Take a Chance, book 1, Kiss a Girl in the Rain is our first meeting with the Chance's children.
I don't usually go for romance books that are not steamy but I liked the sound of this series and I am really pleased that I gave it a go.

Evan is likeable and sweet but also strong and adventurous, and it is instant attraction when he meets Caitlyn Sorenson,  an independent, interesting, small town doctor. I really liked the circumstances under which they met and the way that the romance developed, though I would have found it more believable over a longer time period.

Even the less central characters are well thought out and well developed and the feel of small town community and caring about others is a big part of what makes this book so enjoyable.

Teri Schnaubelt's narration is incredibly well done. The differing voices are well defined and recognisable and she maintains a pleasant flow to the whole story. I do have one criticizm, the passionate moments could have done with a little more passion in the voice acting.

I am really looking forward to meeting other members of the Chance family on this blog tour.

I received these audiobooks as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Nancy Warren. The gifting of these audiobooks did not affect my opinion of them.

I found this novel (170 pages) on the Kindle Store for free and so I thought I would give it a try. I thought that this was a very sweet romantic lovestory, that will instantly give you a lift when you read it. It is very well written and shows how talented Nancy Warren is by how she manages to get the reader involved in the lovestory between the characters and really makes you feel like they are real people and makes you root for them. The characters that feature in the novel are likeable, easy to relate to, easy to connect to and just great characters all round! A really super novel to read.

Kiss a Girl in the Rain by Nancy Warren is a keeper for many reasons, but especially since it matches the theme of my blog. After living through too many hard knocks, I decided to track my lifestyle goals by creating TheZestQuest.com. It’s all about finding your zest in every aspect of your life. To appreciate every minute of every day, and to be thankful, even for the difficult moments, as they make us who we are.

Even before this website was formed, I had been trying to live that life. The website just reminds me to stay focused, and not let the messy stuff sway me from the positive that’s there if we look hard enough. Books remind me of those special moments that drive my own journey.

Why was this book in Dorine’s TBR? I collect freebies, especially category length or less. They relax me in-between the larger books I read as a steady diet. I couldn’t resist the cover of this one. It’s soft in tone, romantic, and has a cute dog in an outdoor setting with beautifully set font. I’m drawn to a well-designed cover like a moth to a flame. This one spoke to me in every way. And the story matched my love for the cover! Yay!

Unfortunately, this was one of those months when our TBR theme did not work for me. I tried to find something spooky in my TBR, but after reading the amazing The Widow of Rose House by Diana Biller, nothing else would satisfy. Then I tried suspense and that lasted about five minutes. Finally, I just couldn’t settle long enough to get into any book I picked up, until this cutie-pie.

Review…

Kiss a Girl in the Rain by Nancy Warren is a beautiful story that reflects my yearning for a zestful life. I liked the concept of this one right away. Thirty-five-year-old wealthy lawyer gets a wake-up call. Maybe his Hippie mom saving his twelve-year-old self’s bucket list is just what he needs. Get on that motorcycle and run far away…go on, leave life behind and discover who you really are…. I couldn’t wait to see where he lands.

Running away from home has been my mantra. It can be only twenty minutes away at our favorite camping spot in the woods that refills my zestful soul. Running away from home is a frame of mind. It’s a way to leave the worries behind and recharge so that you can face whatever comes your way.

In my opinion, it doesn’t matter how you find your zest, only that you focus and take those you love on your journey. Evan figures this out in this book.

Evan’s Amazing Life list pushes him out on the road, but he doesn’t expect to almost kill a stray dog and wreck his bike in a small town while finding his bliss. Serendipitous fate leads him to a doctor who makes him wonder long and hard about his list and his future.

Caitlyn is a wonderful heroine. As a small-town doctor, she also experienced a rebirth after giving up her super-charged days as a big city surgeon. That doesn’t mean she has it all figured out, even if she thinks she does.

They’re both ready for love, but that doesn’t mean they won’t need a few reality smacks upside the head to make them recognize it!

I loved this story. The characters are likable and easy to root for from the very beginning. At 194 pages, it’s a fun one-sitting read, and at $2.99 for the digital copy, what’s to lose? I believe you’ll smile and sigh at the perfect HEA conclusion.

