting was found when Natasha swapped from narrating the story to giving us her thoughts in italics—I understood the sudden shift, though it was awkward. But tense can be tricky.

All in All, this was a great read, and I'm looking forward to book two.

DECEMBER 22, 2012 UPDATE -- Shane has gone through her book and done some extensive editing, so many of the editing issues I mention in this review might not be as big of a problem in more recent copies of the book. :)

I was happy to receive a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I'll make this a brief review compared to what I normally write.

First, the good:

The cover is absolutely beautiful. It just grabbed me.

The idea behind the story seems good, if also a bit routine when it comes to paranormal romances -- girl has extraordinary power that leads to tragedy and adventure, girl meets mysterious, reclusive boy who helps her work through her issues, girl fights bad guy who wants her mysterious powers for himself. Like I say, there isn't much here that is different than stories I've read before, but the idea is a good one.

Now, the bad:

Unfortunately I am one of those readers who gets really, really bent out of shape when there are excessive grammar and spelling errors in a book. I have come to realize that these are just things that I'm going to have to deal with if I want to continue to read indie self-published books, so I have tried to work through my issues as I read these stories. However, this book BADLY needed editing. Tenses went from present to past tense and back again. Dialogue was thrown around recklessly, sometimes not tied to the characters who were supposed to be speaking the lines. Idioms were used in the wrong context again and again. Often the first person narration was meant to be casual, but because of errors in spelling, punctuation, and grammar, it did not read correctly. Every rule of grammar I have known seemed to be thrown out the window in this book. Normally, I try to ignore these things, but when it is excessive it begins to pull me out of the story. That was the case here. A good edit could make a difference in this story.

The characters were not terribly likable. Nat could be hateful at times. I thought that she was particularly mean to several people as she entered her new high school. I may be totally off here, but it seems as if a new student would at least attempt to at least be polite to people who put themselves out there and try to talk to her. Nat did not, and so from the very beginning I wasn't her biggest fan. That is a problem when she is the main narrator of this story. Chace wasn't much better. I didn't hate him, but I never really got to know him enough to have any feelings about him. And although I don't normally have issues with insta-love stories, this one didn't work for me. I never felt any interest in the two of them as a love connection.

I wanted to like this story. I really did. I do give tons of kudos to Shane Morgan for publishing it. I'm not sure if this is a first novel or not. If so ... keep working. You've got the process down. With a little refinement you will continue to get better. Unfortunately for me, I can only give this one two stars, but I freely admit that I am an old fuddy-duddy when it comes to issues of grammar and editing, so others might be able to overlook these things and enjoy the story.

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review

I have read a couple of Ms. Morgan's new adult contemporary novels and enjoyed them, so I was very excited for a chance to read Unresisting. I have to say, I wasn't disappointed. The novel starts off with a bang (well, a crash) that is rather heart-wrenching, before we settle into the story and get to know main character Nat.

Nat lost her twin brother in a car crash right at the beginning of the book. He wasn't dead but gone, disappeared in a ball of fire. Not only that, but fire burned from Nat's hands right before the accident. She was confused, her parents thought she was delusional due to her brother's disappearance/death. I liked Nat, she was a touch sarcastic internally which I enjoyed. She also was quite accepting of people and their flaws which I found refreshing. Nat was on a quest to discover what happened to her, and Chace seemed to have some answers she desperately needed.

Chace had that whole loner, dark and brooding male thing going for him... but more on the creepy side rather than sexy. The way he acted when he first met Nat was, hmm, strange-- yes, let's go with strange. In fact the two of them together are the poster children for strange. I liked it, made the story more entertaining. As it turned out they were just so into each other it made for some very awkward scenes. Then there was the third in this love triangle, Jesse, who I started out disliking but warmed up to as the story progressed. I'm not much for love triangles though, so I'm going to stop there.

Unresisting is quite fast-paced and interesting. The plot was different from other paranormals, including Nat's abilities-- I found the whole thing rather intriguing. The mystery and twisting story kept me turning the pages. The ending was a tad unexpected which was good. It will definitely make the reader crave the next book in the series.

