This was a discard from our public library since its from 2000s. But it was actually very relevant and my 8 year old loved it. It was not all happy ending but more real life and deep questioning. There was a lot of pet care info in the back and the book contained a lot of medical information. It was a great fiction but for non fiction readers. Honestly the only draw back was not was too short, we will be looking for others in the series.
A Hit and Run Retriever by Emily Costello shows a relationship with a girl and her love of animals. A young girl named Stella is always late to her classes due to the fact that she goes to the vet office every morning three times a week. Stella has saved a lot of animals. One example is that when a turtle was hit by a truck and she seen that it was injured she would bring the animal to her aunt Anya which is the vet. The most dramatic time of seeing an animal injured was when Stella was going to the vet office and noticed a retriever that has been hit by a car. Stella had to pick up the dog from the highway and walked all the way across the highway through the neighborhood and to the vets office. Stella almost missed her whole school day but she cares more about the animals than anyone else.
The things I liked about the book was how it shows how much one person actually cares about the animals who are in need. A few things that I didn’t like about this book was that the book always stayed on one subject and doesn’t focus on another subject besides animals.