The best part is that I discovered Nancy Warren. Oh, I’ve heard of her, but never took the time to try her books. I immediately downloaded the freebie Chance Encounter: Prequel, which is about Evan’s parents and all the kids they brought into their home. That’s another favorite theme of mine – adopted or foster children who find a loving home. I’ll read that next.

There are so many reasons I loved this book that I needed a list. The main character taking a trip across country to find himself. I love a road trip. A doctor with no wanderlust curious enough about this man to take a chance. Small town docs are the best. Hippie parents who obviously love the kids they’ve connected with over the years. Which means lots more books to read about Evan’s siblings. An adorable ugly dog. Lots of love. And it made me smile. A lot.

Great book and TBR Challenge success!

You know when you see a book for free on Kindle, and even though it looks like it may be a bit fluffy, you think - "I could do with a bit of escapism after all the zombies and wars and post-apocalyptic crime and missing women I've been reading about lately?" and your gut tells you - don't, it's free for a reason, DON'T...

Listen to your gut.

The main reason this caught my eye was because of the title - "Kiss a Girl in the Rain" is one of the items on main character Evan's bucket list, the one he wrote when he was 12 years old. To BE kissed in the rain was something I was obsessed with as a teenager, mainly because of this ad:

description

Corporate lawyer Evan Chance receives a card from his mother for his 35th birthday containing a bucket list he wrote when he was 12. When something happens in his professional life to make him realise how short life is, he sets off to cross the items off the list. Good premise, yes?

Unfortunately, this didn't come together for me. When the title is something as simple as "Kiss a Girl in the Rain", you don't expect graphic sex scenes halfway through the book. There was no tension, no simmering attraction - just immediate attraction, immediate sex, and still he was just going to leave. One minute he was driving it home to himself saying it was just a fling, hoping the lady wouldn't call him, then two pages later he's on the phone to her telling her he misses her? WHAT?!

Also, considering the characters are 35, the description of a newborn baby as "gross looking" is just unbelievable. As is the notion that a doctor (who has clearly specialized in every type of medicine going, from veterinary to paediatrics) would tell her heavily pregnant patient, friend or no friend, that she would damage her child by worrying about her pregnancy because people who worry instill fear into their children. WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT. Evan's intolerance of Caitlyn's penchant for organization was downright insulting, referring to her as being "sexually repressed" because she didn't have batteries and other bits of rubbish in her cutlery drawer and didn't like knick-knacks and tat. Being shocked at someone who lives alone because they know where everything in their house is? Get the boat, love.

The typos really irritated me, "lady's first" instead of "ladies first" (twice), "lo" written instead of "all", and the shortening of the word siblings to "sibs" on two occasions was uncalled for.

Free or not, this was a complete waste of time. Too many scenarios, too many characters, insta-love, typos, loose ends, unlikeable characters. Baffled by all the 4/5 star reviews.

A sweet, traditional romance novel. Evan and Caitlyn are both very likable characters. Evan is on a trip across the country when he has to stop for a while in a small town for repairs to his motorcycle. The same small town where Caitlyn is the doctor. An injured dog provides the opportunity for them to meet and romance follows. There are some mild sex scenes but mostly it is two people falling in love.

A joyful, fun read that gave me all the “feels.” I liked the almost narrative way it was written. I was inside both characters. I loved the town and the residents, believed in the romance, and wanted to take the dog! Also, ❤️ the Chance family.

Fav lines during the black moment- “”I think if a woman’s loved she has a right to know it. And a man should be strong enough to admit his feelings.””

Damn good story.

I was so lucky to win a copy of "Kiss a Girl in the Rain (Take a Chance:Book 1). I feel so good after reading this book."Kiss a Girl in the Rain" is a supersweet lovestory of a young man of age 35 who goes looking for adventure and finds love. Normally I read mystery suspense thrillers and some contemporary romance novels, but this novel was a refreshing change from the norm.

I loved the concept of the story before I even started reading it. The book reminded me of the movie "The Bucket List". When we are kids we are innocent, and have all these crazy things we want to do, and if hold on to that innocence, we might follow through with these dreams.

Evan Chance, thirty five years young, gives up on his successful corporate law career, to follow through with the "Bucket List" he wrote when he was twelve. He might have money...but he never completed one of the items on his to-do-list. It was now or never!

Caitlyn Sorenson gave up a career in New York as a trauma surgeon, due to stress, and now is a county G.P., in her own business, living and working in Miller's Pond.