* I received an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. *

I have read author Shane Morgan's other books/series and have to say that they are all amazing! There is no way to choose just one of her books as my favorite, and reading this one didn't help with this decision either. This was the first book in this series and I have to say that it is just as riveting, smooth flowing, quick paced and exciting as all of her others! I love the way that she develops the characters, the banter between them and the overall storyline. Author Shane Morgan hit it out of the park with this one and I am looking forward to book 2 in the series so that I can see how Nat and her family overcome their issues and the death of Sean. I am also excited about the aspect of the "magic" that Morgan has infused into this series. It is intriguing, unique and fun! A total must-read for anyone who loves drama, magic and a bit of love.

Nat and Chase are like the ultimate power couple. They are in tune with each other and are able to figure out what strengths they draw from each other as well as highlight their weaknesses, and one of those weaknesses may be Jesse....Chase is a part of the Ledarians, and Jesse is an Arhaenian, and they are each other’s enemies....but Natasha has brought them closer than they want to be.

I can't wait to dive into the rest of the series and I know that it will be just as amazing as all of the other books that she has written. Add this one and all of her others to your TBR list ~ they are just too good to pass by! If you don't read anything by this amazing up and coming author you will be missing out on some wonderful stories, lessons and characters! Enjoy!!

I was provided with a copy of Unresisting in exchange for an honest review.

I honestly am having a hard time with this one. Unlike Shane's other books, I feel like this one wasn't ready to be out yet. It's a good idea, yes, but it needed MORE. I didn't quite understand what was happening. I felt like I was watching a movie in fast forward, never connecting with characters or grasping the plot and shaky transitioning. More detail into the characters and the history of the fire starters and all would have been a great help to liven up the story and make it seem more realistic. Also more scenes to create chemistry between the protagonist and her love. Some TLC and it'd be good to go. I do love the cover.

Blah! Hate writing unfavorable reviews. :( I know how hard it is for authors to put their stuff (themselves) out there and I know they are extremely sensitive to all criticism-- good and bad. I don't want to be a new formed doubt in someone's dream. Shane is a wonderful author and a writing machine...this one just wasn't my cup of tea.

This book was a fun, compelling read! I really enjoyed the main character, Nat, and felt intreagued the whole time. There are lots of unsolved mysteries that just kept me hooked :) I couldn't stop reading. Chace seems handsome and really dark and mysterious. I like the concept of him.
Fun, quick and a great distraction!
Some things were a bit confusing, I need a little more backstory from Ledron, so I can understand better the relationships. They got a bit muddled in my brain.
I'll keep reading the series to understand more about this world and its characters! :) Can't wait to see how they develop :D

Thanks Shane for sending me your book! :) I'm definetly going to keep reading! :D

DNF. 30% in and I’m bored of this one. It’s way too slow and I’m kinda sick of the whole clueless girl, mysterious guy thing. It feels dragged out.

This book started off good, but then it felt like it was going in the Twilight direction. Girl moves to new school, guy that never talks to anyone talks to her and he sits at a table in the lunch room by himself. I didn’t think that I would continue reading it, but I did. I’m glad I went on because that’s where the similarities ended. I still think it was a little short and I found a few errors, but he author said she is fixing them now. :D Other than that I think this was a good book, nothing fancy. It is a good book to read if you have a few extra hours to kill. With that being said, the ending left me wanting more. The ending was GREAT!!! I was like no way man no way. I was not expecting that and I loved it. I know that I have to read the next one ASAP!!!! I need to know what happens. I’ve also read other books about fire starters, but mainly they were adult books. I like how she changed a few things up and threw in a few twists. I highly enjoyed that. I have high hopes for this series and I know it can only get better from here.

Nat: I was hoping that she was going to be a stronger character. She was in her own way, I guess. I think in the next one we will really find out how strong she is. She was a likable character and I can’t wait to see how she handles her current situation. EEP

Chace: He was not what I was expecting either. I was hoping for a kinda bad boy that has a soft side, but Chace is an all-around good guy that wants to be with Nat. He also seemed a little clinging and I hope that he isn’t like that in the next one.

