Welcome back to the Hidden Hand Case files where hell is a frighteningly real dimension just across portals dubbed "hell gates" and you really don't want to know what is on the other side! Craig and his team manages to stop one incursion - but have no idea what else made it across, much less the true evil they are facing. I think one of the most horrific things about the mayhem and destruction that follows in Sirena's wake is that she isn't instigating any of it, merely removing inhibitions to what already lies in the souls of those she touches.

Complex storytelling that jumps between various locations and characters to tell the next chapter in this story. Fast paced, visual storytelling that will keep you glued to the page needing to know what happens next. It does get gruesome at times but imo the psychological horrors are far worse than the violence. And like with Deville's other books, it is sometimes hard to tell which side is the "good" guys as the measures used by the "good" guys to stop the impending doomsday can get really grim. It is said there is only the tiniest difference between the psychopath and the detective that stops them.

Craig, Lucy and Stuart continue to try and keep the Hellgates from opening. They all have certain obligations that the Hidden Hand needs done but they all encounter obstacles. Craig is captured by Ivanka and was being interrogated to get information. But Lucy and Stuart are willing to risk everything to rescue him with the help of the Cleaners. Sirena finding out what she can do spreads chaos all around. She infects the minds of people by taking their essence and causing them to do the unthinkable. Lots of secrets and hidden agenda. Very intense and gory at times.

Great book

This is one book I could not put down. It was so full of action and suspense that it kept me right on the edge of my seat. Such a great great cast of characters that I felt I knew each and every one personally. It scares a person to think the world would end in that way. Really good double book set. I recommend reading this to all that love to read of fictional apocalypse.

Just keeps giving more and more. Have to credit the author - the plot and depth must take some time to get right let alone deliver it this way. If you haven't do check his work out.
