When destiny called, she pressed 1 for more options
With the name Robyn Fortune, shouldn't luck be a sure thing? Instead, black clouds love me. All I did was show up at a family bar mitzvah and cue lightning... this huge storm blew in.
My mom announced she was leaving my dad and moving in with me. (Perfect! More competition on JDate.) I found out my boss planned to fire me. (Help wanted: Be the exclusive makeup artist for a two-faced network news star.) My ex's gambling debts left me near bankruptcy. (Please buy our wedding gifts on craigslist.) But, good news. I was offered money to date a man who had worse luck than me. (Dear Visa, I hope you appreciate that I said yes.)
If not for my friend Rachel, I would have chickened out. Instead, I went to his apartment, spotted an old photo, and realized it was HIM! The boy I was mad for in college but never got to meet. And get this! Turns out our paths had been crossing since birth.
Coincidence or karma? Our finagling families wouldn't talk... until the day destiny sent me on a wild ride that became my long lost spiritual journey.
Ladies, take my advice. When fate knocks, answer the damn door!
I found this book to be an exhausting emotional roller coaster. I felt like it was a little heavy in places and at least once I said "oh enough already!" Not the best book I've read lately, but I enjoyed it.
It's chick lit. definitely. Not my favorite, but it was entertaining and an easy read. I like how everything turned out in the end. Kind of unexpected at times which was also a good thing.
This book was okay. Robyn's character development took too long. Ken's profession of love only happened three chapters before the book ended. I get the plot and I'm taking away a good lesson about fate and how it works in mysterious ways, but I wouldn't keep this book or read it again.
Favorite Quotes: "Baby, we were born to be together. Please give me a chance" (written under a baby picture of Robyn and Ken in the hospital as newborns)
"I got that when you thought you were a victim of difficult circumstances, it was in actuality the spin cycle of life. A cycle who's sole intent was to make sure you came out facing the right direction and ready to start clean."

Robyn Fortune is, to say the least, down on her luck. It seems that in the last few years nothing has gone her way. A big believer in luck Robyn fully believes that hers has run out. However, in a twist of fate Robyn finds herself on a date with the man she lusted after during her college years only to find out his luck has been a little bit worse than hers as of late. Fortunately for Robyn though meeting her old college crush, Ken, seems to have given her luck a boost. Now Robyn needs to find a way to help turn Ken's luck around as well and, hopefully, into her arms!
'FATE & MS. FORTUNE' is the first novel by Saralee Rosenberg that I have read and although I'd heard great things about Claire Voyant I don't think that this particular book was her best effort. I found the writing to be a bit jumbled and the main character, Robyn Fortune, a bit annoying at times. The book did redeem itself some by the end but overall I found 'FATE AND MS. FORTUNE' to be just an okay read.
"2.5 out of 5 stars. What can I say I was hoping for more .... I like Robyn on the aspect that YES she is a really strong character in her beliefs and what she'll do for others. However .... sometimes the storyline dragged a bit. =0P Too bad."
What I loved about this book most was how spiritual it was, how it tied pieces of magic and religion and energies together, about how welcoming fate and faith in someone's life can accomplish something close to happiness
I liked the heroine's self-deprecating voice, but the non-stop bad news, confusion over which guy was her fate, and her two-faced friends made for some slow going. The funny side characters helped lighten the load and the Jewish heroine was a fresh perspective.
I was engaged till the very end, because I was eagerly waiting to see how it ended, but I was very disappointed when the main character decided to marry the huge asshole!!! Shame, shame, shame.
