THIS BOOK!!!!

ok. yeah ok. so i've waited months to read this, like i preordered this in june and because reasons i don't know i didn't get my copy until mid-august BUT WHATEVER. anyways, this is the 4th volume of the public school series and it's a stand-alone. meaning you can totally read this without reading the other previous volumes. all characters are new, and it takes place in the same school that rei and ed and the rest of the boys went to.

this book was nothing like i thought it would be. it's so different from the other volumes. just go in with a blank mind. expect nothing. you'll end up with everything. basically, the school comprises of grades 3-7 (ages 13-14 to 18) and in each dorm (i think there's 13 dorms in all, oi my memory), you have 3 prefects (think RAs) for each grade level, plus a headboy who is in charge of the students in that dorm - basically, level boss. you get recruited to be a prefect when you're a 5th year, based on your grades and overall potential. the headboy is recruited by the staff worker who manages the dorm and the current headboy. ANYWAYS. the story focuses on keito and stan, both prefects for the 6th years. the other prefect is albert, stan's fraternal twin brother.

keito is half japanese, half english, and struggles with his depression of being constantly alone. his past is really sad (his mom is a bitch) (she's a total fucking bitch) (he was raped by his foster father). no one sees him as being british even though he was born and raised in england. everyone calls him "that asian guy" and his appearance stands out in this narrow-minded, posh, aristocratic atmosphere. even if he's in a room full of people, he still feels alone. he gets the best grades (A+ baby), and gives off the image that he does everything with perfection. he tries his best to not stand out and to not make enemies. to be friendly and helpful. but it's all an act because whenever chance he gets, he hides himself from others. and stan, the school's playboy, sees right through this. stan also has his own traumatic past that affects him to this day. there's a reason why stan, who is naturally gifted and was once the top of his class, is now known for skipping classes and dorm duties and sleeping around. but in the background, stan continues to help those in need by helping them with their studies...

i was afraid stan was going to be an asshole seme from the beginning, and he did rub me the wrong way when he made fun of keito for being raped in the past and harboring a fear of sex because of his PTSD (bitch?) but stan was also sexually abused by his biological mother AND SO, with that plus being pissed with keito's behavior in the beginning could have possibly caused him to say that out of anger. BUT STILL, YOU DON'T SAY SHIT LIKE THAT. JEEZUS. aside from that, stan is an amazing guy. he's the kind of person that may seem like a lazy ass who plays around, but in the background, he's helping the weak and he's extremely talented and bright.

btw, keito's tears are beautiful. omfg. how can a character's tears be so beautiful?? i'm telling you. keito may seem calm and stern on the outside, but this book is in his pov, so you know... he's really fragile. especially when you understand what happened to him in his past, oh baby. aside from atsurou from mushi #4, keito is like my favorite misao uke. his pain, his loneliness, his sorrow. omfg, everything. i love him.

the side characters are ballin' here. i love them omgggggg. fuck romanizing their names, but utley? and cecil. those boys ARE SO PRECIOUS. and the headboy reminds me so much of jonas for some reason, don't ask me why. ed and damian from the previous volumes DO show up, but it's so minor you wouldn't even notice it if you haven't read vol 1-3. albert was a fucking asswipe 95% of the book, but you know how misao roll. MAKING ASSHOLES INTO KNIGHTS WITH SHINY ARMOR. albert it now, super cute. like. he's so... look, just read this to the end okay. you'll think "omfg he's actually pretty adorable" and some shit. it'll happen, wait for it....

this story is essentially about sacrifice. the sacrifices both keito and stan had to make and the results (or lack thereof) because of it. this book is sooooooooooo good. when you read it, the plot itself may seem simplistic, but so much was happening ALL THE TIME, it was. insane. no rape aside from the past, thank god. seme always there to save the day (so if that's not your thing, well, tough), and keito is an amazing uke i love hiiiiim he's so so so djfldkjsfkld;; this was incredibly well-written. the imagery was fantastic. and if your familiar with misao's ero writing, haha yeah, then you know for sure you won't be disappointed :)

GOD I LOVE THESE CHARACTERS. i need more stan and keito, imma die. if you read public school or not, DEFINITELY 100% READ THIS, OK??? the story itself was fab, charas were memorable, and i would totes re-read this again. k bye lol