Then a motorcycle accident, and a homeless stray changes the future for all involved. But they both knew their relationship couldn't last for ever.

This is the kind of book that will make you feel happy. Being a dog lover, I love the scruffy dog, who plays a major part in this book.

Evan Chance seemingly has it all a great career, loving family, "perfect" girlfriend and more money then he would ever need. He is a brilliant lawyer partner in a top firm in Seattle, his birthday is approaching and his mom sends him a birthday card and a list of adventures and things he wanted to accomplish at the age of 12. He takes his girlfriend home to meet his wonderful crazy "hippie" parents and some of his siblings, the visit does not go well and ends with a life changing phone call. He decides to leave his law practice and do the items on his list

Within the first 2 days his life changes again and the rest they say is history I can't say anymore or I will spoil the book, but I will say I laughed, cried and cheered and laughed again..... you have to read this book it is a beautiful love story with some interesting characters

Evan Chance has just turned 35, and his life has just blown up around him.

He was a successful lawyer in Oregon, being mentored by the managing partner who expected Evan would eventually succeed him, and engaged to beautiful, smart, ambitious fellow attorney Tessa. Then his mother sent him the "life goals list" he wrote when he was twelve, his mentor died suddenly, and he discovered how nakedly ambitious Tessa really was.

He decided he couldn't get out of there fast enough. He takes a sabbatical, gets his motorcycle out of his parents' garage in rural Oregon, and heads out to accomplish item one on his list: motorcycle across the country.

Evan isn't out of Oregon when he hits a dog, and asks the local police chief, who happens to be passing by, where to find the local vet. The police chief indulges a misguided sense of humor, and Evan meets Caitlyn Sorenson, the local doctor.

Caitlyn is staying put. Evan is only staying until the damage to his bike is repaired. And he definitely doesn't intend to keep the stray dog he hit. Definitely not. He's going to find the poor dog's owner.

But Evan is stuck until his bike is fixed, and he's a social guy who makes connections.

I like Evan and Caitlyn, and many of her neighbors. It's a small, close-knit town where her grandfather was the previous doctor. If it seems her parents may not have been quite so likable, well, we don't have to meet them. And as Evan meets people, and puts up posters trying to find the owner of the dog he hit, people keep calling him offering him everything he might need, if he came to his senses and decided to stay.

I enjoyed getting to know Caitlyn, Evan, and the town.

Recommended for a pleasant, fun romance.

I received a free electronic copy of this book from the author, and am reviewing it voluntarily.

3.5 stars. Cute and easy romance told from the guy's point of view.

Evan is 35 and suddenly finds himself having an early midlife crisis. He's partner on one of the country's most prestigious law firms, he's engaged to marry a beautiful woman and he's made millions from a work he's really good at.

And he's not happy.

So he decides it's time to take a break and go for some of his unfulfilled dreams, dreams he has penned in a list he wrote when he was 12 and that include awesome things like "kiss a girl in the rain"

You can imagine the rest. This has a simple enough plot: boy meets girl, they fall in love, they live happily ever after. There's no drama and no plot twists, perfect to read when you want something fast paced and uncomplicated.

Kiss a Girl in the Rain by Nancy Warren
Take a Chance Series Book 1
Evan Chance has it all, or does he? He's in a top law firm, dating a beautiful woman and he has plenty of money. What else is there? When his mom sends a birthday card that includes his “bucket list” from when he was twelve, it haunts him a bit. How could he be so successful at almost thirty-five years old and not have accomplished some of the simple things on this list? Where did all the time go? And when something happens to someone he cares deeply for...it's like a wake-up call to start living.

Doctor Caitlyn Sorenson lives in the tiny town of Miller's Pond. Most days it's great to know all your neighbors. Other times it can drive you crazy that they know every time you fart. One of those times is when the darkly handsome biker dude passes through town. Kind of hard to escape the eyes of the town when they do not want to lose their only doctor in town, and have hopes of her marrying the chief of police.

This was such a good story that it was hard to set down until the end. Evan's troubles start with an ugly dog that soon grabs the reader's heart. Sometimes life is so busy while we chase endless dreams...that it's easy to miss what is right in front of us. I'm not sure what the second book will be about at this time, but I'm definitely excited to read more in this series.