Jesse: Now he is someone that I liked. I guess you would call him the bad guy in this book, but I don’t think he is bad at all. He just doesn’t know all the details yet and I’m hoping he will change sides.

Favorite Quotes: I couldn’t just pick one LOL

If this was one of Mom’s romance novels we would’ve been experiencing insta-love by now

Well good for him. He had a garage full while I still had my training bike

“What….are you doing?” Chace stood at the door taking in the show. My antics must’ve entertained him. He appeared to have recovered some of his strength. I tossed the pillow back on the bed. “I was…umm…just- “You were just kissing my pillow, passionately.”

After her twin brother died, Natasha and her family moved to Stetson Valley, where she met people who seemed to want her for reasons that she couldn’t comprehend. While she felt drawn to Chace, a classmate of her English Literature class, she didn’t know if she could fully trust him. With mysterious things kept happening, Natasha felt as though she were constantly being watched. Could she solve the mystery of her twin brother’s death before she became the next victim?

I liked the story, I was eager to learn more about everything that was going on, but for some reason, I didn’t feel as emotionally invested as I’d hope. It could probably be me, as I had the assumption that Natasha was still quietly mourning for the death of her twin brother, but in the story, other than learning about how Natasha was troubled by haunted dreams, she appeared otherwise unaffected.

I guess my main issue was that I couldn’t quite determine if I wanted to extend my sympathy for Natasha. In the story, Natasha was recovering from a rebellious past. She seemed to be unsure of what she really wanted. She had contradictory thoughts about being open and honest with her parents. Her mind seemed to be quite judgmental about many things and while she felt attracted to those whom she knew could lead to trouble, she didn’t choose to stay away from them. I knew her life was messed up, but even when I took into consideration that there were a lot of things that were outside of her control, I still felt a bit baffled by all the risks that she took in the story.

But don’t take me wrong, Natasha is not a character with only bad traits. On the opposite end, you can tell she is a person who really understands troubled teens. And when she spots a troubled soul, her instinct is to reach out and help that person. So, you can say it’s really not her fault when things don’t often end in a good way.

Overall, I had an enjoyable time reading the book. I’d say the story is fairly entertaining despite the issues that I had with the main character. The strange or supernatural elements were not what I initially supposed and I appreciated the unpredictable turns of events. Hopefully the next book would be as entertaining if not more eventful than this one.

I have read 3 other books by Shane Morgan which have been Young and New Adult Contemporary Romances. For me, Unresisting is a step outside my ‘Shane Morgan’ comfort zone and I was also reminded that, in fact, it was her debut novel.
Unresisting is a baptism of fire . . literally! In the first chapter, Nat watches flames explode from her palms as her twin brother, Sean, disappears into a pile of ash. The loss of Sean has a profound effect on Nat, especially when she realises that no-one will believe her story. It is not until her family’s move to Stetson Valley that the puzzle of her life begins to fit together.
Love triangles are possibly one of my least favourite elements of any romance, but Nat sits right at the centre of one here. On one side is the persistent Jesse and the other is the “weird” Chace. Both young men seem immediately drawn to Nat, but it is Chace whom she chooses, perhaps because he seems to hold answers to so many of her questions,

” My mom always told me you’d somehow come to me one day, that we’re supposed to be together. She said that there’s always someone born just for us. And as long as we were together, then I’d survive. Nat, you’re going to decide whether or not I live past my eighteenth birthday next year.”

Although the relationship between Nat and Chace is an important part of Unresisting, Shane Morgan does not allow it to overwhelm more essential parts of the story, like the existence of a parallel world in which fire starters and light bearers are born. It is this concept which ties Jesse, Chance and Nat together tighter and places our main female character in a danger she would never have imagined possible.
In Unresisting, Nat grows in strength as we watch her gain control over her powers – and making humorous mistakes! Shane Morgan maintains a three-way balance between the story’s fantasy, it’s romance and suspense. I think the author allows us to connect with her characters, in particular Nat, because certain plot details are revealed to us all at the same time.
Unresisting ends with an explosive cliffhanger and if I wasn’t convinced I needed to grab a copy of Unfearing before Nat’s final two words, I certainly was after them! I am really excited to recommend Shane Morgan’s Paranormal Romance to other readers!