This is the first book in the series. I read the second book, Iris in Bloom a few days ago and quite liked it and as this one was free decided to give it a read too.

Evan Chance was a very successful, high powered attorney. But when his boss and close friend died, Evan realized he wanted more from life and he decided todo everything he wrote on a "bucket list" he wrote when he was twelve. The first item on the list was ride a motorcycle across the country. So he chucked his job, got out his old motorcycle and hit the open road when he was sidetracked barely 40 miles away because of a dog/motorcycle collision. Not to worry, the dog was fine but that was his introduction to Caitlyn Sorenson, small town doctor. Because Evan has been grounded for a few days because of motorcycle repairs, the two of them give in to the sparks that fly between them. But then Evan is forced to choose, continue with his list, or stay where he has found a place he belongs.

This wasn't a deep book, but it is a nice, warm book that often made me smile. Both characters were well developed, as well as the dog that brought them together. I have no problems recommending this book to those wanting a nice, aw shucks kind of read that will leave feeling nice and cozy inside.

Kiss a Girl in the Rain by Nancy Warren is about Evan who is a very rich man in a successful law career who wrote a Life List about what he wants to do when he was young. After his mother had given him the list, he decided to achieve all this points in his bucket list. But after an accident he is stuck in a small town where he meets Caitlyn, a wonderful woman.

This book was a very light read. It is not very long and the story is not very complex. Evans Life Bucket List is something I always wanted to do and I think it is a very nice thing to do. He has some very interesting points in it.

Some things I did not like very much about this book were reactions or actions the both protagonists did. They were not really relateable sometimes.

This book is a quick read and perfect for romance lovers. I really enjoyed it.

This was a pretty good book. I'm going with 3 1/2. I would probably read it again, but I wouldn't search and rescue it. I liked the characters and would definitely like to get to know the others more. This was written well, had emotions, some humor, strength, introspection, good side characters and the perfect HEA. This is a great comfy cocoa kinda read to curl up with during the cold or after a hectic day. Enjoy!

"List made needs to be completed . . . "

Evan Chance was just the opposite of his name. He did not take any chance until a life changing event placed all his beliefs in a tale-spin. He has a loving family mixed with it diversity and free living. He had a job that he seemed to like but little time for much else. When he made the decision to take charge of his life was when the story of Evan Chance really began. He found freedom on the road and an unneeded set of complications to his plan to ride cross-country on his motorcycle. Homely was just the coolest. Caitlyn was unplanned for but much desired. She was more that just check points on his list. I enjoyed this romance and the background of both characters. The secondary characters were added bonuses. I did find a few contradictions with some of the background info but I am confident that once things smooth on in to some of the other family members things will clarify.

Teri Schnaubelt was smooth and flowing with her narration of this audio. I found no bone to pick with the way her voice lulled me in to a new romance and a new town. She open the door for new friends with her voicing, pitch, pacing, and timing.

He's unsettled and unhappy so takes off on a quest to fulfill a bucket list written at the tender age of 12, she's settled and content after running away from a lifetime of unhappiness when they crash into each other and find that both needed a lesson in love and happiness. The lesson may come too late for them to make it through together, but both will need to grow quickly in order to weather the storm. A sweet romance story with a "moral to the story" undertone of finding your happiness where you are and in who you are rather than seeking it from external locations. The plot is very well done and will wrap it's way around your heart. Overall a quite enjoyable listen and I am looking forward to hearing more stories from this series!

In the opening chapter we are given a picture of Evan as the hard-core corporate lawyer. The next chapter he’s at his childhood home, which does a good job of showing us how different his two worlds are. When his mentor at the law firm dies, it’s the catalyst (along with an old ‘bucket list’ he wrote when he was twelve) for Evan to leave his job and embark on a cross-country motorcycle ride. I didn’t really get why he was close to the older lawyer, when he apparently still had reservations about some of the work the firm did. At any rate, the fun begins when he hits a dog with his motorcycle in tiny Miller’s Pond. The romance is short (five days) but sweet, with just the right amount of heat. I did think Evan’s change from hard-charging corporate lawyer to laid-back was too smooth and too easy. And I would have liked to see him have to work a little harder to woo his woman. But overall, an enjoyable, light read.

Warm, funny and sweet

This was a delightful book to read. It had lovely characters who exuded warmth, passion and a sense of reality, of normality despite the romance tag and expected happy ever after that goes with it. I didn’t enjoy it because it was a romance. I enjoyed it because I couldn’t resist the atmosphere the author created.

To Kiss a Girl in the Rain is one of the items on Evan Chance's Amazing Life List that he wrote at age 12 and started at age 35. In a few hundred miles he stopped after a dog ran in front of his motorcycle and it needed repairs. He took the dog to Caitlyn Sorenson, MD and found what he was looking for when he started his adventure.

The book is full of fun, good friends, helping others and making new friends. Evan works on learning Spanish, helps his new Spanish instructor with a legal problem, finds a new jog, a dog and the woman of his dreams. It is a beautiful romance.

I recieved this book in my mail yesterday. I started reading it this morning, and now, it's finished (and in the mean time I have also done some shoping, studying and socializing). "Kiss a Girl in the Rain" is a supersweet lovestory of a young man of age 35 who goes looking for adventure and finds love.

Okey, that sounds really cliche. It might be that way, I suspected the book to be that way in the beginning, but it ended up being a totally fine book. Nothing really predictable at all. Where I suspected the love story to turn right, it turned left. Okay, I must admit, sometimes I saw things coming. However, this book isn't as predictable as most super-sweet lovestory books.

First to say, in my opinion, this book deserves a better cover. I do not really like the cover, for my it looks a bit 'old', like it's an older book. On the other hand, that might also be because I do not read many books with movie scene like covers. I think it is just a matter of taste.

I like the characters. Evan is a sexy hottie on a bike, although he doesn't get really far biking untill he finds love (but let's not spoiler too much). I think his characters shows some good development. He goes from being a man who thinks he has what he want, to being someone who doesn't know what he wants, to having something he thinks he doesn't want, to leaving something he feels he want, and finally getting the things he truly wants. I know, it sounds complicated, but I like his character.
I also like Doc (as I still call her in my head since I do not bother to remember the names of book characters, I recognize them as a character, but I couldn't possible think of her name right know). She is so careful protecting everything and being the perfect doctor to letting the most dangerous guy (one that is about to leave) into her heard. I love it. She shows that sometimes you should let the control go and simply see what is going to happen.

Overall, this book will give you a pleasant time reading. It's the kind of book that will make you feel happy.

Kiss a Girl in the Rain is a cute, well written story. This is another one where I thought it would just be a quick summer read but it was actually more. The writing was great, the story well thought out, it was just a really good read.

Evan is a successful lawyer at one of the top firms in Seattle. He has a great mentor and second father figure he works with and a girlfriend who is also a lawyer at the firm. When his mom sends him his list of life goals he wrote when he was 12 and he realize he did not accomplish much since then he is a bit unsettled. He is not really liking his life at the moment, and when his mentor passes and he sees his girlfriend for what she really is, what they really are, he gets out. He is off to have adventures and complete his list, only he doesn't get very far. He gets stuck in a small town not far from where he started waiting for a part for his bike.

Caitlyn came from a wasp family. She was never good enough no matter what she did. She was a fancy surgeon in New York City and was living the life her parents wanted for her, always trying to gain their approval. Of course it never came and when things start to go south she runs to her grandfathers practice in the same small town Evan gets stuck in. She is the doctor there and tries to keep her life neat and organized and safe. That doesn't include having an affair with the hot drifter, but she decides to go for it.

They both know Evan is leaving soon, but they can't stay away. It was nice watching these two very different but very similar people find their way together. They were sweet and you know what will happen at the end, but still it was a sweet read. I really enjoy it and all of the characters in the book. From the homely dog to the crazy towns people offering Evan everything from a job to places to live it was a lot of fun.

Cute story.

Successful and wealthy Evan Chance turns 35 and his mother gives him the "life list" that he wrote when he was 12 and he realizes that he hasn't accomplished anything he wanted to. He gives up his career to travel by motorcycle across the country. He's not even out of the state when he accidentally hits a stray dog in a small town. Caitlyn helps him and in turn they start a relationship.

This is a light read, which would have been made better had there been more sexual tension between the two.
They have a fun/witty banter, but nothing laugh out loud hilarious.

Ending was expected and borders on trite.

Funny typo -- Evan orders a beer and asked for an IPO... I'm pretty sure he wanted an IPA -- India Pale Ale, not Initial Public Offering.