An Electronic Advanced Reader Copy was provided by the author for review. Quotes have been pulled from an ARC and may be subject to change.

Natasha’s twin brother has died in what she believes to be an accident, but ever since that night, she has intense power that seems to run through her like fire. Her parents move her back to her mom’s small home town of Stetson, and there she meets two new friends, and the resident loner boy named Chase. Together, they stop a growing evil and find out what it means to be a fire starter.

City girl moves to a small town, and falls in lust with the resident hottie who also happens to be the loner. Sound familiar? I’m not going to bother which book I’m comparing to but it seems pretty straight forward. BUT, there’s also the paranormal powers that intrigued me from the very beginning. I’ve always had a love for the unknown, and when a character suddenly start bursting into flame, I’m only intrigued even further to find out what happens.

Natasha seemed quite the “hot head” and I’m not talking about her supernatural powers. Her potty mouth kept me from liking her, and her lovey-dovey relationship with Chase. No one falls in love at first sight in real life, but I guess it’s all right in young adult novels. You feel like it’s love, but it’s not, and that’s the big attraction YA romances have to offer.

The plot seemed pretty predictable, and the characters left much to be desired, but overall it was a good read. I was entertained to say the least, and managed to keep reading.

Character Development
Not a whole lot of development, but at least the characters powers grow.

Pacing
Good, not too slow and not too fast.

Cover/Design
The photo of the model is gorgeous, but the background is too dark, and the title is lost. A re-design is needed.

Plot
Interesting enough to keep reading if you don’t mind cliche characters and a predictable plot.

Overall
A great read for any paranormal or supernatural fan, but if you’re not into cheesy romances be sure to skip it.

December Update:
Shane sent me an updated, edited version, I just haven't had a chance to re-read it.

Original Review:
This review is based off a copy sent to me from the author for a blog tour of which I posted an excerpt. I decided I wanted to continue reading the story because I was intrigued by the excerpt. I want to preface my review by stating the author may or may not have revised the book since then, but I can only review what I received.

Pros:

I actually enjoyed this story and found that the storyline captivated me right away. I was confused at times with certain plot elements, but found all the twists and turns of the plot still engaging. The whole fire-starter and soul-mate elements were interesting, plus the fact that there was another connecting world was also intriguing. I liked the little ways we started to get to know the characters.

Cons:

It felt like a first draft, which I know it wasn't. I felt like there was so much more potential in the story if it would have been developed further, scenes flushed out with more detail, and characters developed to a deeper level. Although I liked the story, I wanted more, and felt like there was something missing. It could also use a good editing job to clean up the grammar and sentence structure.

Overall:

It is an enjoyable, engaging story, but with room for improvement. I am interested in where the sequel will go, as we were left on a cliff-hanger. Hopefully the author's story development and writing will improve with the sequel, because she has a lot of potential and I'd like to see where this story goes. I know, I used the dredded "p" word, but it feels appropriate.

REVIEW
New to me author.

The story begins with a set of twins named Natasha and Sean. After a car accident, Sean just up and disappears after some weird fire stuff.
As the story continues, Natasha's family moves into her grandmothers home in another state. This is her last year of high school and now it is in a new place making new friends.

Natasha is rather freaked to learn a few of those friends know exactly what is happening and as she begins to learn, she knows one thing. It is freaky.

Natasha does not know who to trust but in the end she places her trust on the one who captured her attention in the beginning.

The ending leaves us with a cliffhanger, The story is well written although it does not give us much back story. I found myself confused in many areas of the story like I was not getting enough but overall it was a fascinating read.

I was gifted this book for my honest review.

I read an early ARC of this book and grammatical & spelling errors and some inconsistency in plot really bugged me. I was provided by the new version of ARC with corrected errors but I really didn't like the characters enough to re-read it again.
